The new Lego Harry Potter set is a very Christmassy looking Hogsmeade
Some of the bigger Lego sets aimed at adults might seem very expensive, but in most cases they're intended to be birthday or Christmas presents, or at least for some sort of special occasion. The latest Harry Potter Collectors' Edition isn't cheap, but it would make the perfect Christmas gift – not least because it already looks the part.
The Collectors' Editions are special giant-sized sets which recreate famous scenes or characters in more detail than cheaper ones aimed at kids. Sets like Gringotts Wizarding Bank and the Hogwarts Express might not be impulse purchases but they're the crème de le crème of Harry Potter Lego.
This new set includes seven buildings, looking just as they appeared in the films, and all covered in snow; that includes the first ever Lego version of Zonko's Joke Shop and the Hog's Head pub. On top of that is a massive haul of 12 different minifigures, including some more obscure characters.
Included amongst the minifigures are Harry, Ron, and Hermione – obviously – but also Professor McGonagall, Aberforth Dumbledore, Katie Bell, Draco Malfoy, Cornelius Fudge, Horace Slughorn, Madam Rosmerta, and Mrs Flume.
Each of the seven buildings are grouped into three sections, and includes the Honeydukes sweet shop, the Owl Post, The Three Broomsticks pub, Dervish and Banges, and Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop.
The buildings all have authentic-looking interiors, with details like exploding bon bons and sneakoscopes, as well as a portrait of Ariana Dumbledore that opens to a hidden passage.
Since everything is built to the same scale as Gringotts Wizarding Bank and Diagon Alley you can combine them all for the ultimate, brick-built Harry Potter display.
As for the price, it's £349.99 in the UK, from Lego stores and the Lego website. It will be available from September 4, or September 1 if you're part of Lego Insiders Early Access – which only requires a free sign-up. More Trending
As an extra incentive to sign-up there are a total of three different free gifts available on Back to Hogwarts Day, which if it's not on your calendar already is September 1.
The gift with purchase sets include Harry Potter Quidditch Lesson, which recreates the scene where Harry first learnt about Quidditch in the Philosopher's Stone and is free with any Harry Potter purchase over £35.
If you spend over £115 on Lego Harry Potter sets then you get the Hogwarts Castle: Room of Requirement, which is made up of 202 pieces and fits together with the other Hogwarts Castle sets – although this is the only way to get it and it won't be sold in shops.
Finally, if you buy the Hogsmeade set (which is over £115, so automatically gets you the other two free sets as well) then you get a Hogsmeade Sign. This isn't made of Lego but is a metal ornament featuring the Lego Hogsmeade skyline and an arch from which hang signs for Honeydukes, The Three Broomsticks and The Hog's Head.

Expert makes bombshell Diana claim about Prince Harry and William's ongoing feud
Princess Diana would have been "a peacemaker" and ended the "cold war" between her two sons Prince William and Prince Harry, a royal biographer has claimed A royal biographer has suggested that Princess Diana would have played the role of a "peacemaker" amidst the ongoing feud between Prince William and Prince Harry. Andrew Morton, renowned for his documentation of the late Princess of Wales' life, claims that the continuing tension between Diana's sons is a "great loss for the monarchy", as he states that she would have 'put an end to the cold war' between the princes. Despite their lack of communication following years of public criticism from the Sussexes, both William and Harry continue to honour their late mother's legacy through various charitable endeavours, as they gear up to commemorate the 28th anniversary of Diana's death. This follows Prince Harry's recent admission that he still considers himself part of the Royal Family. When Princess Diana tragically passed away on August 31, 1997, William and Harry, then aged 15 and 12 respectively, were united in their sorrow. Fast forward to the present day, and the brothers couldn't be more distant, but Royal biographer Andrew Morton believes that Diana would have been instrumental in building bridges, reports the Mirror. Speaking to People, he said: "Diana always used to say she had two boys for a reason - the younger would be there to support the older in the lonely task as future King. There is no doubt Diana would have tried to act as a peacemaker between them. If she had been around, they would have worked things out in a different way." He added: "We all remember the days when Harry and William were joshing with one another, and it all seemed set for their relationship and the future - that Harry, as Diana always used to say, would be William's wingman. It's a great loss for the monarchy." Relations between William and Harry deteriorated in 2020 when Harry and wife Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties and moved to California. The divide only widened following the Sussexes' 2021 sit-down with Oprah Winfrey and Harry's 2023 tell-all book Spare, both of which took aim at senior members of 'the Firm'. According to Andrew Morton: "Things were said that sparked the initial rift, and it's never healed." Harry himself reflected this view during a BBC interview in May, stating: "Some members of my family will never forgive me." Harry has been vocal about his desire for reconciliation with his relatives. Speculation about a potential peace deal emerged last month when senior advisers to both Harry and King Charles were seen at a London meeting, though William's team were reportedly excluded from the gathering. Insiders have suggested that Harry's phone calls and texts to William have been ignored, with Robert Lacey, author of Battle of Brothers, explaining: "They both deeply believe that they're fighting for profound points of principle." Whilst a royal reunion remains elusive, countless supporters continue to wish for the brothers to make amends, with many believing it would honour Diana's memory. A source close to the Royal household expressed: "This is the sadness of it - they aren't supporting each other like they should be. That's what any mother would want - that they are there for each other." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!

Retro gaming expert's verdict on new 'surprisingly affordable' Lego Game Boy
Experts have reviewed the much-anticipated product ahead of its October release, and it is available to pre-order now. Retro game fans are champing at the bit to get their hands on the upcoming Lego Game Boy model building kit, which is currently available to pre-order on Amazon for £54.99. And ahead of its long-awaited release on October 1, experts in the field of old-school gaming have given their verdict on the product. LEGO have teamed up with Nintendo to bring fans the new building set for adults that holds an uncanny resemblance to the original Game Boy. And one expert at GamesRadar wrote that they 'can't get over how accurate' the Lego Game Boy is, drumming up yet more excitement for the upcoming product. The games reviewer was also impressed by the '"surprisingly affordable" £54.99 price tag. The Lego product, which is for adults only (18+), contains 421 pieces and measures over 5.5 inches (14cm) high, 3.5 inches (9cm) wide and 1 inch (3cm) deep- a near 1:1 ratio to the original console. The Lego Game Boy includes all the memorable features from the original console, including the +Control Pad, A and B Buttons, and SELECT and START, alongside other iconic Game Boy details, such as the contrast adjustment and volume dial. And the GamesRader experts were blown away by the Lego version's accuracy to the retro gaming device. They said: "As someone who spends a lot of time fixing old Game Boys, I was also concerned the Lego set would miss the mark. "In theory, recreating the portable console out of blocks should be a challenge since it's practically a grey brick, but the construction toy pioneers have created a model that's smashed my expectations in terms of detail." Those shopping for other Lego Nintendo products that are available now may opt for the Lego Super Mario Piranha Plant Set for £58 on Argos, or the Lego Super Mario Adventures with Interactive Mario for £45, also on Argos. But another show-stopping feature of the Lego console is that it comes with a cartridge slot that users can insert fake games into, which appear on the 'screen' of the console as if the real game was running. The reviewer said: "It's hard to get a proper sense of the lenticular effect from photos, but Lego's example shots already look impressively convincing. "Not only are the inserts the same color of green as the Game Boy's polarizing filter, but the lens helps it catch the light in the same way as the old non-backlit LCD." But while it may look ready to switch on and play, there are no light, sound or display play functions in the set. And although this expert is thrilled with the product, other gaming fans have taken to X to air out their grievances with the un-playable toy. One said: "That stinks. I would rather have a real Gameboy and play the real games." A second wrote on the social media platform: "So, it's not playable for that amount of money?" But other fans are looking forward to the set, with one saying: "Brilliant, I hope this becomes a whole series of portable console Lego sets!" The Lego Game Boy is available to pre-order on Amazon.
