Aug 15 South Africa (Fairview) form analysis
(1) THE ROARING ROCK has found one better on the day in both his local starts. He should beat those who have racing experience, but there is an interesting newcomer.
Trainer Gavin Smith tends to test his best newcomers over this particular course and distance, so watch the betting on Gimmethegreenlight gelding (3) ALL SYSTEMS GO.
(5) BUGLE makes his local debut and should improve and can contest the finish.
(7) THROW A PARTY needed the run first-up from a short let-up. Will come on from that and could have a say this time round.
Race 2 (1,400m)
(5) MORFELIHA showed improvement in her second start and brings Western Cape form to the table, so would not be a surprise winner.
(1) OLIVE OYL was threatening to win a race but dislodged her rider last time. Jockey Richard Fourie gets his first try on her and that could make all the difference.
(2) SECONDS OUT is capable of improvement and has a place chance.
(3) CALL ME CLARION has been a disappointment so far but could improve.
Race 3 (1,400m)
(4) WINTER EMERALDS did not show his best last time but was improving before that and would not be a surprise winner.
(3) GRAND ALLEGRO and (2) GOT THE FEVER have both been in consistent form of late and should be able to challenge for top honours.
(1) FRENCH FLAME makes his local debut and could score.
Race 4 (1,600m)
(1) GREENLIGHT LEGEND is three from three for trainer Alan Greeff. In all the wins, she had something in hand, so may well defy the handicapper yet again.
(4) RED WILLIAM represents trainer Sharon Kotzen - who is in good form - and will be a serious threat yet again.
(3) PEDRO has not shone of late but is a threat this course and distance.
(7) ONE GIANT LEAP and (10) ROCK OF FUTURA are unexposed and could be better than they are rated.
Race 5 (2,000m)
(6) BEER WITH THE BOYS will be having his first start for Smith after being transferred from Justin Snaith. He was not striding out when trying the Polytrack last time but had been threatening to win a race before that and is capable of winning a race of this nature.
(4) HENRY'S HEDGE is improving and will not go down easily this time around.
(3) GARDEN SUN finally shed his maiden status by winning convincingly over 2,400m at Fairview at his last start. No reason why he cannot give this another mighty shake-up.
Stable companions (2) ALADO'S PRIDE and (1) GEORGE HANDEL have not won for some time now but are capable of earning some money.
Race 6 (2,000m)
Visiting trainer Snaith sends out (2) KNOCKOUT for this race. She has not won this year but should fight it out.
(1) LADY SILVANO has been very game. She will relish the step-up to this trip.
(8) GREENLITEALLTHEWAY found the distance too sharp last time. She will be more competitive this time.
(7) FIRST WISH is suited by the course and distance and should be involved with the finish.
Race 7 (1,600m)
(2) MY BEST SHOT tried his luck in the Hollywoodbets Durban July and was not disgraced. He was unbeaten in five starts this year before that after having been gelded. He can bounce back to score.
(4) ROYAL AUSSIE has run in better fields this year but may be better without blinkers.
(5) ZINOVI was full of running in his latest win and could be better than his rating.
(3) BINGWA did too much too soon last time and could be a threat on best form.
Race 8 (1,200m)
A very competitive last race to finish off the day.
(7) SYMBOL OF LOVE may have just needed her last run when tiring very late. Fitter this time, she may well keep rolling.
(1) CLIFF TOP has won a couple of times over this course and distance and is not out of it.
(5) GIMME'S LADDIE and (3) MHLABENI are all capable of troubling the selection.

World champions Chelsea brought down to earth by Palace
Sign up now: Get ST's newsletters delivered to your inbox LONDON - A huge banner hailing the "Champions of the World" was unfurled in The Shed end of the Stamford Bridge stadium before Chelsea's return to domestic action on Sunday hot on the heels of the club's success at the Club World Cup last month. But by the end of the 0-0 draw at home to Crystal Palace, Chelsea fans had no doubts about the differences between playing in a summer tournament and the rigours of the Premier League, even with the addition of yet more high-profile signings. Chelsea were fortunate not to have gone behind in the 13th minute when Eberechi Eze hammered home a free-kick for the visitors, only for his effort to be overruled on a technicality due to the position of a teammate in the defensive wall. The Blues' Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens failed to have much impact on their league debuts and it was stand-in 19-year-old defender Josh Acheampong - selected to play in the centre of the back line - who caught the eye. After the excitement generated by Chelsea's 3-0 drubbing of European champions Paris St Germain in the Club World Cup final on July 13, and pre-season wins over Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan, Sunday's stalemate was frustrating for the home fans. Their chorus of "We've won it all" faded as Chelsea struggled to pierce Palace's defensive lines and there was an air of resignation as the final whistle approached. Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca can take some positives from the performance of his young side against last season's FA Cup winners, including the impact of Brazilian winger Estevao who injected urgency and pace after he came on in the 54th minute. Maresca praised Estevao for showing personality and said: "He will be a very important player for this club." The Italian manager played down suggestions Chelsea's preparations for the new season were too short due to the club competing in the United States until mid-July. "I don't think so because until the end we competed, we tried to win the game," he told reporters. Woakes may opt for rehab over surgery in race to be fit for Ashes
England all-rounder Chris Woakes said rehabilitation is a risk he is willing to take to be fit for the Ashes rather than undergoing surgery on the shoulder injury he sustained during last week's fifth test loss to India. The 36-year-old Woakes is awaiting scan results after suffering a suspected dislocated shoulder on the opening day of the see-saw test at The Oval when he landed awkwardly trying to save a boundary. Judging by the extent of the damage his options would be either surgery or rehabilitation to strengthen the shoulder. The first Ashes test begins in Perth on November 21. "I suppose... there will be a chance of a re-occurrence, but that could be a risk that you're just willing to take," Woakes told BBC Sport on Friday. "From what I've heard from physios and specialists is that the rehab of a surgery option would be closer to three to four months. That's obviously touching on the Ashes and Australia so it makes it tricky. "From a rehab point of view you can probably get it strong again within eight weeks. So that could be an option, but again obviously still waiting to get the full report on it." Although ruled out of the remainder of the fifth test, he returned to bat on the final morning with his left arm strapped in a sling as England pushed for a series win. Woakes entered at number 11 with 17 runs still needed, he did not face a ball but ran four before Gus Atkinson was bowled, leaving India to seal a six-run victory to level the series 2-2 on Monday. Woakes received praise for his bravery, though he downplayed it by saying anyone else in the dressing room would have done the same. "In my eyes it was just business as usual... in that moment it was to go out there and try and find a way with Gus at the other end to try and get us over the line," he added.
