"Families should be traveling": Cheteshwar Pujara Puts BCCI's Diktat Under The Scanner Again
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) diktat on having restricted access of family members to team hotel during Tour has been widely criticised. After the Australia Tour, where India lost 1-3, the BCCI released released a 10-point guideline restricted the time families were allowed to spend with the players during any foreign tour. However, recently, Virat Kohli has expressed his disappointment and stressed on the importance of players having their loved ones close to them during high-pressure situations - particularly during overseas tours.
Cheteshwar Pujara also supports Kohli in this regard.
"I would say that families should be traveling. They should be with the players, the window. I mean, there are times where the families are there throughout the series. You as a player, you know, professionally, you want to be attending your practice sessions. So there has to be a window," Pujara said on Firstpost.
"Normally what most of the teams do is they have a window of two or three weeks in a long tour. So if you are going away from home for 40 days, there are three weeks where families can travel. So that's the best way to balance it out, because there are times where coaching staff or the management feels that if the families are traveling, then players are not focused enough, which may not be the case," he added.
"But just to balance it out, I think if you have a proper window where families can travel and at the same time, if you are going there early for preparation, then players are just focusing on the preparation part. And then when it starts you have to three weeks window where families can travel," Pujara said.
During the recently-concluded Champions Trophy, players like Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami had their families with them in Dubai but did not stay at the team hotel. The expenses for their stay were borne by the players, not the BCCI.

Mitchell Starc Breaks Silence On Not Returning For IPL 2025 After Indo-Pak Conflict
Australia and Delhi Capitals pacer Mitchell Starc was one of the few overseas players who decided against returning to India after the Indo-Pak conflict on the border. The battle between India and Pakistan prompted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to suspend the Indian Premier League (IPL) for a few days, giving overseas stars the opportunity to return to their respective homes. While most of the players returned to join their franchises as the T20 league resumed, Starc decided against it. The Australian pacer, who was pivotal to DC's strong show in the first half of the campaign, said that he had no problems with the stance he too (to not return to India for the remainder of the campaign". "I'm comfortable with my decision and how I felt about the whole situation and how it was handled. That's why I made my decision post-that, and my focus changed to red-ball cricket for about a week prior to coming over here. Time will tell with repercussions or how it looks with guys that didn't return. But I've had my questions and concerns leading into that game, and obviously, we saw what happened, which played a part in my decision," said Starc. Starc also revealed that World Test Championship final preparations with Australia was also a factor behind his decision. "There was a little bit of that to my decision around the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. And then once the tournament was delayed you start to think about guys' preparation for the Test match," he added. However, it is also to be understood that Starc's Australia teammate Josh Hazlewood, who is also a part of the WTC final squad, decided to return to India and play the remaining campaign for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who went on to win the tournament. "Things were handled differently for different players and different teams, the guys up in Dharamsala, the Punjab guys were part of that, and while both teams had similar experiences up there, all those guys returned for Punjab, and Jake Fraser-McGurk and I chose not to. So it was a very individual decision, and I'm happy to live with whatever comes of that," said Starc. Starc has continued to pledge his loyalty to the Delhi Capitals. "I'm still heavily committed to the Delhi group, and I'm not someone that's gone into tournaments and pulled out after being picked up in an auction or whatever that looks like. These are different circumstances," said Starc. "It was more a question of not having enough information leading into making a decision about things of that degree. I had a discussion back home, then came to a decision, and whatever comes from that, I'm comfortable with that, and we move forward," he added.

"What Was RCB Manager's Fault?" Mohandas Pai On Arrests Over Stampede
Bengaluru: The suspension of former Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda and the arrest of four people in connection with the Chinnaswamy stadium stampede have sent the wrong message and "demoralised" the entire state's police top brass, Aarin Capital Chairman Mohandas Pai said on Friday. The former Infosys Chief Financial Officer also said the registration of a "kangaroo" First Information Report (FIR) and action against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) without an in depth inquiry is "premature" and appears to be an attempt to deviate from key questions pertaining to the stampede. He made the remarks during an exclusive chat with NDTV on the incident that killed 11 people and injured more than 50 people on Wednesday. The stampede outside the stadium took place when a large number of people thronged to participate in the celebrations for the RCB's first-ever victory in the Indian Premier League. "The government has sent the wrong message by suspending the commissioner of police. Take action against the local cops. These issues are handled by people down the line," he said. "Can you blame the lower-level police who were responsible for the area, yes, of course. Can you blame the police commissioner? I don't think so. You are demoralising the entire top police command," he added. "We Are Devastated But Have To Be Reasonable" Mr Pai also slammed the arrests made in the case. "The arrest is premature and wrong. Arresting all these people sends the wrong message. What has the marketing manager of RCB done, except be in RCB?" he said. "We have to be reasonable. All of us are devastated. If the inquiry says the RCB is at fault, then file the FIR. This is a Kangaroo FIR," he added. RCB marketing head Nikhil Sosale was among four people who were arrested earlier in the day. He was on his way to Mumbai when he was arrested from Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, at around 6.30am. Sources said Mr Sosale oversees all promotional activities of the RCB and is the main link between the players and the franchise. He also handles the team's social media handles. "Not A Natural Crowd" Mr Pai questioned the police's alleged mismanagement and lack of basic facilities for the crowd. "All these things are diverting attention from the real issue. The real issue is how did three lakh people show up? Can the people arrive in 10 minutes? The people would have come four hours before. The police would have estimated. This was not a natural crowd. There is a protocol for managing the crowd. Whenever an accident happens on the highway, will you go arrest the cops?" he said. There was no medical aid available at the site of the stampede, he said. "There were no ambulances. We saw people carrying the victims. Where were the ambulances? Where was the first aid treatment? Lives could have been saved. "Virat Kohli, Team Should Have Shown Concern" The Aarin Capital Chairman, however, said RCB's "behaviour wasn't good". "Virat Kohli and the players should have come together, instead of saying we will pay a part of the bonus, etc. Kohli has been a captain for many years. He and his team have sent a message that we do not care for the fans," he said. "The RCB owners should have shown some concern. But legally, you cannot blame Kohli and his team. They aren't responsible," he added. The RCB has announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the 11 victims. Mr Kohli, in a post on Instagram, said he was left "gutted" by what transpired outside the stadium. Bid To Politicise Stampede? Mr Pai also sought to know if it was a concerted move to politicise the stampede. Asked if there is a blame-game within the Congress, he said: "Well, I think it could be there. The Opposition is trying to do that. The government is fighting that. How did three lakh people come? Who mobilised them? You must ask people on the ground, who called them, were they carrying any political banners, etc?" He also asked how did the crowd manage to enter the Vidhan Soudha, where separate celebrations were held. "How did they come in such a short period of time? How did they go inside the Vidhan Soudha? An ordinary person cannot. Who took them there," he said. On Thursday, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor termed the stampede "tragic" and said "we will have to develop different approaches to control and management." The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded the resignations of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy, D K Shivakumar over the stampede.

Footwear strewn near one of the gates to Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday. 'This incident occurred because appropriate arrangements were not made for the fans to enter the stadium. The announcement by the RCB on their official website that free passes would be distributed at the gates for the public is the reason for the gathering of lakhs of people. It was difficult to avert the incident. The police had deputed sufficient officers and cops, initiated all required security measures, and thereby averted a much larger tragedy,' the FIR stated. The FIR clarified that the officers of the Cubbon Park Sub-Division were deputed to duty until 5.30 am on June 4 (the morning after RCB's title win). The FIR states: 'At 6 p.m. on June 3, Shubendu Ghosh, the Chief Executive Officer of the KSCA, submitted a memorandum to the Police Inspector seeking arrangements for security measures for the victory celebrations at the stadium on June 4. The inspector told him clearly that if RCB wins, the fans will celebrate all night, and security arrangements will have to be made for that. If the KSCA organises another programme the next day, there will be disruption. ' The FIR further stated that RCB, KSCA, and DNA managements, by not providing correct information on passes and free entry to people and fans, created confusion among lakhs of fans that reached the stadium, resulting in pushing and chaos. Following this, a stampede occurred at gate numbers 2, 2A, 6, 7, 15, 17, 18, and 21. Child faints outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium as a massive crowd gathers to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL 2025 victory 'The Police Inspector told him that time was needed to arrange security measures, and permission was therefore denied for victory celebrations. "Afterwards, senior officers prepared security measures and sought permission from the Bengaluru Police Commissioner. Police personnel were immediately brought in from all police stations of Bengaluru city, and security was also arranged at the Vidhana Soudha programme to felicitate players,' the FIR mentions. To manage the crowd, additional staff was brought in from the Police Training Centre and Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP).
