Sibu to host Honor of Kings Inter-School Esports Tournament this May 17-18

SIBU (May 3): The Honor of Kings Inter-School Esports Tournament, to be held on May 17 and 18 at Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI) here, is expected to gather around 200 participants, including players, students, and e-sports enthusiasts.
In a press release, MPI announced that out of the total, 80 gamers forming 16 teams will compete for the championship title and grand prize.
The tournament will run from 8.30am to 4pm on May 17, and from 9am to 12 noon on May 18.
Sibu Member of Parliament Oscar Ling is scheduled to officiate at the event.
'The event aims to bring together talented secondary school students from across the Sibu Division to engage and compete in one of the fastest-growing digital arenas,' said MPI.
'It also seeks to educate youths on cultivating a positive gaming mindset and avoiding addiction,' it added.
Beyond competition, the programme introduces students to the broader esports ecosystem, including potential career opportunities and business prospects within the industry.
The event is organised by MPI, with support from the Sibu Division Esports Association and the Sibu Education Office.
Secondary school students are invited to attend and watch the matches.

Kota Kinabalu: The setting up of a recreation and welfare club for former Sabah sepak takraw players has received the support of former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said. The call was made by Abdullah Hj Majid, who was the organising chairman of a reunion dinner (Majlis Reunion Legend-Legend Sepaktakraw Sabah) for former State players held here in Asia City on Tuesday. He said the aim of the club is to appreciate the contributions of all the players who have worn the Sabah jersey and brought glory to the state of Sabah and also to the country. Salleh, who was the guest of honour, has given his blessing for the club to be established so that the welfare of the players will be taken care of, especially during hard times. Abdullah added that they are planning to publish a 'Sabah Sepak Takraw Legend' magazine where the biodata of players from the 70s, 80s, 90s will be featured along with photographs involving them competing for the state and country. SIPITANG: A total of 17 teams competed in a lively closed and invitational volleyball tournament held at Kampung Kaban on Saturday. The tournament organised by the Sipitang Warisan Coordinating Body in collaboration with the Kaban Village Youth featured nine men's teams and eight women's teams. Majlis Daerah Beaufort (MDB) clinched the men's championship title and RM500 in prize money. The runners-up position went to team Kelangsat, who took home RM300, while third place was shared between Bare-bare and AVC, each receiving RM200. In the women's category, team Lubak emerged victorious and bagged RM500, followed by AL'S in second place with RM300. Ulun Taka and Velocity VT tied for third place and earned RM200 each. The participating teams in the men's division included Kelangsat, GAB'S, AVC, Ulun Taka, Lembaga Industri Getah Sabah (LIGS), Kaban, MDB, Bare-bare, and Konco. Meanwhile, the women's division featured Velocity VT, Mix Team, Kaban, VL's, Saga Beaufort, S25, Lubak, and Ulun Taka.
