South Methodist crowned Sibu inter-school e-sports champs

SIBU (May 20): The South Methodist team from SMK Methodist emerged the champions of the 2025 Sibu Inter-school 'Honor of Kings' E-Sports Tournament at Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI) here last Sunday. Team A from Wong Nai Siong Secondary School took second place, while the No Business team from the Catholic High School and the Sibu All-Star of the Citizens Middle School placed third and fourth, respectively. Meanwhile, Yew Zhu Yin from SMK Methodist was named the tournament's 'Most Valuable Player' (MVP). The two-day event, which kicked off on Saturday, was organised by MPI with support from Sibu E-sports Association (SDESA) and Human Resources Development Corp (HRD Corp). It gathered some 200 e-sports enthusiasts. In a press release issued yesterday, MPI said a total of 80 players from 16 teams competed for the championship title. 'The event meant to educate young people on approaching electronic games with a healthy mindset, rather than falling into addiction. 'It also introduced participants to the e-sports industry, highlighting potential career and business opportunities, while fostering teamwork, digital skills, strategic thinking, and healthy competition.' The MPI also said all school representatives and supporters wore school-branded attire neatly and respectfully. Sibu to host Honor of Kings Inter-School Esports Tournament this May 17-18

SIBU (May 3): The Honor of Kings Inter-School Esports Tournament, to be held on May 17 and 18 at Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI) here, is expected to gather around 200 participants, including players, students, and e-sports enthusiasts. In a press release, MPI announced that out of the total, 80 gamers forming 16 teams will compete for the championship title and grand prize. The tournament will run from 8.30am to 4pm on May 17, and from 9am to 12 noon on May 18. Sibu Member of Parliament Oscar Ling is scheduled to officiate at the event. 'The event aims to bring together talented secondary school students from across the Sibu Division to engage and compete in one of the fastest-growing digital arenas,' said MPI. 'It also seeks to educate youths on cultivating a positive gaming mindset and avoiding addiction,' it added. Beyond competition, the programme introduces students to the broader esports ecosystem, including potential career opportunities and business prospects within the industry. The event is organised by MPI, with support from the Sibu Division Esports Association and the Sibu Education Office. Secondary school students are invited to attend and watch the matches.
