Oasis fan successfully sneaks into Heaton Park gig after hatching truly genius plan

Daily Mirror2 days ago
A ticketless Oasis fan has claimed he snuck into the band's sold-out Manchester reunion gig and walked through security unnoticed before making it to the front of the crowd
One Oasis fan who couldn't get a ticket for the band's massive Manchester reunion concert claims he successfully faked his way into the event by dressing as a litter picker.

The Britpop legends performed at Heaton Park over the weekend, their first time back on a Manchester stage in 16 years. With 80,000 fans in attendance and tickets sold out well in advance, many were left outside the gates. While some fans camped behind barriers just to hear the music, others attempted to breach the venue by more creative means.

John Spilsbury, a 42-year-old transport planner from Alfreton, Cheshire, says he used a far more subtle approach.

Donning a yellow hi-vis vest and armed with a bin bag and rubbish grabber, he walked confidently through the gates. 'No ticket, no problem,' he wrote in a social media post alongside photos of himself in disguise and later enjoying the gig.
'When you can't get a ticket for Oasis, so take a hi-viz and grabber and pretend to be a litter picker then walk straight into front standing," he added.

According to John, security didn't even try to stop him as he claims he even spent about '30 minutes' picking up litter inside the venue before blending into the crowd near the front of the stage. Once the show began, he removed his gear and joined the party to belt out the iconic lyrics to songs including WonderWall and Don't Look Back In Anger.
Fans online were quick to praise his cheeky tactic as some called him a 'legend' and a 'genius', while others joked about the next concerts being overrun with fake cleaners. 'There'll be 6,000 litter pickers at the next gig,' one person wrote. 'Wembley's going to be spotless,' added another.
While John's stunt was lighthearted, security at the reunion weekend faced more serious challenges.

On Friday, as many as 50 fans reportedly turned up with a ladder in an attempt to climb the perimeter fence. On Saturday, large groups were seen rushing the gates as Liam and Noel Gallagher took the stage shortly after 8 p.m.
Three more Oasis shows are set to take place at Heaton Park this week, on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday, before the band continues the reunion tour with five major shows at Wembley Stadium in London.

Given how high demand has been, and the lengths fans are willing to go, organisers may be facing a fresh security headache ahead of the next dates.
The Mirror has approached Manchester City Council, which operates Heaton Park, for comment on this story.

Oasis superfan saw £700 'essentially spent on thin air' after years waiting for reunion

Nevile Root and his girlfriend forked out the cash to see the Gallagher brother peform this week. An Oasis fan who waited for the band to reunite for years has said the £700 he splurged on tickets for the gig was 'essentially spent on thin air'. ‌ Nevile Root, 20, was due to see the Gallagher brothers on their third night at Heaton Park on Wednesday (July 16) along with his girlfriend. ‌ He has seen Noel and Liam individually multiple times over the years and said 'money was no object' when it came to the rare chance to see the pair perform together for the first time in years, reports the Manchester Evening News.. ‌ However, the excitement quickly came crashing down when he was told the two tickets he had bought, through re-sale website Twickets, had actually been sold to another customer seven months ago through the resale option on Ticketmaster. The couple had booked the day off work and were excited about travelling down to Manchester from Preston for the gig but they received the news on the morning of the show, leaving them with no other option but than to miss it and request a refund. With booking fees, they paid £724. The original seller, based in Australia, bought the ticket before the band announced their additional world tour dates, which include performances in Sydney and Melbourne later this year. Nevile said: "Having looked forward to a potential reunion for many years, I was desperate to get hold of two tickets. I've seen Liam and Noel's solo projects several times so was dismayed that I'd missed out on both the presale opportunity and also tickets in the general sale. "I persevered and followed the guidance to use the only 'official' resale site, Twickets. I was made up when I managed to secure two tickets in early January to see them in Heaton Park. ‌ "For me, this was the one gig where money was no object. But over £700 is a whole month's rent. It's more money than most 20-year-olds can spare on gig tickets, but I didn't want to miss the opportunity. "I emailed back and forth with the seller, a man from Australia, who had bought the Manchester tickets prior to the announcement of the Australian leg of the tour. No alarm bells rang, and he forwarded me all the confirmation emails from the original ticket purchase." After number of months passed, Neville got back in touch with the original seller of the tickets, who told him that they could not be transferred over within the Ticketmaster app until closer to the time. The transfers are usually carried out between 48 and 24 hours of the gig. ‌ It was not until the morning of Wednesday's show that the seller informed Neville that the tickets were showing as 'sold' within the Ticketmaster app, meaning he had listed the two tickets on both resale sites - which is directly against the Twickets' seller policy. A response from Twickets said: "I am sorry to hear what has happened. If the tickets appear as 'sold' in [the seller's] Ticketmaster account, than that would indicate that they have also listed and sold them on Ticketmaster resale, in contravention of the terms and conditions of our site unfortunately. "We therefore have no alternative but to withdraw the sale and issue you with a full refund, which should show on your card account in the next 2-3 working days." ‌ "The most frustrating thing now is just not being able to go," Neville added. "One one hand, I haven't lost out financially but its the fact that there isn't much safeguarding in place and that seller's can do this. "They had already been sold in January but I didn't find out until the day of the show. We are incredibly disappointed after making travel arrangements, booking annual leave and purchasing t-shirts in preparation for today only to be told the morning of the event that we wouldn't be able to go. "I feel as though we have been led down the garden path with having instruction to be patient and purchase resale tickets only to then to find these weren't legitimate to begin with. "I've essentially spent over £700 on thin air, and left with no chance of sorting it now because it's all so last minute. Had I have known months ago, I may have had a chance. This wasn't just like buying a ticket for a band who comes round every year, this was a big deal."

Oasis fans storm new fences at Heaton Park as they ignore security

Oasis fans didn't let their lack of tickets stop them from trying to see Liam and Noel Gallagher perform in their hometown as they stormed the fence at Heaton Park Some ticketless Oasis fans didn't let the security and new fences around Manchester's Heaton Park get in their way of seeing the Gallagher brothers as they stormed the barrier. Liam and Noel Gallagher returned to their hometown for their third show in front of 80,000 fans. ‌ Those unlucky in bagging some of the most in demand tickets in music history have managed to still catch a glimpse of the action from a nearby hill. During the shows in Manchester, fans have flocked to 'Gallagher Hill' to watch and listen to the iconic band perform. ‌ After hundreds gathered over the weekend, it seemed police and organisers wanted to crack down as a large fence appeared blocking the view. The large green fence and added security appeared to do little during last night's show, however. ‌ Some fans were spotted climbing over the massive fences as they ignored police warnings and attempted to get into the venue without a ticket. Others decided to stay put on Gallagher Hill despite the view being no more. Fans scaled trees in order to get a better look at the Britpop band, while others arrived with foldout chairs and picnic blankets. Over the weekend, police cracked down on ticketless fans in the area as some tried to hop the fence in order to see the Gallagher brothers. ‌ Get Oasis updates straight to your WhatsApp! Greater Manchester Police reported six people had been arrested for trying to get into the shows with "fake accreditation", while others had been caught trying to force their way through a perimeter fence. Oasis are set to play another two shows at Heaton Park on 19 and 20 July. Images taken at the scene showed one man in handcuffs as a member of Greater Manchester Police escorted him away, while another was carrying a ladder. ‌ Another image showed a line of police officers standing outside several entrances along the perimeter to stop people attempting to gain access for free. However, those watching from a distance on Gallagher Hill appeared to be having the time of their lives as they heard Liam and Noel reunite. ‌ Oasis: What's Their Story? He shared a video of fans enjoying the concert from outside the venue, alongside the caption: "No tickets needed," alongside red heart emojis. Greater Manchester Police have urged people without tickets not to travel to Heaton Park. The force added: "We would advise all fans travelling to and from the coming events to ensure they keep an eye out for information from our partners about transport options and road closures, allow enough time to get to the concert, keep hydrated and look out for each other."

This Morning star dealt crushing blow as new ITV series pushed back

Last year, it was announced that This Morning star Ben Shephard was going to be the face of a new reality game show called The Summit. This Morning: Ben Shephard cuts to break amid Johnny Vegas chaos It looks as though there's bad news for This Morning's Ben Shephard as his new series has reportedly been pushed back. Titled The Summit, the reality programme will see 14 strangers compete to win a share of £200,000 while climbing a mountain in New Zealand. Ben took a brief hiatus from his hosting role on This Morning at the end of last year while he was filming the series as he appeared via a live video link to explain his absence. Although The Summit was originally set to air in 2025, it seems as though the launch date has been pushed back to 2026. It's reported that the reason behind the delay is down to scheduling conflicts, according to TVZone. The Mirror has contacted ITV for comment. Sharing his excitement about the show in the past, Ben commented: "This series really has got it all; the contestants are going to be tested in every possible way as they try and take on the mountain. "They'll need a serious amount of grit, determination and strategy if they want to reach The Summit. Most people know how much I love exercise and adventure, but this is taking it to another level. "I'll be donning my mountain gear to check in with them as they battle up the mountain and do their best to combat the demands of the ominous Mountain's Keeper. I can't wait to see how they get on because anyone who reaches The Summit will have seriously earned every penny of the prize fund." ITV Director of Reality Commissioning and Acquisitions Paul Mortimer teased that The Summit will have viewers gripped with 'nail-biting' scenes. He said: "Not only is this a huge and complex endurance test for the contestants, overseen by the wonderful Ben Shephard, it's going to be an absolute nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat watch for viewers at home. "Filled with cliffhangers, shocks, twists and turns, it's going to keep people guessing from the very first step of the trek to that final summit." Ben is set to be absent from TV screens over the next few weeks as the ITV star is taking a break from This Morning for the summer. Both Ben and Cat are expected to return once again in September with a plethora of stars taking over. This Morning announced that viewers can expect to see the likes of Emma Willis, Rylan Clark, Sian Welby, Josie Gibson, Craig Doyle and Olivia Attwood front the show.
