Dave Hughes loses it as he rips Carlton AFL team to shreds in wild TV outburst about poisonous mushrooms and machetes

Daily Mail3 hours ago

Comedian Dave Hughes has launched a blistering and hilarious attack on his favourite AFL team in a wild appearance on Channel Seven on Wednesday night.
The 54-year-old couldn't restrain his anger over the recent performances of his club, Carlton, as they struggle through yet another poor season and reel from last weekend's loss to North Melbourne.
Hughes even referenced the murder trial of Erin Patterson, who stands accused of poisoning three people to death by feeding them deadly mushrooms, as he tore strips off the Blues on The Front Bar.
'I can't do it anymore, it's no good for my health. Every weekend from now I'm going to go to the Wonthaggi area and forage for mushrooms,' he said.
'I just think it's a healthier way. Cook them up and have a good time.'
When host Mick Molloy pointed out that the Blues have a lot of players out hurt, Hughes went off again.
'Have we? Well, they're deliberately getting injured. Soldiers who shoot themselves in the foot to get out of wars,' he replied.
'Mitch McGovern, he went to hospital in an ambulance at halftime and the hospital said, "There's nothing wrong with you, mate".
'That ambulance could've been used for people who've had heart attacks.'
Host Andrew Maher then played footage of Hughes leaving Carlton's shattering round-one loss to Richmond before the final siren, setting off another series of jokes, including one referencing Melbourne's crime crisis.
'We were premiership favourites that night playing against an under-12s side. We were 41 points up and we lost,' Hughes said.
'I left with 30 seconds to go, our team left at halftime.
'I walked home that night, I did, from the MCG to St Kilda, in the dark, on my own, true story.
'I was looking for guys with machetes, I couldn't find any.'
Hughes then moved on to referencing the Israel-Iran war.
'If Donald Trump is interested, let's get one of his stealth bombers. We fully insured at [Carlton's headquarters] Ikon Park?' he said.
The shattering loss to lowly North Melbourne last Saturday has led to furious fans - and Hawks and Swans great Buddy Franklin - calling for coach Michael Voss to be sacked.
'I'm going to put this out there, I know this is a big call, I don't think he sees out the year,' Franklin said on Monday's instalment of his podcast, The Buddy & Shane Show.
'I think they've got a pretty good list, I do. I think the issue is the messaging is not getting through to the players.
'I think there needs to be change and we've said it before, we're all about the players and coaches, but I think this is a change that needs to happen, and it needs to happen ASAP.
'All of the Carlton supporters would probably say the same. I'm probably speaking on behalf of them.
'I think there needs to be a change and it'll probably happen in the next few weeks, is my tip.'

Footy fan reveals sneaky hack he and his mates used to get into AFL games for HALF PRICE

An avid footy fan has spilled the beans on a sneaky hack that he and his mates have used to get into matches for half price. A listener to the Kick It Forward podcast wrote in to the show this week to reveal how they save money when attending both NRL and AFL matches. 'With the recent revelation of kids' tickets no longer working at the footy, I've got to try and find other ways I can to save money,' wrote the listener. 'A few weeks ago, before North Melbourne versus Essendon, I figured that family passes, two adults and two kids, do not specify who the ticket is for on each of the individual tickets. 'Meaning four adults can go in separately and the ticket people shall be none the wiser - and if asked, [just say] you are meeting your wife and two kids. 'This family pass was the price of two adult tickets and got me, my brother and uncle into the game. 'Last week, this was tested again - Manly versus Brisbane at Brookvale Oval with no issue, we got in. 'This time I paid $25 each, instead of $40.' After a clip from the episode was posted onto social media, more than a few fans asked the podcasters to take it down. 'Thanks for ruining what the real ones have been doing since day 1. Delete this,' posted one user. 'Been doing this forever, way to ruin it,' replied another. 'Please delete this,' said a third. Earlier in the year, the AFL announced that it was freezing prices on general-admission tickets for matches at the MCG and Marvel Stadium. Tickets will stay at $27 for adults, $18 for concessions and $5 for juniors aged 14 and under. Children aged four and under will continue to get in free. The 'Family ticket' for two adults and two kids will also stay at $54. 2024 was the highest attended season on record with more than 7.7 million fans attending matches. 'The AFL is proud to continue to freeze prices for general admission and family tickets for the seventh consecutive year,' AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said. 'On any given weekend there could be 4-5 matches in Victoria, and we understand the cost-of-living pressures across every household and every business, which is why we are committed to ensuring as many people as possible can enjoy the excitement of our game firsthand. 'We have the best fans in the world, and with record breaking attendance figures last year and a great take up of tickets for next week's Indigenous All-Stars match in Perth, and next month's Opening Round and Gather Round matches, we're excited to see the return of full stadiums again in 2025.'

That's cheeky! Dina Broadhurst shows off her trim figure in tiny booty shorts as she goes shopping in Paddington

Dina Broadhurst left little to the imagination as she stepped out in Sydney on Sunday. The 'nude artist', 48, showed off her trim figure in tiny grey booty shorts as she went shopping in Paddington. The glamorous socialite completed her look with a matching coloured top and wore a pair of brown sneakers as she visited local stores. Dina left her long brunette locks out and appeared to be make-up free as she glanced at her phone during the outing. She held an Acne Studios shopping bag as she walked to her car after visiting the store. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The sighting comes after Dina was spotted reconnecting with her ex-boyfriend Tony Benjamin during a low-key meet-up in Bondi last week. The pair, who made headlines in 2023 when their steamy romance came to light, appeared relaxed and at ease as they enjoyed coffee and conversation in the sun. They then hit Body by Berner for a Pilates session. At one point, the former couple were seen sharing a hearty laugh, with Dina beaming as she leaned across the table. Later, they left the café together and appeared deep in conversation. Their public reunion is sure to raise eyebrows among fans who remember their tumultuous history. Dina and Tony were first linked in early 2023, with the pair quickly becoming fixtures on Sydney's social scene. However, their whirlwind romance took a dramatic turn just months later when it was revealed Tony had split from his wife Shannon Benjamin, following his relationship with the Bondi-based artist. The saga sparked a wave of headlines, with sources close to the couple claiming the relationship had 'fizzled out' just as quickly as it began. In August last year, Dina fuelled speculation of a new romance when she posted a steamy Instagram photo of herself sunbaking in a bikini while a mystery man – believed by some to be Tony – caressed her back. However, she kept mum about her relationship status, never confirming whether she had rekindled things with her former flame. The high-society beauty has been romantically linked to some of Sydney's richest and most powerful men, but Dina doesn't like to be tied down these days. Most recently, she was once again spotted cosying up to John Winning Jr., known to his friends as Herman. In a huge love life twist, the pair were recently spotted on a double date in Coogee with cricketer Michael Clarke and his girlfriend Arabella Sherborne, the exclusive details of which were revealed by Mail+. Their shock outing came after Dina was also romantically tied to her boy toy Kengi - a former Love Island star who is, at 23, less than half her age. The pair secretly linked up in Paris, with Dina doing her best to keep him hidden from the public eye. But after Daily Mail Australia revealed their secret tryst, she began sharing steamy snaps online from their five-star Parisian love nest. However, upon her return to Australia, Dina sought comfort in the arms of ex-boyfriend John Jr., sparking speculation about whether they were back together. Her fling with Kengi followed her blink-and-you'll-miss-it trip to Chile for some fun with John Jr., who seems to be her go-to on-again-off-again boyfriend. She and John Jr. originally began dating in March last year, but they broke up in early December on the morning of the wedding of Bernadette Fahey and Jordan Sukkar. The pair were both expected to attend the couple's Scots College wedding, but when Dina rocked up solo, the high-profile guests knew something was amiss. Sources revealed at the time Dina came to the realisation their lifestyles were not compatible after eight months together. John Jr. is the son of appliances mogul John Winning Sr. and his family is worth an estimated $700million.

Young Aussie business owner breaks down in tears in the Coles carpark after 'devastating' find on shelves: 'I'm just so upset'

An Australian entrepreneur has been left in tears after a trip to Coles left her feeling overlooked and overwhelmed in the competitive grooming and beauty market. Clara Momesso, the founder of boutique personal care brand S'haven Body, broke down in a video after discovering a product similar to her hero launch on supermarket shelves. The product? A pink whipped shaving foam packed with nourishing skincare ingredients - but for a quarter of the price. In an emotional video that's now racked up more than 2.1million views in 24hours, Clara admitted she felt 'really upset' at the discovery. Her tears streamed after seeing a mainstream version of the very concept she spent two years perfecting, appear under a well-known, much larger brand, just months after launching her own. 'I just found out that a very successful personal care brand is coming out with a product that is basically the same as mine,' she said. 'I literally opened my phone, and I saw this brand that's already in all the major supermarkets. They've released a pink shave gel and they're releasing it into Coles and I'm just really upset about it.' Although she's quick to clarify she doesn't believe the conglomerate copied her, Clara admitted the timing felt like a gut-punch after years of hard work and innovation. 'I worked really, really hard on developing a concept that was new that nobody else had done. That was kind of my ticket into retail,' she explained. 'I knew competition was going to come... but I'm just frustrated that they got there first, and I can't compete with them.' While the two products share a striking resemblance in their formulas - both boasting a pink hue, nourishing skincare ingredients, and a sweet scent - they're not identical. However, the price discrepancy Clara highlights has social media, and shoppers, firmly divided. Clara's Shaven Whipped Shaving Foam is a creamy, mousse-like formula enriched with hyaluronic acid and panthenol, designed to hydrate and cushion the skin during shaving. Retailing at $39.95 for 200g, it's positioned as a premium self-care indulgence, with luxe packaging and a strong focus on skin benefits. Gem's Skin-Loving Shaving Gel, on the other hand, is a $10 supermarket buy that 'transforms from a water-activated gel into a soft foam', according to the website. While it also includes moisturising ingredients like shea butter, aloe vera and vitamin E, it leans more into accessibility and convenience - with a slightly smaller 195g size and a more budget-friendly price point. And with Australia's cost of living showing no signs of slowing down, the price gap has sparked a heated debate among shoppers online. 'I'm all for women in business, however need to read the room, as in this climate (which is not the roaring 20's), $40 for shaving foam is out of taste. People are grabbing what is half price or on special,' one commented. 'I can relate to this and I'm proof that if someone is bringing out the 'same' product as you doesn't mean they're better than you… ps. We use and love your product x,' another added. The split reflects a growing tension in beauty retail right now - consumers are craving affordable everyday essentials, but also want to support homegrown innovation. In a statement to FEMAIL, Clara stressed her video was never meant to pit her brand against a major player or drag anyone down. 'They have a product that will serve a portion of the market and mine will serve a different portion of the market,' she said. 'They are two products that solve the same problem and are similar in some ways, but they are different. I know there is space for both brands. I was just sad at the time of seeing their announcement.' Ingredient face-off: What's actually different? Both formulas contain pink-tinted foam, moisturising agents and sweet scents, but Clara's version leans into premium ingredients like hyaluronic acid and panthenol for skin hydration, while Gem's opts for soothing aloe, vitamin E and shea butter. Price and accessibility, of course, are the biggest points of difference with Clara's priced at $39.95 available online only (with $10 postage added to each order), and Gem's $10 version, which is already stocked in Coles supermarkets nationwide. Still, Clara argued that her brand represents far more than just a beauty product, it's about vision, innovation and small business grit. 'I knew the competition was gunna' come, and it's a normal, healthy part of business, but I'm just frustrated that they got there first.' Well, in the theme of popular idiom's, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger, and clearly, not all good things come to those who wait.
