Coronation Street's Mick Michaelis star spotted in another TV show after 'real accent' confusion
Coronation Street star Joe Layton is currently breaking the TV divide as he's appearing in two shows at the same time.
Fans of the ITV soap will know that the actor arrived on the cobbles earlier this year as Mick Michaelis. The controversial character followed his wife, Lou, onto the street having been confirmed as the show's new "nightmare neighbours".
In February, they moved into Mawdsley Street at the back of Chesney and Gemma Winter-Brown's house, which is the first time ever Corrie have extended the serial drama across the ginnel in a history-making move.
They have been making their presence felt in Weatherfield since, but none more so than this week when Mick spiralled and lashed out at not just Lou in a horror domestic abuse attack, but also PC Craig Tinker as he tried to reprimand him for drink driving.
But fans have realised that they're not just seeing Mick in Corrie, as Joe currently has another role in the new BBC drama, The Bombing of Pan Am 103, which follows the untold story of the Scots-US investigation into the attack and the devastating effect it had on the small town of Lockerbie.
The six-part series is based on the true story of the bombing of a passenger flight over the small Scottish town of Lockerbie in 1988 and the quest to bring its perpetrators to justice. The series begins on BBC iPlayer and BBC One on Sunday, May 18, with new episodes premiering at 9pm every Sunday and Monday for three weeks.
Earlier this month, alongside a teaser for the series, Joe shared on Instagram: "Lots to look forward to in May. 'The Bombing of Pan Am 103' starts May 18th. Special job with a wonderful cast and crew."
Now, fans have put two and two together. Taking to a Corrie fan Facebook group, one shared a picture of Joe in the BBC drama and said: "I'm streaming this on iPlayer and I'm sure this is Mick. In this he's putting on an American accent as a concerned relative."
Elsewhere, @bradley915 asked: "#corrie Is "Mick" now on the Pan Am 103 thing now on BBC?" to which a fellow watcher replied: "Yep!"
And speaking of accents, Joe's own caused some surprise recently. The MEN shared last week how Corrie had taken to Instagram with a video in which they questioned Joe, Farrel Hegarty (Lou) and Jacob Roberts (Kit), as well as the trio of actors playing their young characters, on events of 2007, to coincide with their special flashback episode.
Alongside the video, a caption read: "How well do you remember 2007?! Join us in our throwback quiz ahead of tomorrow night's special 2007 flashback episode! Catch all the drama on ITV1 at 8pm or stream early on ITVX at 7am. (Link in bio!)."
But Corrie fans couldn't help but be taken aback by Mick's 'real voice' as Joe is very different to his on-screen alter-ego. @tracy.c70 said: "Did not expect Mick to have the accent that he does." @lovefromnav2005 commented: "Omg micks voice is so different."
@suewalm wrote: "Omg Mick sounds so different so nice not like his character as I think he's proper scary." @sergiaspl added: "Joe Layton's performance has been mesmerising during this storyline and to hear how he sounds off screen, is wild."

Netflix (NasdaqGS:NFLX) Enters Creative Partnership With India's Ekta Kapoor For New Series
Netflix recently announced a long-term creative collaboration with Telefilms Ltd., led by renowned Indian creator Ekta Kapoor, aimed at developing a variety of projects for streaming audiences. Over the last quarter, Netflix's stock price increased by 39%, significantly outperforming the broader market, which rose by 2%. The company's remarkable quarterly earnings with improved sales and profits likely contributed to this rise. Additionally, its ongoing share buyback program further bolstered investor confidence. While these developments supported its upward trajectory, Netflix's stock rise was in stark contrast to the relatively modest market increase, highlighting its exceptional performance. Buy, Hold or Sell Netflix? View our complete analysis and fair value estimate and you decide. Diversify your portfolio with solid dividend payers offering reliable income streams to weather potential market turbulence. Netflix's recent collaboration with Telefilms Ltd. could enhance its content portfolio, particularly by tapping into the growing Indian market. This agreement is likely to support Netflix's goal of expanding its global content strategy and potentially boost revenue and profit margins. Such initiatives might align with analysts' expectations of a 12% annual revenue growth over the next few years. Over the past three years, Netflix's total shareholder return was very large, underscoring its robust long-term performance. This period has seen significant outperformance relative to shorter-term gains when compared to the broader market's annual increase of 12.6% over the last year. In the same one-year period, Netflix's stock rose more than twice as much as the broader market, highlighting its impressive performance against industry benchmarks. The forecasted increase in ad revenue and gaming expansion could significantly drive future earnings, potentially increasing Netflix's earnings forecast from US$9.27 billion to as high as US$16.1 billion by 2028. However, these ambitious goals come amidst economic risks and competition, as highlighted in the narrative. Recent price movements see Netflix's stock trading at US$1137.69, with a modest 3.7% discount to the consensus price target of US$1096.58. This suggests that analysts, on average, consider Netflix fairly valued, factoring in the company's growth prospects and risks. Meghan Markle Shares Pics of Archie and Lilibet Experiencing 'Pure Joy' at Disneyland
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared to enjoy Disneyland almost as much as their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in a Reel posted to Instagram by the Duchess of Sussex on Friday. 'Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!' Meghan wrote in the caption of the adorable montage of the family's adventures. The whole group was at the amusement park for Lilibet's fourth birthday. Playing to Peggy Lee's song 'It's A Good Day,' the first clip showed a nervous Lilibet holding her mom's hand as she approached her hero, Elsa from Frozen. Lili was also gifted a Little Mermaid-themed birthday cake reading 'Happy Birthday Lili,' making it a day of Disney princesses for the royal one. The group could then be seen on various rides, including Tiana's Bayou Adventure, Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters, Space Mountain, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, and the King Arthur Carousel. Meghan shared a clip of just herself and Harry on the more demanding Rise of the Resistance, laughing and screaming together as they came down on the roller coaster. In a group shot, Meghan covered her kids' faces, but showed off her Minnie Mouse ears. Harry was kneeling by the two children and has his arm around Archie. Lili is barefoot and wearing a white dress covered in a colorful graphic bow pattern. Before the Disney party, Meghan celebrated Lili's fourth birthday with never-before-seen footage from the delivery room taken just ahead of her daughter's birth. In the clips, she and Harry are dancing together to help induce labor, because both Lili and Archie arrived past their due dates. 'Four years ago today, this also happened,' she wrote in the caption. 'Both of our children were a week past their due dates. So when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work—there was only one thing left to do! 😂.'
