ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has attended the 4th Make it in the Emirates Forum, taking place at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi from 19-22 May. The event is organised by ADNEC Group and hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) and ADNOC Group.
His Highness toured the accompanying exhibition, and visited the pavilions of several international, national and local participating companies and entities showcasing advanced‑technology solutions tailored to accelerate growth in key industrial sectors and reinforce the UAE's position as a regional and global hub for future-ready industries.

His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan underscored the UAE's commitment to developing industrial sectors as a cornerstone of sustainable development and a central pillar of economic diversification.His Highness emphasised the importance of increasing the industrial sector's contribution to GDP in line with the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology – Operation 300bn, and the Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy, aiming to further enhance the competitiveness of vital industries and build an innovative, knowledge‑based and transformative economy.The 4th Make it in the Emirates Forum continues to position the UAE as a leading hub for industrial excellence and innovation by showcasing the investment opportunities within the UAE's competitive industrial ecosystem and the incentives offered by the national economy to foster strategic partnerships across priority sectors.
During the visit, His Highness was accompanied by: His Excellency Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; His Excellency Faisal Abdulaziz Al Bannai, Adviser to the UAE President for Strategic Research and Advanced Technology Affairs; Her Excellency Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Head of the International Affairs Office at the Presidential Court; His Excellency Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development; His Excellency Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of the Crown Prince's Office at the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court; His Excellency Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC; and Syed Basar Shueb, CEO and Managing Director of International Holding Company (IHC).

14 Aug 2025 13:39 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD) The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the development of the Al Nouf Independent Power Producer (IPP) project, the largest single-site carbon-capture-ready Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plant in the Nouf will be located within the newly established Al Nouf Complex, a coastal site strategically designated to become a major hub for power and water production in the Emirate of Abu state-of-the-art plant is designed to deliver world-class efficiency, operational flexibility, and lower emissions, supporting the UAE's long-term decarbonisation Al Nouf Complex will play a pivotal role in the UAE's energy and water security, with the site carefully selected for its strategic coastal location and ability to accommodate both seawater-cooled power generation and reverse osmosis (RO) desalination technologies. Designed with long-term scalability in mind, the complex features ample space and infrastructure capacity to support multiple utility-scale energy and desalination projects in the integrated planning approach underscores EWEC's commitment to developing energy clusters that deliver synergies in performance, efficiency, and environmental is strategically accelerating the UAE's energy transition to a decarbonised system, with the advanced and efficient Al Nouf providing transitional capacity to support the integration of large-scale renewable energy and provide additional flexibility during periods of peak power demand. Flexible and high-efficiency gas-fired plants, such as Al Nouf, will be crucial for ensuring the security of supply while the country's energy sector transforms into a renewable and clean-focused part of the IPP programme, the project is expected to support Emiratisation targets by facilitating the inclusion of UAE Nationals across key roles, thereby supporting national workforce development Ali Alshamsi, Chief Executive Officer of EWEC, said, 'The development of Al Nouf power plant is a key component of EWEC's long-term strategy to deliver a flexible, efficient, and decarbonised energy system. As we accelerate the integration of renewable and clean energy into the grid, advanced natural gas-fired capacity will play an essential role in ensuring system reliability and balancing intermittency."Al Nouf's strategic location and high-efficiency design will enhance our ability to meet future demand while supporting the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative. We look forward to engaging with qualified developers and advancing this important project.'Al Nouf will closely follow the model of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi's successful IPP programme, where developers enter into a long-term agreement with EWEC as the sole will involve the development, financing, construction, operation, maintenance, and ownership of the plant, with the successful developer or developer consortium owning up to 40 per cent of the entity. The remaining equity will be held indirectly by the Abu Dhabi to begin commercial operations in Q3 2029, Al Nouf's efficient natural gas turbine technology will generate up to 3.3 gigawatts of RFP shared with bidders outlines comprehensive requirements and technical parameters, encouraging the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) where relevant to improve plant performance, operational efficiency, and predictive project is also expected to leverage state-of-the-art technologies, including digital twinning and advanced monitoring systems, to optimise lifecycle performance and system resilience. Responses to the RFP are expected in Q4 2025. To ensure efficient and timely project development following the award, EWEC has proactively reserved gas turbines for Al Nouf. Human Health and Social Work activities registered the highest growth rate, rising 26% compared to the same period last year. Real Estate activities grew by 7.8%, while Financial and Insurance activities expanded by 5.9%. Accommodation and Food Service activities recorded a 3.4% increase, and Transport and Storage rose by 2%.The GDP growth in the first quarter of this year marks a continuation of the strong performance achieved in 2024, when Dubai's economy expanded by 5.8% at current prices to reach Dh541 billion, and by 3.2% at constant prices, totalling Dh443 billion. This growth was driven by standout performances in trade, real estate, financial services, transport, and industry — sectors that collectively contributed nearly 78% of the total growth achieved during the Al Nasser, Chief Executive of the Dubai Data & Statistics Establishment, Digital Dubai, said: 'In an era defined by data and AI, reliable statistics are indispensable for understanding current trends and anticipating future developments. The Q1 2025 results reflect Dubai's economic progress, enabling policymakers, researchers, and businesses to make well-informed part of our mission at Dubai Data & Statistics Establishment, Digital Dubai, we remain focused on fostering integration with relevant entities to ensure that data serves stakeholders across all levels — supporting the overarching goals of the government and the forward-looking vision of our leadership.'Hadi Badri, CEO of Dubai Economic Development Corporation (DEDC), the economic development arm of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), said: 'At a time when businesses, investors, and entrepreneurs are seeking stability and certainty, Dubai's sustained and diversified economic growth continues to underscore its global appeal. Human Health and Social Work The human health and social work sector reached Dh1.9 billion in the first quarter of 2025, achieving a 26% growth compared to the previous year's first quarter. It accounted for 1.5% of Dubai's total GDP, contributing 0.3 percentage points to overall economic growth. Real Estate The real estate sector, a cornerstone of Dubai's economic structure, grew by 7.8% in Q1 2025, contributing 7.5% to the emirate's GDP, with a total value of Dh9 billion and driving economic growth by 0.6 percentage points. Finance and Insurance This sector achieved a real growth of 5.9% in Q1 2025 compared to the same period last year, reaching Dh16 billion, up from Dh15.12 billion in Q1 2024. It accounted for 13.4% of Dubai's economy and contributed 0.8 percentage points to overall growth. Accommodation and Food Services This sector recorded 3.4% growth, reaching Dh4.9 billion, contributing 4.1% to the GDP and driving growth by 0.14 percentage points. Information and Communications The Information and Telecommunication sector grew by 3.2%, with a total value of Dh5.3 billion, contributing 0.14 percentage points to economic growth and accounting for 4.4% of the emirate's GDP. Wholesale and Retail TradeThis sector contributed 23% to the economy, with a value of Dh27.5 billion, up from Dh26.3 billion in the same period in 2024, marking a 4.5% increase and boosting economic growth by 1.03 percentage points. Trade activity supports all other economic sectors by providing a wide variety of goods that serve multiple functions — whether as inputs, intermediates, final consumption products, or for capital formation purposes. ManufacturingThe Manufacturing sector grew by 3.3%, reaching Dh8.7 billion in Q1 2025 compared to Dh8.4 billion in the same period last year. It contributed 7.3% to GDP and 0.24 percentage points to economic growth. Transport and StorageThe Transport and Storage sector grew by 2% compared to the same period last year, reaching Dh15.7 billion, up from Dh15.4 billion in Q1 2024. It contributed 13% to Dubai's GDP and added 0.27 percentage points to growth. The sector encompasses all activities pertaining to land, water or air transport involving individuals, goods, handling and storage activities, and postal services. Air transport remains the largest contributor within this sector due to its high output. Other activities accounted for 26% of the GDP in the first quarter of 2025, recording a growth of 1.9% compared to the same period last year and contributing 0.5 percentage points to overall economic growth. The Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment is currently expanding the survey base and recalibrating the GDP time series, along with other economic indicators. This initiative is part of a broader transformation plan to adopt updated international classifications and implement global best practices, ensuring data outputs better serve the needs of users.
