Tsunami Waves Reach Japanese Coast After Massive 8.8 Earthquake Rocks Russia
Japan's meteorological agency warned against a powerful earthquake that hit near Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula and issued a tsunami advisory for Japan.
Japan on Wednesday reported that waves as high as 50cm (1.6 ft) were recorded at Ishinomaki Port, a major city in the Miyagi Prefecture on the east coast. The development came after the first tsunami waves measured 20cm to 40cm (0.6 to 1.3 ft).
Earlier in the day, an 8.8-magnitude earthquake hit off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, sparking tsunami warnings across the Pacific.

Tsunami Warnings Across Japan
Amid the ongoing scare of tsunami, Japan has issued evacuation warnings along a wide swathe of its Pacific coast – from Hokkaido in the north to Wakayama prefecture in the south.
The meteorological agency had warned that tsunami waves could reach up to 3 metres high.
Meanwhile, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the company which operates the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, has said that all workers have been evacuated. Notably, the power plant suffered a nuclear meltdown after being hit by a massive tsunami in 2011.
Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has said that a task force is in place to assess the situation, reiterating warnings for those in the affected areas.

Rains drench Delhi, air quality in city satisfactory
Agency: PTI New Delhi, Aug 3 (PTI) Heavy rains lashed the city on Sunday morning, leading to waterlogging in several areas, including Deoli, Panchkuian Road, Moti Bagh, ITO, Mukherjee Nagar and Pul Prahladpur. Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 24.2 degrees Celsius, 2.9 notches below the season's average, according to IMD. The IMD has forecast moderate rain, with the maximum temperature expected to settle around 32 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity was recorded at 70 per cent at 8:30 am. The air quality was recorded in the satisfactory category at 9 am, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 78, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed. According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'. Small quake shakes New York area
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Hasbrouck Heights (US), Aug 3 (AP) A small earthquake rattled the New York metropolitan area Saturday night. The US Geological Survey said the tremor had a magnitude of 3.0. It hit in the New Jersey suburb of Hasbrouck Heights, less than 8 miles (13 kilometers) west of Central Park, at a depth of about 6.2 miles (10 kilometers). Hurricane Gil forms in eastern Pacific but not forecast to threaten land
Agency: Mexico City, Aug 2 (AP) Tropical Storm Gil strengthened into a hurricane in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Friday but was not expected to threaten land, forecasters said. The Miami-based US National Hurricane Center said the storm was about 1,080 miles (1,740 kilometers) west-southwest of the Baja California peninsula of Mexico. Gil had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph (120 kph) and was moving west-northwest at 20 mph (31 kph). No coastal watches or warnings were in effect. The storm was expected to keep traveling to the west-northwest in the coming days. Gil was strengthening during a busy period for storms in the eastern Pacific. Another named storm, Iona, which also was once a hurricane, was downgraded from a tropical storm to a tropical depression as it moved far to the west of Hawaii. It, too, was not threatening land. Other storms could develop in the coming days in the eastern Pacific, forecasters said.
