Rape, molest of minors: Dads charged

Kota Kinabalu: Two out of three fathers were separately charged with raping and committing physical sexual harassment against underaged girls. In the first case, Jumat Pillih, 33, pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus, to the charge against him, Friday.
Advertisement He is accused of raping the 15-year-old girl at 6pm on Nov 20, 2021 inside a store in KDCA, Penampang. The offence, under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, on conviction. The court set Aug 21 this year for pre-trial case management and released Jumat on a bail of RM10,000 with RM5,000 deposited in two local sureties. Jumat was also ordered to report to Penampang police station twice a month, to surrender his passport, if any, to the court until the disposal of his case and to not communicate or tamper with the prosecution witnesses. Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Shafeerah Mad Iskim (DPP) objected to Jumat's bail but if the court granted the bail she suggested the amount to be RM10,000, with several conditions imposed on him. Counsel Dominic Chew who defended Jumat, asked for bail to be granted with a lower sum as Jumat has a wife and three children to look after and that he was not a flight risk as he cooperated with the police by reporting himself every month to the Investigating Officer of the case. In the second case, a 42-year-old security guard claimed trial to committing sexual abuse against a 13-year-old girl. Olkestria Bandang made the plea before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain, to committing the offence against the girl by kissing her mouth, fondling her breasts and trying to put his private part into the girl's private part. The alleged offence took place at 7pm in November 2024 inside a car parked in Inanam Point, Inanam, near here. His pre-trial case management had been fixed on Oct 17 this year and the court offered bail of RM3,000 in a local surety who must his wife. The court warned Olkestria not to tamper with the alleged victim, or her family, or any of the potential witnesses. DPP Fazriel Fardiansyah Abdul Kadir objected to bail on the grounds that the case was a non-bailable offence and that Olkestria was living near the alleged victim. He told the court that Olkestria was a security guard of a school in which the girl attended. Counsel Nartiah FM Sambatan requested for bail, saying Olkestria has three children to look after. She further told the court that Olkestria no longer worked at the school where the victim attends. Dr M to govt: Reveal Daim's alleged offences
KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has called on the government to reveal the crimes Tun Daim Zainuddin is alleged to have committed. Dr Mahathir said this as Daim's reputation continued to be questioned even after the former finance minister's passing last November. In his statement, Dr Mahathir alluded to the probe into Daim's undeclared assets. The NST previously reported that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission was looking into property and assets linked to Daim in 11 countries. Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said that at least RM4.5 billion in assets linked to Daim had been traced in several countries, including RM758 million in the United Kingdom. MACC is seeking to seize and forfeit assets worth more than RM3 billion. "Tun Daim is gone, he cannot defend himself," Dr Mahathir said in a statement. "Everyone knows Daim was rich before becoming a minister, and was in the process of surrendering his business interests when he was appointed a minister." Dr Mahathir said Daim only restarted doing business after he was no longer a minister. "Daim did business abroad to avoid being accused of receiving special privileges," he said, adding that Daim had not been linked to any scandal in the countries he did business in.

MMEA detains foreign tanker found anchoring illegally in Johor waters
BATU PAHAT: A Bridgetown, Barbados – registered tanker carrying over 6,800 metric tonnes of tar was detained for illegally anchoring in the waters off Batu Pahat on Sunday. Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Batu Pahat director Commander Mohammad Zaini Zainal said the vessel was intercepted at 12.30am, about 12.8 nautical miles southwest of Tanjung Segenting. The ship's captain failed to produce an anchoring permit during a routine inspection by MMEA officers on patrol. "The tanker, which had sailed from Dubai and stopped at Tanjung Bruas Port in Melaka, was en route to Vietnam when it was found anchoring without clearance in Johor waters," he said in a statement today. All 18 crew members, including the captain — all Indian nationals aged between 22 and 45 — had valid travel documents. The captain and chief engineer were detained, while the remaining crew stayed aboard the vessel, which was placed under arrest and prohibited from sailing. The case is being investigated under Section 491B(1)(L) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 for anchoring without permission from the director-general of the Marine Department Malaysia. If convicted, the offence carries a maximum fine of RM100,000, a jail term of up to two years, or both. Zaini said the MMEA will continue regular patrols to curb unauthorised anchoring activities and warned shipowners and captains to comply strictly with maritime regulations.

Police investigate four reports from Dataran Merdeka rally
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have confirmed receiving four reports linked to the rally held at Dataran Merdeka on Saturday. One case involves an effigy resembling Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim being caned near the National Mosque, while the other three pertain to drone usage. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad stated that the effigy incident is being investigated under multiple laws, including the Sedition Act 1948, the Penal Code, and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. 'The case has been referred to the Classified Crime Investigation Unit in Bukit Aman,' he said during a press conference. The remaining reports concerning drone operations have been forwarded to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM). Mohamed Usuf noted that while the rally proceeded peacefully and with proper approval, authorities will still scrutinise any misconduct by participants. - Bernama
