Aaron Judge gets struck in the face by a toss from Yankees teammate Anthony Volpe
Judge came to bat in the sixth with a small bandage that was still affixed near his right eye after the game. He had a mark right around the eye but said he was fine.
Mark Vientos lined out to Yankees second baseman Oswald Peraza to end the fifth at Citi Field, and New York players began tossing the ball around as they trotted toward the dugout as many major league teams do at the conclusion of an inning.
The ball went to Volpe, and the shortstop made a high, arcing throw in Judge's direction as the slugger jogged in from right field. Judge, however, appeared to be looking the other way as he approached the infield and the ball hit him on the side of the face, knocking off his sunglasses.
'Yeah, I mean, confusion. I didn't know what happened initially. I just saw kind of a, what felt like something happened,' Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. 'So yeah, of course I was concerned. Had a little cut. In the end I don't think anything too serious, obviously. But yeah, initially, obviously very concerned.'
The sloppy Yankees were handed their sixth consecutive defeat, matching a season worst.
'It's been a terrible week,' Boone said.
New York also dropped six straight from June 13-18, marking the first time since 2000 the club has endured two six-game losing streaks in one year.
'Just got to play better. That's what it comes down to. Just fundamentals. Making the routine play routine,' said Judge, the Yankees' captain. 'It's just the little things. That's what it kind of comes down to — but every good team goes through a couple bumps in the road.
'We'll clean some things up. We know what we need to do. We'll take care of business.'

Scherzer exited after Matt Shaw's leadoff double in the eighth. Brendon Little came on and walked pinch-hitter Seiya Suzuki before both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Little departed after striking out Ian Happ and Kyle Tucker. Seranthony Domínguez fanned Carson Kelly to end the threat. The Blue Jays are a major league-best 24-12 in interleague play. NL East-leading Phillies going with a 6-man rotation when Aaron Nola returns on Sunday
WASHINGTON (AP) — Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Thursday that he will utilize a six-man rotation beginning this weekend when Aaron Nola returns from the injured list. Nola is lined up for the series finale Sunday at Washington. The 32-year-old right-hander is coming back from a right ankle sprain. Left-hander Ranger Suárez takes the mound on Monday against the Mariners. The NL East leaders also have ace right-hander Zack Wheeler, lefties Cristopher Sánchez and Jesús Luzardo, and right-hander Taijuan Walker. Thomson said he isn't sure how long he is going to use the six-man rotation. 'Once for sure and then we've got some other ideas how to attack this thing as we move forward,' he said. Philadelphia starters lead the majors with 687 1/3 innings pitched. Sánchez is up to 150 2/3 innings, and Wheeler is at 144 2/3. 'Just getting some of these guys some extra rest cause we've been grinding on them pretty hard all year,' Thomson said before the opener of a four-game set against the Nationals. 'The one downside to it is you've got to take somebody out of your bullpen, so you're a little short there but we'll just have to figure it out.' Nola hasn't pitched in the majors since May 14. LA 2028 Olympic organizers offer venue naming rights to bring in revenue
In what's being called "the largest commercial revenue raise in sports," the LA28 Olympic organizing committee announced on Thursday that sponsors can purchase naming rights of competition venues. LA28 Organizers said it's the first time in Olympic and Paralympic Games that such a bid has been undertaken, and it's part of the committee's mission to keep the Games fully privately funded with no new builds. It's billed as an opportunity to bring multiple millions to the 2028 Games and LA28 Chairperson and President, Casey Wasserman called the first-ever Olympic venue naming rights program historic. "These groundbreaking partnerships with Comcast and Honda, along with additional partners to come, will not only generate critical revenue for LA28 but will introduce a new commercial model to benefit the entire Movement," he said. Honda already has naming rights for the volleyball arena in Anaheim, and Comcast acquired the rights to a temporary squash venue. Under the new pilot program, qualifying LA28 partners will have the opportunity to keep existing venue naming rights during Games time, as well as secure additional marketing assets to significantly bolster their activation efforts. "We're a private enterprise responsible for delivering these games," Wasserman said in an interview with The Associated Press. "It's my job to push. That doesn't mean we're going to win every time we push, but it's our job to always push because our context is pretty unique." Also, the opportunity for naming rights of up to 19 temporary venues will become available to Worldwide Olympic & Paralympic Games partners and LA28 partners. The naming rights for iconic venues like the Rose Bowl, LA Coliseum, or Dodger Stadium will not be for sale, and International Olympic Committee rules still apply for advertising on the field of play -- it's forbidden.
