Infineon investment lifts Malaysia as chip hub, creates 1,500 jobs
He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had announced Infineon's RM30 billion potential investment during a trade and investment mission to Germany, following a meeting with the company's top management.
"That potential has now become a reality. Infineon Technologies, the German semiconductor giant, has commenced an additional RM30 billion investment to build the world's largest 200mm Silicon Carbide (SiC) Power Fab at the Kulim Hi-Tech Industrial Park in Kedah.
"The first phase of the plant has not only been completed, it is already operational. The launch of this facility reflects the state government's recognition of the federal government's efforts in attracting further investment to Kedah," he said in a post on X.
He added that Infineon's commitment also extends to supporting local small and medium enterprises through its local vendor development programme, launched on Jan 15, 2025, which has benefited 139 local companies.
"This is a highly significant investment and a clear sign of Infineon's confidence in Malaysia. From potential, we have made it a reality," added Tengku Zafrul.

For example, he said Malaysia as the 2025 ASEAN Chairman has led efforts to reconcile Cambodia and Thailand, two neighbouring countries that were almost dragged into a more serious conflict. "With the active involvement of China and the United States, we have succeeded in reaching an agreement on an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. "This is proof that diplomacy must underpin our efforts to embody peace and firm leadership," he said. Anwar, who is currently on a working visit to Indonesia, also announced that he was appearing for the first time at the ASEAN Secretariat Building based in Jakarta in conjunction with Malaysia's important role as ASEAN Chairman this year.

India extends free etourist visa for Malaysians till Dec 31 next year
KUALA LUMPUR: (Bernama) Malaysians will continue to enjoy a 30-day double-entry e-Tourist visa at no cost, as New Delhi has extended the facility until Dec 31, 2026, the Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur announced. The 30-day e-Tourist visa can be applied online at the official e-visa link at All other categories of e-visas, including e-Business, e-Conference, e-Medical, e-Ayush, e-Emergency X Miscellaneous, will require payment of visa fees as prescribed, a statement from the Indian High Commission said. Existing rules regarding e-Tourist visas and other e-visas mentioned at will continue to apply. Malaysia and Indonesia strengthen ties with key agreements in annual talks
JAKARTA: Malaysia and Indonesia solidified their bilateral ties with several key agreements during the 13th Annual Consultation held in Jakarta. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim highlighted the signing of four memorandums of understanding (MoUs) covering border issues, health, information and communication, and internet governance. 'We touched on various important issues including a US$30 billion bilateral trade target, investment cooperation in Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), as well as smoother cross-border access facilities in Entikong,' Anwar said at a press conference. He emphasised Malaysia's commitment to being a trustworthy partner in renewable energy, infrastructure, and technology, with Sarawak positioned as an export hub. On maritime boundaries in the Sulawesi Sea, discussions were guided by international law, particularly the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). 'Our spirit is to safeguard each other's interests while respecting the boundaries established in accordance with international law,' Anwar explained. Security cooperation was also a focal point, with both nations agreeing to enhance efforts under the Trilateral Cooperative Arrangement (TCA) to maintain peace in the Sulu and Sulawesi Seas. Anwar reiterated Malaysia's strategic focus on the Straits of Malacca and the South China Sea, stressing that regional stability should be determined by regional players. Regarding the case of Indonesian businessman Mohd Riza Chalid, Anwar stated that Malaysia is prepared to cooperate within legal frameworks.
