SRG.OG pocket RM2.1mil but lose World Cup crown to Team Liquid
The Filipino powerhouse stormed to a 4-1 victory in the final to clinch their first MSCxEWC crown and pocket US$1 million (RM4.215 million) in prize money.
SRG.OG, last year's champions, took home US$500,000 (RM2.13 million) for finishing runners-up.
Team Liquid entered the grand final as hot favourites, having gone unbeaten throughout the tournament and dropping just two games on their way to the title clash.
SRG.OG, the reigning Malaysian league champions and three-time domestic winners, endured a rocky group stage, including a shock defeat to Myanmar's Mythic Seal.
But the Malaysian side roared back in the knockouts, stunning reigning world champions ONIC Philippines in the semi-finals.
They made a flying start in the final, drawing first blood in just 16 minutes. But that was as good as it got as the Filipinos turned the tables and swept the next four games in dominant fashion.
SRG.OG will now regroup and shift their focus to Season 16 of the MLBB Professional League Malaysia (MPL MY), which kicks off later this year.

Nunez nears Al Hilal switch as Liverpool prepare Isak bid
LIVERPOOL: Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is reportedly closing in on a move to Saudi club Al Hilal, which could allow the Premier League champions to make a fresh bid for Newcastle's Alexander Isak. Nunez joined the Reds for an initial 75 million euros (US$87 million, £65 million) from Benfica three years ago but has failed to live up to that price tag. The Uruguayan has scored 40 goals in 143 appearances but slipped down the pecking order at Anfield under both Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot. The sale of Nunez would take Liverpool's income for transfer sales this window to nearly 200 million euros after the departures of Luis Diaz, Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Tyler Morton. Arteta: Arsenal ready to win after years of falling short
LONDON: Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said the Gunners believe this season will be different as they aim to get over a series of near misses at winning silverware. Arteta has not won a trophy since lifting the FA Cup in his debut season in charge in 2019/20. However, he has transformed Arsenal back into serial contenders for major trophies. Arteta's men have finished second in the Premier League for the past three years and reached the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2009 last season. The pressure is now on the Spaniard to get over the line after another major investment in new players in the transfer window. Nearly £200 million (US$266 million) has been spent on new striker Viktor Gyokeres, midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard, centre-back Cristhian Mosquera as well as winger Noni Madueke and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. "We know what our targets are and what we want to achieve this season – there is a big belief in our ability to achieve that," Arteta said in his programme notes ahead of Wednesday's pre-season friendly against Villarreal. Pearly-Thinaah return to historic venue for world conquest
KUALA LUMPUR: Women's doubles Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah will return to a familiar battleground this month when they compete in the World Championships in Paris. The world No. 2 Malaysians will play at the Adidas Arena — formerly known as Arena Porte De La Chapelle — the same venue where they made Olympic history last year. Pearly-Thinaah reached the semi-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming the first Malaysian pair to do so. Although they missed out on a bronze medal after losing to Japan's Nami Matsuyama-Chiharu Shida, former national high performance director Datuk James Selvaraj believes the experience gained there will greatly help Pearly-Thinaah when the French capital hosts the world meet. Pearly-Thinaah are on the right track for the Paris showpiece, reaching four World Tour events finals this year and winning the Thailand Open in May. "Playing at the venue where you made history can have a positive impact," said James. "They know what the place is like. It was there they reached the semi-finals of the Paris Olympics. "Now, they should try to enter the final. Whether they win or not, I don't mind, but at least they must try." James hopes to see great on-court communication and chemistry between the duo, urging Pearly-Thinaah to stay mentally strong. "They must learn to be confident. They must motivate themselves to play better. Only then can they advance to the final," he said. Pearly-Thinaah's previous best result at the World Championships was a quarter-final finish in 2023. Meanwhile former Olympic medallist Datuk Razif Sidek said Malaysia's best chance of winning a medal at the world meet will be in the doubles. "There's a chance for us to at least have one pair reach the final," said Razif. "We have three pairs in the top seven on the world rankings. If the draw is favourable, they must take advantage of it." Both James and Razif feel that the doubles players will have to carry Malaysia's challenge for medals in Paris due to uncertainty in the singles department, with the only real hope for a deep run being Lee Zii Jia. However, the independent shuttler has not played competitively since March due to an ankle injury.
