SCOTT CITY, Kan. (KSNW) — A vehicle has been recovered from the bottom of a Kansas lake.
It happened Monday at Lake Scott State Park north of Scott City. A fisherman spotted the vehicle under the water on the north side of the lake and called the Scott County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office began coordinating the state game wardens for the park. Scott County Emergency Management reached out to the Garden City Fire Department to request mutual aid from their dive team.

It's unknown how long the vehicle may have been underwater, but it appears to have been there for some time. One of the dive team firefighters posted a photo of a can of Diet Pepsi found inside the vehicle with a label design that first appeared in the mid-to-late 1980s.
The Scott City Fire Department was on scene to help clean up the vehicle to try to identify its owner. It's not known yet how it ended up in the lake.
No one was found inside the vehicle, but EMS was on the scene on standby as a precaution.

‘Cool guy': 80s rockstar pulled over in Kansas en route to show

KIOWA COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — Sheriff's deputies in Kansas made an unexpected traffic stop on Friday when they pulled over a vehicle carrying none other than 1980s pop-rock icon John Waite and his band. Sgt. Justin Rugg conducted the stop as the group was headed to Dodge City for a performance at United Wireless Arena. A longtime fan, Rugg couldn't hide his excitement. Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce makes shirtless cameo in 'Happy Gilmore 2' 'I'm not even on cloud nine, I'm on like cloud 12,' Rugg said after meeting the English rock singer, best known for hits like 'Missing You' and 'When I See You Smile.' The Kiowa County Sheriff's Office shared the encounter in a lighthearted social media post, calling Waite a 'cool guy' and thanking him for taking a photo with the sergeant. On his official Facebook page, Waite said they were 'pulled over for speeding' and called Rugg a 'good guy cop.' Waite's band continued on their way, with deputies wishing them a 'rockin' time.' His career began in the 1970s when he became the bassist and lead vocalist for The Babys, which later disbanded after Waite was 'pulled from the stage by an overzealous fan during an encore.' According to his website, Waite 'seriously injured his knee' in the incident. Waite went on to launch a solo career through the 1980s before forming Bad English with former bandmates of The Babys, Jonathan Cain and Ricky Phillips; Journey guitarist Neal Schon; and drummer Deen Castronovo. The group would break up a few years later, relaunching Waite's solo efforts.

Kansas deputy fatally shot by suspect barricaded in house: sheriff

A Kansas sheriff's deputy was killed in the line of duty on Saturday afternoon after responding to a call at a home. Deputy Elijah Ming, 34, was shot by a man who had "barricaded himself inside the residence and opened fire," a Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office media release said, stating that deputies had "responded to a call for a civil standy." Ming, who had worked for the agency for nearly nine years, was taken to a hospital where he later died. About one and a half hours after police, which included the Kansas City, Kansas police department, were called to the scene, the suspect "exited the house and was taken into custody." The suspect was identified as Shawn Harris, 38, of Kansas City, Kansas, by local KSHB. "Our prayers, compassion, and heartfelt condolences are with Deputy Ming's family, friends, and the entire Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office," a Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City KS Facebook post said, which shared a picture of the fallen deputy. Sheriff Daniel Soptic asked that everyone be respectful of Ming's family and for prayers for his family, the department and the community for the loss during a press conference on Saturday night. Wyandotte Mayor Tyrone Garner said he met with Ming's wife and other members of his family at the hospital. "There are no words or comfort that can ever ease the pain of losing someone you love to senseless violence," he said. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is looking into what happened.

At least 11 people stabbed at a Walmart in Michigan

At least 11 people have been stabbed at a Walmart in the US state of Michigan, and a suspect is in custody. Michigan police say the local sheriff's office is investigating the incident in Traverse City and details are limited. Munson Healthcare said on social media that 11 people were being treated at the region's largest hospital in northern Michigan. It said it would provide updates "as appropriate". A Walmart corporate spokesperson, Joe Pennington, said by email the company was "working with police and defer questions to them right now". Messages seeking comment were left with police and the mayor. Traverse City is about 410 kilometres northwest of Detroit, Michigan's most populous city.
