Ryan Gosling and Shawn Levy's "Star Wars" Film Gets Official Title, Sets May 2027 Theatrical Release

Yara Sameh
Lucasfilm confirmed that Ryan Gosling will lead a new 'Star Wars' installment, titled 'Star Wars: Starfighter,' with Shawn Levy directing.
The movie is eyeing a fall production start and Disney has set a theatrical release date of May 28, 2027.
After numerous reports on Gosling and Levy's attachment to a 'Star Wars' project, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni officially unveiled plans for 'Starfighter' on Friday morning at the banner's annual Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo.
Jonathan Tropper has written the screenplay for the movie. Tropper has written prior features for Levy ('The Adam Project,' 'This Is Where I Leave You') and is the creator of the Apple TV+ series 'Your Friends & Neighbors.'
Gosling and Levy appeared at the livestreamed Star Wars Celebration to further tease the project, with Gosling wearing a cap reading, 'Never tell me the odds.'
'Being here and seeing all of you [makes it] more inspiring to do it. There's so much creativity and imagination in this room and there's so much love. It's such a great reminder of how much movies can mean to us, specifically how much these movies mean to us,' Gosling told the screaming audience at the end of the presentation. 'The force is a mysterious thing, but, as I'm here, the force is the fans. All we can hope for is, 'May the fans be with us.''
'We're fans too,' Levy said. 'There's obviously a relationship between these stories and the audience, but we've spent our lives in that audience. We know how meaningful it is.'
The standalone, which focuses on new characters in the 'Star Wars' universe, is set roughly five years after the events of 'Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker,' which concluded the Skywalker saga and currently stands as the final feature chronologically on the 'Star Wars' timeline. No other casting details were announced.
The project marks Levy's directorial follow-up to Marvel Studios' megasmash buddy comedy 'Deadpool & Wolverine,' which raked in $1.3 billion at the global box office after releasing in July 2024 and stands as the highest-grossing R-rated feature of all-time.
Gosling was last seen in the action-heavy romcom 'The Fall Guy,' released in May 2024. 'Starfighter' is a new leap for the typically franchise-averse actor, whose few encounters with IP ('Barbie,' 'Blade Runner 2049') have had less of a track record with filmgoing audiences than the omnipresent (and superlatively lucrative) 'Star Wars' franchise.
'Starfighter' will release just over a year after the next 'Star Wars' theatrical feature, 'The Mandalorian & Grogu.' That film, a theatrical expansion of the Disney+ series 'The Mandalorian,' has already completed principal photography and will release to theaters on May 22, 2026.
It will mark the first 'Star Wars' feature since 'The Rise of Skywalker' debuted in December 2019.

Emily Hampshire Cast as E.D.I.T.H. in "WandaVision" Spinoff "Vision"

Yara Sameh Marvel Studios' "WandaVision" spin-off series "Vision" has landed 'Schitt's Creek' star Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H., the Stark Industries artificial intelligence introduced in 2019's 'Spider-Man: Far From Home.' Hampshire joins Paul Bettany, who is reprising his role as the now-reincarnated synthezoid character, the physical manifestation of another Stark Industries AI, Jarvis. In 'Far From Home,' E.D.I.T.H. is presented as a gift that Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) bequeaths to Peter Parker (Tom Holland) after Stark sacrifices his life in 'Avengers: Endgame.' (The name stands for 'Even Dead, I'm The Hero.') Peter controls E.D.I.T.H. through a pair of high-tech sunglasses, which he unwittingly gives to the film's villain, Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal), before retrieving them at the end of the movie. The glasses are confiscated after Peter's identity as Spider-Man is revealed to the world, and E.D.I.T.H.'s ultimate fate is left unresolved. It's unclear whether Hampshire is just lending her voice to the role or will be embodying it as well, but the character will be one of several AIs to populate the series. James Spader is reprising his role as Ultron, the villain from 2015's 'Avengers: Age of Ultron,' and T'Nia Miller ('The Diplomat') is playing Jocasta, another robotic character from the Marvel Comics. Other co-stars include Todd Stashwick ('Star Trek: Picard'), Ruaridh Mollica ('Ridley') and Faran Tahir, who is reprising the role of 'Iron Man' villain Raza. Terry Matalas ('Star Trek: Picard,' '12 Monkeys') is the executive producer and showrunner for the Vision series, which is set to debut in 2026. Best known for her standout role as Stevie Budd on 'Schitt's Creed,' Hampshire most recently starred on the Amazon series 'The Rig.' She'll next appear opposite Vince Vaughn and James Marsden in the action comedy 'Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice.' read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

Hesham Nazih Joins Marvel Again to Score 'Eyes of Wakanda' Animated Series, Streaming August 6 on Disney+

Renowned Egyptian composer Hesham Nazih has announced his latest collaboration with Marvel Animation: composing the score for Eyes of Wakanda, a new animated series set to premiere on Disney+ on August 6, 2025. Nazih shared the exciting news via his official platforms, marking his second partnership with Marvel following the global acclaim he received for his work on Moon Knight (2022). His Moon Knight score was widely praised for its musical depth and seamless fusion of Egyptian identity with Hollywood-style storytelling. What Is Eyes of Wakanda? Set in the same universe as Black Panther, Eyes of Wakanda is one of the first projects in Marvel's Phase Six and consists of four animated episodes produced by Marvel Animation. The story follows elite Wakandan warriors known as the 'Hatut Zeraze' or 'War Dogs,' tasked across different eras with retrieving lost pieces of vibranium — the powerful, mysterious metal unique to Wakanda. Described by some as an 'African James Bond,' the series dives into Wakanda's hidden history, blending espionage, sci-fi, and high-stakes action in a thrilling animated journey.

Hesham Nazih to Compose Score of Marvel's New Series ‘Eyes of Wakanda'

The Egyptian composer is once again working with Marvel Studio following his score on 'Moon Knight'. May 29, 2025 News of a second season of 'Moon Knight' may be scarce, but it doesn't mean Marvel Studios has stepped away from tapping Egyptian talent to tune up their work. Award winning composer Hesham Nazih has been selected to write the score for Marvel Studios' newest animated series 'Eyes of Wakanda'. Nazih's score for the 2022 live action series 'Moon Knight' received international attention for incorporating elements of Egyptian musical heritage into a modern orchestral framework, and has received multiple nominations and awards, including Best Original Score for a Television Series at the 2023 International Film Critics Award. He also composed the music for Egypt's Pharaohs' Golden Parade in 2021, and has worked on a number of Egyptian blockbusters including 'Kira & El Gin', 'Welad El Rizk', 'The Blue Elephant', 'The Originals', and 'Ibrahim Labyad'. He was the first composer to have ever received the Faten Hamama Excellence Award by the Cairo International Film Festival in 2018. 'Eyes of Wakanda' is part of Marvel's animated expansion and is a spin-off from the Black Panther franchise. The series follows Wakandan warriors throughout history as they search for vibranium artefacts across the globe, and is scheduled for release on August 6th, 2025 on the Disney+ streaming platform.
