Reliance Consumer Products enters healthy beverages market with Naturedge JV

Mumbai, Aug 19 (UNI) Reliance Consumer Products Ltd (RCPL) has officially entered the healthy functional beverages market by acquiring a majority stake in a joint venture with Naturedge Beverages, the maker of the natural herbal functional drink brand 'Shunya'. The move strengthens RCPL's vision of becoming a "total beverage company" by adding health-focused, herbal-natural offerings to its expanding portfolio, according to a company statement. Naturedge Beverages, founded in 2018 by Siddhesh Sharma of the Baidyanath Group, is known for its flagship brand 'Shunya', a zero-calorie, zero-sugar functional drink infused with Ayurvedic herbs like Ashwagandha, Brahmi, Khus, Kokum, and Green Tea. The joint venture will help scale the 'Shunya' beverage brand across India through RCPL's vast distribution network. RCPL Executive Director Ketan Mody stated that the partnership had strengthened the company's beverage portfolio by offering consumers health-driven alternatives. He added that the collaboration would help position 'Shunya' as a pan-India brand, in line with the rising consumer preference for herbal-natural functional beverages. The addition of Naturedge complements RCPL's earlier acquisitions of Campa, Raskik, and launches like Campa Energy, as the company seeks to transform India's beverage market. UNI XC AKT SSP

NHM employees begin indefinite strike, healthcare services impacted

Pune: Nearly 20,000 of 39,500 National Health Mission (NHM) employees, which include 1,500 from Pune district, began an indefinite strike across Maharashtra on Tuesday over what they called state's failure to implement a govt resolution on regularisation of posts. The strike is organised under the banner of the 'NHM Integration Committee, Maharashtra', with multiple health workers' unions coming together for the first time. Employees from technical and non-technical departments, including maternity wards, neonatal units, ICU, vaccination, and drug distribution boycotted work. The disruption is expected to severely impact public healthcare services across the state. Committee president Vijay Gaikwad in a statement on Tuesday said the GR issued on March 14, 2024, mandated regularisation of contract employees with over 10 years of service. Despite repeated assurances by the authorities, it has not been implemented even after 17 months, he said. Supreme Court Dismisses IMA Petition Against Patanjali Misleading Ads

On August 11, 2025, the Supreme Court has rejected a petition filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA). The IMA had claimed that Patanjali Ayurved's advertisements were misleading and harmed modern medicine. Rule 170 and AYUSH Advertising: On July 1, 2024, the AYUSH Ministry removed Rule 170, which required state approval before advertising Ayurvedic, Siddha, and Unani medicines. In August 2024, the Supreme Court temporarily restored the rule. Supreme Court Decision: Justice K.V. Viswanathan said that once the Centre removes a rule, states cannot enforce it. Justice B.V. Nagarathna suggested closing the case since the main reliefs sought by the IMA were already addressed. The court emphasized that a rule removed by the Centre cannot be reinstated by the court. Earlier Actions: The court examined Patanjali's misleading ads and regulatory inaction. Contempt proceedings against Patanjali were closed after repeated apologies. The court warned that banning ads or granting approvals for AYUSH medicines could encourage unfair trade practices.
