According to police, Martinez said she was in a relationship with the victim, Joseph Alvarez. She stated they were arguing and had become physical inside a vehicle near Gibson and San Mateo. According to a criminal complaint, first responders found Alvarez dead outside the vehicle, with Martinez crying and apologizing on a corner nearby. She told police that she shot Alvarez in self defense after he threatened to hit her with his gun. A judge sentenced Martinez to six years in prison.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An orthodontist who formerly practiced in Grandville is now facing federal child exploitation charges. Thomas Shannon, 43, was arrested in Frankfort, Michigan, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Michigan announced Wednesday. He is charged by criminal complaint with sexual exploitation of a minor, attempted sexual exploitation of a minor, possession of child pornography, receipt of child pornography and attempted receipt of child pornography, according to the attorney's office. According to a criminal complaint filed in federal court Monday, a therapist reported in 2021 that a teenager had been sexually exploited. The victim told police that she had received money in exchange for sending illicit images, the complaint continues, and investigators traced the Snapchat and CashApp accounts to Shannon, who lived in Byron Township. Sex offender, busted in sting but not arrested, snagged again In 2022, amid a Kent County investigation, the complaint says Shannon hired a private forensic investigator to search his phone 'in an attempt to prove that he did not possess any child pornography.' Authorities found evidence that Shannon possessed and received child pornography, according to the complaint. Investigators found that Shannon had communicated with multiple minor victims whom he met online, the complaint alleges. One was just 12 years old. The complaint placed most of the victims out of state. Shannon was in January 2023. But according to the federal complaint, he was released on bond. Investigators found that he was on bond for those charges while communicating with one victim — a 13-year-old — in 2024, the complaint alleges. The state case against Shannon is pending. A video posted on social media showed immigration agents yanking Colombian TikToker Tatiana Martinez from her vehicle during an arrest last week. Martinez was detained on Friday in Los Angeles while sitting inside her Tesla. She was streaming on TikTok when federal agents approached her vehicle, according to Newsweek. Footage shows three agents pull Martinez, whose real name is Leidy Tatiana Mafla-Martinez, out of the car and place her facedown on the ground as she screams. In another video, a person yells for someone to call 911 as Martinez lies motionless on the ground. Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, said in a statement that Martinez was detained because of a prior conviction of driving under the influence in Los Angeles. McLaughlin said Martinez came to the United States in 2022 and "was RELEASED by the Biden administration." "Under President Trump and @Sec_Noem, if you break the law, you will face the consequences," Homeland Security said in a post on X. The agency did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the social media videos. During her arrest, Martinez complained about shortness of breath and was given medical treatment, McLaughlin said, and is being held at a facility in Calexico, California. It's not clear if she has obtained an attorney. Martinez gained followers on TikTok after posting videos documenting the ICE raids under President Donald Trump's push for mass deportations, Newsweek reported. She also shared guidance on what people should do if Immigration and Customs Enforcement stop them. McLaughlin said that as agents were detaining Martinez, another person "unlawfully towed a government police vehicle." "He mocked and videotaped ICE officers chasing after him. Secretary [Kristi] Noem has been clear: Anyone who seeks to impede law enforcement will be found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," McLaughlin said.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Hernandez Govan, the man accused of orchestrating the death of rapper Young Dolph, is set to appear in court for day three of his trial Wednesday morning. On Tuesday, Angela Arnold, the girlfriend of Cornelius Smith, was the first witness to take the stand. She told the court that to her knowledge, Smith never had direct contact with Big Jook and that he would communicate with Govan to send and receive messages. She also testified she saw Govan at a carwash hours after Young Dolph's death, when Smith picked up a cellphone from Govan he had left in the white Mercedes used in the murder. Various Memphis Police Investigators were then called to testify in court, along with cell phone records. According to the investigators, they went over calls and text records of Goavn, Smith, and Big Jook in the months leading up to the murder and afterward. They say Smith appeared to have several outgoing calls to Govan. But in cross-examination, Govan's defense attorney explained the reasoning for their communication, saying, Govan supplied Smith with various types of pills, and Johnson talked with him because he was an aspiring rapper. Another investigator who testified said detectives went to the airport to execute a search warrant on Big Jook's phone and asked if they could speak to him, but he refused.
