Rasmus Hojlund Faces Fresh Scrutiny but Declares Commitment to Manchester United
Future promises amid present doubts
There is an art to sounding certain when everything around you is uncertain. Rasmus Hojlund, the £72 million striker whose goals have largely been memories rather than moments, has spoken, not with the bullish swagger of a man in demand, but with the soft, oddly formal cadence of a player trying to persuade himself as much as anyone else.

'I have a contract until 2030, so I expect to play for Manchester United,' he told Ekstra Bladet. As Reported by TalkSport. In footballing terms, that's somewhere between a shrug and a vow. Expectation, after all, is not the same as certainty.
Numbers that tell a brutal truth
The raw statistics are difficult to sugarcoat. Four goals in 32 Premier League appearances. That's not a lean patch, it's a drought. When the number of goal involvements mirrors that of Ederson, Manchester City's goalkeeper, it becomes a kind of grim poetry.

And it gets worse. Hojlund's struggles are not confined to the red half of Manchester. He's scored just once for Denmark since October 2023, and even that fleeting spark is now smothered by a 2-1 slog over Northern Ireland. Subbed off after 66 minutes, his international manager Brian Riemer offered more confusion than clarity.

'It was difficult for him, and it wasn't what we had hoped for,' Riemer admitted, suggesting tactical misalignment more than personal failure. 'He becomes isolated, and then the match ends as it does.'
Inter Milan whispers and the shadow of Gyokeres
All of this comes at a time when Manchester United are supposedly eyeing other striking options. Viktor Gyokeres has emerged as a compelling link, largely due to his rapport with ex-Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim.

Amid this backdrop, Inter Milan reportedly expressed interest in a £38 million move. Such figures, while below the sum paid by United, would at least allow all parties to save face. But Hojlund insists he hasn't entertained such talk. 'I try to stay away from all that,' he said, before reinforcing once again that 'I expect to play [at United]'.

It is loyalty, of a kind. Or perhaps resignation.
Still room for growth?
What makes the Hojlund situation so perplexing is the paradox it represents. Physically imposing and technically promising, the 22-year-old clearly possesses the tools. What he lacks, at the moment, is rhythm, consistency and perhaps trust—both from himself and those around him.
The forward's own words feel scripted, but not insincere. 'I'm looking forward to going on a summer vacation, and then I'm fully dedicated to the project that's underway.' The project, however, remains vaguely defined. What exactly is underway? A revival? A reset? Or the slow fade of yet another big-money United gamble?
Our View – EPL Index Analysis
He's young, hungry, and was never meant to carry the weight of a broken attack. Yet when the club splashes £72 million on a player, the fans have every right to expect impact, not excuses.

The idea that he has the same number of goal contributions as Ederson? That's the kind of statistic that fuels pub debates and meme pages, not title challenges. Add the fact that the new manager arrived with a clear tactical shift—and possibly a preference for someone like Gyokeres—and Hojlund's place becomes precarious.
Still, there's something endearing in his insistence that he's staying, that he's invested. Supporters respond to honesty, even if it's tinged with naivety. But this is Manchester United. Sentiment only lasts until September. After that, it's goals or the bench.

'We've got to find something' – Why Chelsea want Garnacho according to the stats

Chelsea are still being heavily linked with a move for Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho, with talks rumbling on in the background as the Blues prepare for the new season. According to most sources, a deal is already agreed with the Argentine winger, it's just a case of getting a fee sorted with the Red Devils. They've spent big on a new attacking line after a horrible few years, and want to make some money back. Selling the unhappy Garnacho is an obvious move for them, and it seems we're just waiting it out and hoping they get desperate and drop the price. But why would we want their cast-offs when we've already got such a crop of attacking talent? The London is Blue podcast took a look at his numbers to try and find something positive: Garnacho shot numbers can be a boost to Chelsea Alejandro Garnacho has been linked with a move to Chelsea. (Photo by) 'Garnacho in the last two seasons, has played 108 games for Manchester United, presenter Dan Dorner pointed out. 'He played almost 3600 minutes two seasons ago, he played 3600 minutes last season. Two seasons ago he had 10 goals, 5 assists. Last season 11 goals, 10 assists. He went from 3.36 shots per 90 minutes two seasons ago to 3.68. So if you're saying 'hey, why should I like this?' – volume shooters, who shoot on target (he had basically 1.3 shots on target per 90) put you in a position to score and win games. 'I'm not trying to say I love the deal, I'm just trying to say if he's going to be a Chelsea player, we've got to find something to like about it. You can see their discussion in the clip embedded here: Garnacho has to step his whole game up to make move worth it There's no doubting that Garnacho has some talent, and that he could be a good value pickup. But it's going to take us more than some simple shot numbers to convince us of that.

Marcus Rashford impresses in first start for FC Barcelona

Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford had a mixed evening as FC Barcelona thrashed FC Como 5-0 in the Joan Gamper trophy. You can keep track of all United's loanees on this page dedicated to United's stars plying their trade at different clubs this season. First appearance in Spain Rashford joined the club last month and played a key role in all of their friendly wins in Asia. Against FC Seoul he grabbed an assist and against FC Daegu he scored his first goal for the Catalans. All of his appearances came off the bench but he got the chance to be involved from the start in his first home game. He will have to wait a little bit before playing in the Camp Nou though, as Barcelona put the finishing touches to their new stadium. Instead, they played at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. Great assist Barcelona's head coach Hansi Flick has been impressed by Rashford to date and there have even been reports he could be a number nine this season for La Blaugrana. He continued to link up well with his fellow attackers as he started ahead of Robert Lewandowski with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha either side of him. His first major involvement came in the 37th minute when he showed great speed to link up with Fermin Lopez and he went racing down the right hand side of the pitch. After beating the Italian defence for pace, he delivered a pinpoint cross into the box which Raphinha gladly swept into the net to give Barcelona a 3-0 lead. Incredible miss It wasn't all positive for the United loanee however, as he missed a glorious chance to score in front of his new home fans. Lamine Yamal expertly picked Rashford out with a reverse pass to send him through one on one with the keeper. Rashford did the hard part by staying onside and rounded the keeper, only to side foot a left-footed effort wide of the post, much to the disbelief of the crowd and his teammates. He was subbed off at half-time with Ferran Torres taking his place. Rashford will hope to be in the starting line up once again when FC Barcelona travel to Mallorca this coming Saturday in their first game of the league season. Tottenham Hotspur in talks with Manchester City over Savinho transfer

Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with Manchester City over an unexpected deal to sign winger Savinho. Dialogue has taken place between the clubs and a package worth in the region of €50million (£43.3m, $58.2m) is under discussion. City are not actively looking to sell Savinho but he open to the possibility and Pep Guardiola tends not to stand in the way of player who want to leave. Advertisement An agreement has not been reached but work continues as Spurs try to land the 21-year-old in a shock move. Savinho joined City from Girona last summer and the Brazil international is contracted to them until June 2028. The winger, who has scored one goal in 13 international appearances for Brazil, netted three times for Guardiola's side across 48 appearances in 2024-25. Having begun his career at Atletico Mineiro, he subsequently joined French club Troyes, part of the City Football Group (CFG). He was loaned to PSV Eindhoven, where he made eight appearances in 2022-23, before in 2023-24 making a loan move to CFG sister club Girona, whom he helped to a top-four finish in La Liga and a first-ever club qualification to the Champions League, with 11 goals that term. Savinho then made a permanent move to City, the flagship team of CFG, last summer. () Spot the pattern. Connect the terms Find the hidden link between sports terms Play today's puzzle
