₹5 Parle-G sold for ₹2,300 in Gaza? Father's war reality claim shocks internet

Hindustan Times07-06-2025
A video of a kid receiving Parle-G, her favourite biscuits, from her father in Gaza has shocked social media. In the video, the man claims that the item is sold for ₹2,300 - a huge difference from its humble pricing in India - amid the ongoing Israel-Gaza war.
'After a long wait, I finally got Ravif her favorite biscuits today. Even though the price jumped from €1.5 to over €24, I just couldn't deny Rafif her favorite treat,' X user Mohammed Jawad wrote.
In addition to the video, which shows Ravif receiving her biscuits, Jawad also posted a picture of her relishing the treat.
Though HT.com cannot independently verify the claims in the X post, the share has taken social media by storm. While many showed sympathy, some tagged Minister of External Affairs of India S Jaishankar, urging him to send biscuits to the kid.
An individual wrote, 'S Jaishankar, That baby is eating India's favourite biscuit. Look, I know we are neutral about the war. But can we please send more Parle G to Palestine? These are glucose biscuits that will help relieve the civilian population.' Another urged, "India should send some more food and medicines to Palestine.'
A third posted, 'It's very saddening to see this.' A fourth remarked, 'These are my favourite biscuits, too, from my childhood.' A few on social media simply expressed their shock and surprise.
HT.com has reached out to the company. This report will be updated when a response is received.
According to a report by NDTV, the humanitarian aid that enters Gaza is often sold at a steep price in the black market. Dr Khaled Alshawwa, a 31-year-old surgeon based in Gaza City, told NDTV, 'The problem isn't with the original suppliers or taxation,' adding, 'These goods usually enter Gaza as humanitarian aid, free of charge. But only a minority receives them. Scarcity turns them into high-priced black market goods.'
'The closure of borders for more than three months now has allowed only a scarce amount of very basic needs that don't meet the needs of 2 million people. So when some people are able to get some, or when looting happens, these foods are being sold at very high, unaffordable prices,' the doctor continued.

Effective warm-up exercises can increase range of motion and lower the chance of injury while exercising. Energy levels, concentration, and general workout performance can all be enhanced by a pre-workout diet and exercise. Benefits of Post-Workout Movements: Post-workout stretches that are held for a while, such as hamstring stretches, can help ease muscle tension and increase flexibility. Muscle soreness and stiffness after exercise can be reduced by static stretching and cool-down techniques. Cool-down exercises can lower the chance of injury by aiding the body in gradually returning to a resting condition. Fitness instructor Yasmin Karachiwala often shares workout tips and tricks on her social media account. Earlier, Karachiwala shared four impressive, quick and effective workouts with only a pair of dumbbells. Low HDL Levels Pose Heart Health Risk: Nutritionist Shares Tips To Boost Your Good Cholesterol Naturally

High-density lipoprotein (HDL), also known as the good cholesterol, is essential for eliminating low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and excess cholesterol from the bloodstream and transferring them to the liver for elimination. However, a large number of people have HDL levels below 40 mg/dL, which is deemed unhealthy and raises the risk of cardiovascular issues, according to nutritionist Anjali Mukerjee. In her recent Instagram post, Anjali mentions that HDL levels are declining as a result of modern lifestyles. Fear of dietary fat, excessively processed food and sedentary lifestyles have all contributed to the issue. While reducing LDL is a common focus, increasing HDL is equally important for heart health. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Anjali Mukerjee (@anjalimukerjee) Ways to boost HDL levels naturally Anjali Mukerjee shares the following guide to naturally increase the HDL levels and boost your heart's "good" cholesterol: 1. Exercise daily The first piece of advice is to exercise regularly. HDL levels can be naturally raised by walking briskly, cycling, swimming, or strength exercising for at least an hour every day. After a while, even little exercise, like brisk walking for 30 minutes, can have beneficial effects. "Exercise brings up HDL levels. So start exercising, whether it's a walk or strength training, any movement for about an hour a day," Anjali says. 2. Eat good fats The second strategy is to include healthy fats in the diet. Despite the widespread misconception that fats are bad, some fats can help lower cholesterol. Moderate use of ghee has been shown to promote HDL synthesis. "Have a tablespoon of ghee regularly, and it will raise the good cholesterol," Anjali advises. Furthermore, Anjali says that omega-3 fatty acid-rich foods provide an additional beneficial supplement. Besides increasing HDL, walnuts, flaxseeds, avocados and perilla seeds can help maintain a healthy omega-3 to omega-6 ratio, reducing inflammation and improving cholesterol transport. According to Anjali Mukerjee, avocados are another HDL-friendly meal that contains fibre and heart-healthy fats. The lipid profile may change noticeably if people swap processed snacks for a few slices of avocado or a handful of almonds. In summary, your heart may be more vulnerable if your HDL levels are below 40. The good news is that your cholesterol profile can be considerably improved by making small, regular changes like exercising daily and carefully including healthy fats. Saved 252 People: DMK Leader Appears To Defend Kidney Transplant Racket

Chennai: A controversial video has emerged of DMK MLA P Kathiravan, whose family-run hospital recently lost its kidney transplant licence over an alleged illegal organ trade racket. In the video, which NDTV could not independently verify, the legislator purportedly presents himself as a life-saver rather than a wrongdoer. "I've saved the lives of 252 people. None talks about this," Mr Kathiravan is heard saying while addressing people at his constituency. Detailing the procedures, he claims that each kidney transplant involved four specialist doctors - three surgeons, one urologist and an anaesthetist - along with 15 to 20 supporting staff, and that three separate permissions were required before surgery. "We charge Rs 10 to Rs 12 lakh per surgery. After paying for medicines and doctors, I get only Rs 2-3 lakh. Total surgeries done - 252. This is not worth a rupee. Since we have a medical college, we do this only as a service. There are a thousand ways to earn. Why kidney? How many can we take away?" he apparently says in the clip. Mr Kathiravan even refered to his father's luxury car. "My father's Rolls Royce is worth Rs 14.5 crore. I would have to take away all the kidneys here to buy that," he said, insisting that the hospital is now run by his daughter and son-in-law. Modus Operandi Earlier this month, the Tamil Nadu government suspended the kidney transplant licences of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College Hospital in Perambalur - run by Kathiravan's family - and Cethar Hospitals in Trichy. A state health department probe found that the "family donor" provision under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act was allegedly misused, with poor weavers from Namakkal district being lured by brokers with large sums of money to sell their kidneys. These donors would then pose as relatives of recipients to pass legal scrutiny. One such alleged middleman, identified as Anandan, remains on the run, no arrest has been made yet. "Boasting Without Shame" Says BJP Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai slammed the MLA's comments, accusing him of "boasting without shame" and "admitting to a business worth crores". "Kathiravan says he made ₹2 to ₹3 lakh per surgery, which amounts to at least ₹7.5 crore from this trade. He even compares kidney profits to his father's ₹14.5 crore Rolls Royce. This isn't a joke - poor weavers were exploited, and the DMK government has taken no serious action. The middleman is still at large," Annamalai said. The video has come as an embarassment to the ruling DMK and the party has so far refrained from commenting on the controversy. Kathiravan was not reachable for a response.
