More than 100,000 Ford cars recalled. See impacted models.

More than 100,000 Ford trucks have been recalled because of a wheel bolt that may break and increase the risk of a crash. Ford discovered that some F-150 trucks in in the model years 2023 to 2025 could have a rear-axle hub bolt that is susceptible to breaking, which can cause damage to the axle hub splines, according to a recall notice posted on Aug. 8 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Damage to the axle hub splines can cause the vehicle to roll away, increasing the chance of a crash, the recall notice said. This recall expands a previous NHTSA recall issued in December 2023 that applied to Ford F-150 trucks in model years 2021 to 2023. The previous recall was similarly caused by the rear-axle hub bolt. The issue can be remedied by replacing the car's rear-axle shaft assemblies, according to the recall notice. Here's what to know: Which Ford vehicles are being recalled? About 103,000 Ford F-150 trucks cars in the model years 2023 to 2025 are part of the recall, according to the NHTSA notice. The affected vehicles are equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package, the notice said. Owners will be notified via letters that are expected to be mailed between Aug. 18, 2025 and May 22, 2026. Customers can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and mention the code for this recall: 25S82. What to do if your car has been recalled Owners with impacted vehicles should bring their truck to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the left and right rear-axle shaft assemblies replaced. The replacement will be made free of charge. How to check if your car has been recalled To check the status of recalls on vehicles, car parts or car accessories, use the NHTSA recall database or USA TODAY's car and motor vehicle recall database. Car owners can see if their vehicles have been recalled by searching their car's make or model. Also, direct searching is available on the NHTSA website by inputting your vehicle's license plate number or vehicle identification number. Melina Khan is a national trending reporter for USA TODAY.
