More than 100,000 Ford trucks have been recalled because of a wheel bolt that may break and increase the risk of a crash.
Ford discovered that some F-150 trucks in in the model years 2023 to 2025 could have a rear-axle hub bolt that is susceptible to breaking, which can cause damage to the axle hub splines, according to a recall notice posted on Aug. 8 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Damage to the axle hub splines can cause the vehicle to roll away, increasing the chance of a crash, the recall notice said.
This recall expands a previous NHTSA recall issued in December 2023 that applied to Ford F-150 trucks in model years 2021 to 2023. The previous recall was similarly caused by the rear-axle hub bolt.
The issue can be remedied by replacing the car's rear-axle shaft assemblies, according to the recall notice.
Here's what to know:
Which Ford vehicles are being recalled?
About 103,000 Ford F-150 trucks cars in the model years 2023 to 2025 are part of the recall, according to the NHTSA notice.
The affected vehicles are equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package, the notice said.
Owners will be notified via letters that are expected to be mailed between Aug. 18, 2025 and May 22, 2026. Customers can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and mention the code for this recall: 25S82.
What to do if your car has been recalled
Owners with impacted vehicles should bring their truck to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the left and right rear-axle shaft assemblies replaced.
The replacement will be made free of charge.
How to check if your car has been recalled
To check the status of recalls on vehicles, car parts or car accessories, use the NHTSA recall database or USA TODAY's car and motor vehicle recall database.
Car owners can see if their vehicles have been recalled by searching their car's make or model.
Also, direct searching is available on the NHTSA website by inputting your vehicle's license plate number or vehicle identification number.

How Ford ensures complete quality in every Ranger built in SA

Quickpic Ford South Africa has a stringent batch of quality checks with its Ranger bakkie as the automaker aims to be the best quality-built Ranger in the world. Here's a little look behind the scenes in its Silverton Plant outside Pretoria. The biggest bakkie rivalry in South Africa is undoubtedly between the most popular Toyota Hilux and the Ford Ranger. Both are firm favourites in SA, both in the new vehicle market and the used car department. While the new Hilux will make its highly anticipated arrival in 2026, the Ranger currently leads in terms of features, tech, and quality control. And, where Hilux dominates as the best single-cab bakkie, the South Africans rate the Ranger as the best double-cab, making it a great lifestyle and family vehicle. But just how does the Blue Oval brand commit to such a high-quality standard at its Silverton Assembly Plant outside Pretoria? The automaker says it aims to deliver a product that employees and customers can be proud of, which is why each Ranger has a 'Proudly built in SA' sticker on its tailgate to emphasise that promise. From digital quality control to real-time customer support, the automaker's approach is data-driven, efficient, and focused on exceeding the highest global standards. Ford aims to create a manufacturing culture where zero defects are achievable and to be the world's best Ranger plant. Quickpic The automaker uses the following manufacturing quality proof points to ensure each bakkie has its stamp of approval: Quality checks: Precision equipment and sensors have replaced paper-based quality checks, offering real-time, data-backed insights. Thousands of sensors feed into a central Factory Information System, streamlining fault detection and resolution. Visible performance metrics: Every department is equipped with digital display boards that automatically update with built-in performance data. This ensures complete transparency and alignment across teams around targets and results. Significant quality gains: Repairs per thousand vehicles have dropped dramatically, now averaging fewer than five repairs per 1 000 units. Quickpic Rapid issue resolution: With the newly established 'Rapid Hubs' network, Ford's technical team reports issues directly to the plant in real time. This proactive approach reduces response time from weeks to hours, keeping vehicles on the road and customers satisfied. Vision for the future: The plant's objective is to be the best-quality Ranger plant globally. Employees feel empowered to take ownership and pride in their work and to grow Silverton's success for future generations. ALSO READ |

President Andrew Frick stated Ford expects to 'carry that performance into the second half' due to strong product segments and stable pricing. Mark Delaney (Goldman Sachs) questioned Ford's ability to balance emission policy opportunities with competitive EV offerings. CEO Jim Farley said Ford is 'radically reengineering' its EV platform to compete globally, especially with Chinese manufacturers, while leveraging LFP battery technology. Ford's Latest Truck Patent Could Change the Camping Game for Good

The Blue Oval has published a design for an overlanding pop-top that's innovative in more ways than one. Like most OEMs in the industry, Ford typically leaves the development of overlanding equipment to aftermarket suppliers. After all, their specialization creates a competitive product. However, the Blue Oval appears to have had its eye on the pickup accessories market lately. As evidenced by a recently discovered patent, Ford's engineers are kicking around a few ideas that could change the camping game. Pickup pop-top As reported by Carbuzz, Ford filed a patent for a rooftop tent in 2024 — the 'Shelter System Having Deployable Platform' — that was published last week. While a pop-up sleeper in itself is nothing new, the Blue Oval's engineers have designed this particular patent specifically for use with a pickup. Rather than adapting an existing design developed for the roof of an SUV, Ford's concept takes advantage of a truck bed. When stowed, the tent acts as an angled aerodynamic tonneau cover — it packs flat and shields the bed while leaving its cargo area unobstructed. However, come time for deployment, it unfolds over top of the cab and creates a spacious overlanding shelter. In addition to a set of slippery side panels for extra wind-cheating abilities, Ford engineers also envisioned the system featuring some front struts for structural support. It's a slick system in that it forgoes the need for a rear rack common to truck tent setups. Electric implications Throughout the patent document, Ford made specific and multiple references to the fact that the pictured pickup was electric. After all, improving aerodynamic efficiency reaps significant benefits when it comes to EV range. However, even in the absence of its fancy bed-based tent design, the truck doesn't really look like anything that's in the Blue Oval's lineup. While there are some obvious similarities to the Ford Maverick, the F-150 Lightning is currently the only electric Ford pickup on the market. At this stage, the brand does have a hybrid Maverick, though it's a PHEV. Considering the recent rumors surrounding Ford's forthcoming affordable battery-powered truck, this patent may give an early look at a soon-to-be-announced vehicle. While you shouldn't hold your breath for a release because of a patent filing, past designs have made the jump to reality.
