GNFL round seven wrap: Hawks swoop on Rams with impressive win in Northampton
Eight individual goalkickers got the job done for the Hawks, with Hassan Ahmat-Watkins leading the way with a three-goal bag while Dale Williamson played his part with two goals.
Braden Jupp led the scoring duties for Northampton with two goals to his name at Purcher International Oval, with the Rams only managing to kick five majors in the contest at their home ground.
Brigades' best on ground was awarded to Jesse Casselton with teammates Dylan Ralph, Mick Quick, Reid Foot and Jed Edwards also impressing as the Hawks swooped for the win.
Kingsley Smith was huge for the Rams while Gus Heberle, Peter Hampton, Tyler Caddy and Jupp shone for the home side who fell short.
It was a fast start for both sides as the Hawks edged ahead in the first term with two goals to one. It was more of the same in the second quarter as the visitors managed to convert in front of goal adding two majors to their total while Northampton only managed one.
Brigades came out firing in the second half as they began to run away with the contest. Northampton were left in the dust as they failed to convert in front of goal only managing one behind.
Brigades on the other hand bagged four goals in the term before five-goal final term saw the visiting side secure the win 13.11 (89) to Northampton 5.8 (38).
Meanwhile at Greenough Oval, Rovers hosted ladder leaders Railways in what ended up being a tough day for the Demons in an 81-point loss.
Clayton Parfitt, Waydn Gentle, Blake Tazewell, Jamie Geier and Kobi Bursill were impressive for the Dees with six individual goal kickers spread out amongst the squad. A gutsy effort in the final term saw their best performance in front of goal kicking 3.1 but it was too little too late for Rovers. The final score was Railways 17.17 to Rovers 6.2 (38).
The final game of round seven saw Chapman Valley face off against Mullewa at Mazzuchelli Oval with the Royals flexing their muscles in a huge 169-point win.
Tyrone Papertalk Jr was awarded best on ground with a seven-goal performance while brothers Jayden and Kim Schofield kicked five and six goals respectively along with Kobe SImpson who booted five goals and Mitch Thompson three.
Callum and Leedham Papertalk kicked the only two goals of the contest for Mullewa with one each, while Kristefer Ryder, Shane Bonney, Calvin Wall and Jayden Wall were judged best on for the visitors. The final score was Chapman Valley 29.17 (191) to Mullewa 2.10 (22).

A top-of-the-table clash at WA Country Builders Stadium in round 16 of the GNWFL saw Chapman Valley flex their muscles in Towns' backyard with a solid win on the road. It was a low-scoring affair, with Chapman Valley managing to edge ahead early in the contest. Giteau Law ‘redundant' as Wallabies look to build on Lions success
Rugby Australia director of high performance Peter Horne says the controversial Giteau Law is 'kind of redundant,' leaving Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt free to pick his strongest squad for The Rugby Championship. Schmidt is expected to name his squad on Thursday before the Wallabies fly to South Africa on Saturday to take on the Springboks in Johannesburg and Cape Town on August 16 and 23. Schmidt has consistently favoured players who ply their trade in Australia, unless an overseas-based player is considered demonstrably stronger than the domestic alternative. The so-called 'Giteau Law' was last tweaked in 2022. Players need to have 30 Test caps or five years' service to Australian rugby to be eligible to be picked while playing overseas, with a limit of three picks a series. Former Wallabies winger Drew Mitchell was a beneficiary of the first iteration of the law in 2015 when he was selected for Australia in the World Cup while playing for Toulon in France. Horne said hypothetically that there was now nothing to stop Schmidt picking an overseas international rookie, such as Northampton star Josh Kemeny, who has played just two Tests for the Wallabies, giving the New Zealander further flexibility in his selections. 'I think we've been pretty open. Joe [Schmidt] has got no impediment to select whoever he wants; that's always been the case,' Horne said. 'The Giteau Law, it's kind of redundant, right? Though the reality is, if he wants to pick, I don't know, Josh Kemeny from Northampton, that's his call.
