Philippine Pavilion unveils 'Soil-beings (Lamanlupa)' at Venice Architecture Biennale in Italy
The exhibition curated by Renan Laru-an and featuring the work of German-Filipino artist Christian Tenefrancia Illi aims to challenge traditional architectural perspectives by presenting soil not as a mere material, but as a dynamic, living entity.
It reimagines the foundational relationship between architecture and soil, shifting focus from structure to the underlying substrate.
The exhibition also aims to foster more reciprocal and ethical relationships with the earth, inviting architects, designers, and the public to engage with soil as an active participant in shaping the built environment.
At the heart of the exhibition is 'Terrarium,' an installation by Illi, which is composed of nearly 1,000 soil tiles gathered from various Philippine landscapes.
According to a press release, Terrarium is the culmination of Illi's months of research, collaboration, and site-specific experimentation across the Philippines and beyond.

The Philippine Pavilion has welcomed about 600,000 visitors. Ambassador Haneda announced that the expo continues to welcome large crowds every day. 'The Conjuring: Last Rites' trailer brings back a demon from Ed and Lorraine Warren's past
Things are getting real terrifying for Ed and Lorraine Warren in the upcoming film "The Conjuring: Last Rites." The official trailer released on Friday takes us to Pennsylvania 1986, where a family of eight reported an "evil presence" in their house. Real-life paranormal investigator Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, come in to investigate. "There's an evil here," Lorraine tells her husband. "Something I've felt before." She then says that the presence in the house is a demon. "It's the first one we've ever encountered. We were young, we were scared, we ran away." A message written on a wall is shown to read: "Miss me?" The trailer also shows flashes of Lorraine terrorized and bloody. "Discover why this case ended it all," the trailer says. "The Conjuring: Last Rites" is the fourth and final Conjuring film centered around the Warrens. It it set for release on September 5. The first "The Conjuring" movie was released in 2013. Chappell Roan's ballad 'The Subway' finally released on streaming platforms
After a year, "The Subway" is finally here! Chappell Roan has been teasing the single for over a year, first performing it at the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City in 2024. The "Good Luck, Babe!" hitmaker released the studio version of the track on Friday, her third single since her debut album "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess." On Instagram, Chappell thanked fans for waiting until the song was ready. "I'm very proud of this song & what a journey she has been on," she wrote. Obviously not knowing this really chaotic year would follow the [Governors Ball] performance, it didn't really leave me the time to build the world the song deserved. But finally we are here," she added. She said it was worth it to "make sure everything was absolutely right." The release of "The Subway" comes after 'The Giver,' which came out in March.
