Monty Python legend hospitalised for second time in three days
The 82-year-old actor spoke out on Instagram, praising staff for their 'kindness and help.' This week's repeat admission comes as Idle himself suspects an attack of Gastroenteritis – a nasty bug inflaming both stomach and intestines, typically induced by a viral or bacterial intrusion. The comic took to social media with words of gratitude for the team at Los Angeles' renowned Cedars-Sinai medical facility.
Writing to fans on Monday (16.05. 25), Eric expressed: "So I'd like to thank all the doctors nurses and staff in the Cedars GI ward for their kindness and help to me today. The second time in three days. I think I'm suffering from Gastroenteritis. I love you people."
Idle has previously opened up about his brush with mortality. Last year, he frankly confessed that he "shouldn't be alive".
He surprised fans when he disclosed a secret battle with pancreatic cancer back in 2019, revealing his operation and the immense fortune he felt at having the disease spotted early. Now relishing "every moment" of life, the 82 year old entertainer acknowledged the profound impact his health scare had during a candid interview with The Times newspaper.
The revelation came in response to being probed how his cancer experience altered him, to which he replied: "Oh, I shouldn't be alive. I'm a lucky b****** and I enjoy every moment."
Interestingly, his initial reaction to the ominous diagnosis was one of disbelief, mistaking his consultant's solemn news for humour due to a coincidental creative project focused on mortality he was working on at the time.
He recounted the misunderstanding: "I had been working on a project called 'Death: The Musical' and I asked my doctor which type of cancer I could use to finish off one of my characters. He said, 'Pancreatic cancer, it can finish people off in three weeks.'".
Fast forward ten years and following some routine check-ups, it was a fateful blood test result in the hands of that same medic that raised red flags.
The British-born comedian shared a startling reaction to devastating news: "He said, 'Pancreatic cancer' and I burst out laughing because I thought he must be joking."

Newport's Riverfront Theatre hosts Windrush celebration
The free event honoured the Windrush Generation through music, dance, storytelling, and community connection, bringing together people from across the globe in a joyful tribute to heritage and resilience. The afternoon was packed with live performances, cultural exhibits, Caribbean and Asian cuisine, and interactive workshops. Local charities such as Newport's AGE ALIVE were also present, highlighting the ongoing contributions of grassroots organisations to the city's diverse communities. Among VIP guests were two remarkable Windrush elders: Roy Mackpenfield Grant BEM and Vernesta Cyril OBE, whose stories embody perseverance and service. Roy Grant, a retired Jamaican-born engineer and author, shared his journey from hardship to innovation. After arriving in the UK, he faced racism and isolation, recalling the voyage as 'horrible, wet, cold and miserable,' worsened by seasickness and unfamiliar conditions. Yet he rose to become Newport's first Black production manager, pioneering carpet-cutting technology and later writing several books. Titles such as Patchwork Culture explore his experiences and the cultural ties between Jamaica and Wales. Vernesta Cyril OBE, born in St Lucia, migrated to the UK in 1962 with a dream of becoming a nurse. She trained at Royal Gwent and St Woolos Hospitals, serving for over 40 years as a midwife, earning the title Midwife of the Year in 2006 and an OBE in 1999 for her work in community relations. Vernesta recounted her journey with warmth, remembering the excitement of leaving St Lucia and the camaraderie among fellow Caribbeans aboard the ship: 'The worst part was the launch that took us to the ship,' she said, 'because the harbour was too shallow for that big boat.' Her career touched thousands of lives, and she shared a touching anecdote about actor Michael Sheen, who publicly revealed that Vernesta had delivered him at Royal Gwent Hospital, a surprise to Vernesta. Just weeks earlier, Vernesta represented the Windrush Generation at the Pride of Britain Awards, where they were honoured with the Outstanding Contribution award for their immeasurable impact on British life. From 1948 to 1971, over 500,000 Caribbean people came to the UK, bringing with them skills and determination that helped shape Britain's vibrant culture. As the music played and stories were shared, the Riverfront celebration reminded all in attendance that the Windrush legacy is not just history, it's a living, breathing part of Newport's identity.

Couple slammed for 'embarrassing' gender reveal, as ‘self centred' dad-to-be ‘makes the whole thing about him'
The pair are expecting another daughter in a matter of weeks SHOW OFF Couple slammed for 'embarrassing' gender reveal, as 'self centred' dad-to-be 'makes the whole thing about him' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A COUPLE have been slammed for their "embarrassing" gender reveal, which centred almost entirely around the dad-to-be. A video of the big reveal was shared by fitness pro Shai Ross on his Instagram, but was changed to black and white at the last second to keep his and his wife's baby's gender a secret. He then bought it back down on the back of his neck and shoulders, before jumping onto a box and swinging the massive bar around his back. Once he'd done that, he prepared to do a back somersault. After getting himself ready for the daring move, Shai jumped into it, turning impressively in the air. As he landed, his feet hit a large mat on the floor, which then exploded with smoke and confetti. While they'd edited the video to conceal their baby's gender at first, the pair have since revealed they're having a baby girl - so the smoke and confetti were pink. And despite their sheer joy over the gender reveal, the couple quickly found themselves targeted by people online, who questioned why Shai was virtually the only one seen in the video. His wife made a blink and you'll miss it appearance at the end of the clip, as she and Shai hugged. And the comments section of the Instagram post was immediately flooded with messages from angry viewers, with one writing: "This is so embarrassing!" "Why is something so special all about him and not the woman who's actually carrying the child?" another questioned. Love Island Shaughna Phillips reveals unborn baby's gender in emotional video with jailbird boyfriend out on day release "Bro is not the main character," a third raged. "Self centered reveal," someone else said. "Bro made this whole thing about him," another sighed. And as someone else called it "f**king cringe", another agreed, adding that it was "the corniest s**t ever". However, there were those who defended Shai for the gender reveal, with one writing: "Oh all are can do whatever he wants!" "Why are people hating? Men don't have to put in any work to make the baby so let him put some effort in to announce it!" another grinned. What's the Deal with Gender Reveals & Why is Everyone Having Them?
