Big Update in Minnesota Timberwolves, Kevin Durant Trade Rumors
Big Update in Minnesota Timberwolves, Kevin Durant Trade Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Phoenix Suns are in the midst of a critical offseason. After a 36-46 season, they missed out on a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament, finishing as the No. 11 seed in the Western Conference. As a result, they fired head coach Mike Budenholzer.

That proved not to be the only change they would make, as the Suns announced they would be moving James Jones into a senior advisory role with Brian Gregory taking over. Gregory and owner Mat Ishbia's relationship goes back to Ishbia's playing days at Michigan State.
Big update in Minnesota Timberwolves, Kevin Durant trade rumors
It remains to be seen how soon the Suns will look to trade Durant. It will likely be in the next two weeks, as the NBA Draft takes place on Wednesday, June 25. If the deal were to involve any draft picks, they'd likely want it for the upcoming draft rather than a year out.
Possible suitors for Durant have included the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks. Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic provided a massive update regarding a possible trade with one of those teams.

"The Timberwolves have had 'discussions' about a Kevin Durant trade but 'nothing is close,'" said Krawczynski.
Durant and Anthony Edwards have a friendship after the two participated in the Olympics for Team USA this past summer. Edwards views Durant as a sort of big brother and would likely love having Durant beside him as the Timberwolves aim to take the next step after falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals.
It remains to be seen exactly what the Timberwolves would be willing to part with for Durant, but adding a player of Durant's caliber, even at this stage of his career, could be a move that puts them over the top and allows Phoenix to regain some future assets.

Top Trade Destinations for Ja Morant After Desmond Bane Deal
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The NBA world was sent into a shockwave on Sunday when the Memphis Grizzlies decided to trade their starting guard, Desmond Bane, to the Orlando Magic in a deal and price that came as a surprise to many. The Grizzlies traded Bane to the Magic, and in exchange, Orlando received a major haul: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four unprotected first-round picks, and a first-round pick swap. Many were shocked by the trade, but immediately, people turned their attention to the future of Ja Morant in Memphis. It is clear as day that the Bane trade is an inch closer to rebuilding for Memphis. If that is indeed the case, Morant's days in Tennessee are numbered. With that likely being the case, Morant could have a new home this summer. Here are the top landing spots for the two-time All-Star. Photo byToronto Raptors The Raptors are a team that possesses a substantial collection of trade assets. For starters, they have high draft picks and salary cap flexibility. Additionally, they have an array of players whom they could include in a potential trade package for Morant. More importantly, the Raptors could use a point guard. Toronto has struggled to find its groove after its 2019 title, and a potential addition of Morant could help it pivot toward that direction. Miami Heat A potential trade sending Morant to Miami is undoubtedly one of the more intriguing possibilities. The Heat have found themselves stuck in neutral, and after a rough season, it might be time to reignite their competitive fire — something we've come to expect from them over the last 15 years. Miami remains a premier destination for star talent, and while some might raise concerns about Morant's fit in a city like that, the Heat could put together a compelling package for the 25-year-old guard. Sacramento Kings The Kings are a team that has been vocal about acquiring a point guard, and Morant fits that bill. Sacramento will be one of the few teams looking for a point guard. If Morant indeed becomes available, look for the Kings to agree to pursue him. Sacramento may not have the best draft capital in a potential trade, but they have assets like Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Malik Monk that could be used in a trade for Morant. Katie Ledecky gives Stanford commencement keynote address, tells 2012 Olympic story
Katie Ledecky returned to Stanford, her alma mater, to give a 21-minute keynote address at the commencement for the university's largest graduating class in history. Ledecky, 28, noted she is no more than seven years older than the graduates: 1,110 earning doctoral degrees, 2,655 master's degrees and 2,140 bachelor's degrees. 'I can tell you everything you need to know about freestyle and flip turns,' she said. 'I cannot tell you everything you need to know about life.' Ledecky graduated from Stanford in 2020 with a major in psychology and a minor in political science. In her speech, she reflected on her first Olympics in London in 2012, when she was the youngest U.S. athlete across all sports at age 15. She remembered then-Prince William and Princess Kate being in the crowd for the 800m freestyle final. She remembered being in a lane next to the defending Olympic gold medalist and home favorite Rebecca Adlington of Great Britain. 'So I know the crowd will be chanting Bec-ky, Bec-ky,' she said. 'I had programmed myself to think they are shouting Le-deck-y, Le-deck-y.' Ledecky mentioned that coaches advised her not to go out too fast. Yet she took the lead from the start. 'About midway through the race, I remember thinking, where is everybody,' she said. 'There's a brief second where I wonder if I'm doing something wrong, like I've gone out too fast. Then I tell myself, just keep going. And I did. I won by over four seconds.' The anecdote was part of Ledecky's theme: how to go the distance in whatever field the graduates choose. 'You don't have to win the race,' said Ledecky, who estimated she has swum 26,000 miles in her life to set up about 5 1/2 miles of Olympic finals. 'You just need to win your race. And winning your race means falling in love with the process. Fall in love with the process, not the podium.' She ended her speech by saying, 'Take your mark, and go out there and make your mark.' Jaden McDaniels Is Off-Limits In A Potential Kevin Durant Trade
Jaden McDaniels Is Off-Limits In A Potential Kevin Durant Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Minnesota Timberwolves are still involved in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes. While Durant has already picked the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, and San Antonio Spurs, according to ESPN insider Shams Charania's sources, the Timberwolves are still a dark horse. Advertisement Some reports have stated the Timberwolves are quite involved in the trade discussions. However, they are unwilling to put Jaden McDaniels in any trade package, as they see him as a crucial part of their long-term future. Credit: Joe Camporeale-Imagn Images The Timberwolves would love to get Durant on the roster because he could be a game-changer. Anthony Edwards is their superstar player, but the team must be aware that they could give up too much for Durant. That is where McDaniels comes into the picture. He is one of the most important players and building blocks, so he is untouchable. McDaniels is a young two-way star for the long-term future, and team president Tim Connelly won't be willing to give that up. Related: Kevin Durant To The Timberwolves Is Topping Zach Lowe's "Buzz" Rankings The Risk Is Too High For Trading McDaniels When talking about the Timberwolves' players, two stand out as the most important ones. Those are Edwards and McDaniels, who coincidentally joined the Timberwolves in the same year in 2020. Advertisement McDaniels is the team's best perimeter defender, but he is versatile enough to play as a rim protector. His contributions are regularly overlooked because he does not have gaudy numbers, but he is vital to Chris Finch's system. That's why it's understandable that the Timberwolves are unwilling to put him in any trade package. Even if Durant is part of the trade package, Minnesota will want to have McDaniels due to his overall impact. "The Wolves are not including Jaden McDaniels in any KD trade talks, per team sources, which means that one of Randle or Rudy Gobert would have to be the primary salary eater in the deal," The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski said about the potential trade. "It does not appear that Phoenix wants to tear down and rebuild as part of this trade. Randle and Gobert both figured prominently in Minnesota's run to the conference finals last season." Durant's Interest Is Still Up In The Air According To Conflicting Reports Shams Charania's report for ESPN discusses how Houston, Miami, and San Antonio are his only preferred destinations. However, The Athletic's report says that his preference won't factor much into the trade. His contract lacks the no-trade clause that his teammate Bradley Beal has on his, so Durant can't control where he goes. Durant would want to join those three teams based on the contract extension he could get from them. Considering he is going to be 37 when the 2025-26 season rolls around, that will be his final NBA deal. Advertisement With that being said, the Wolves might present an appealing package for the Suns. Phoenix is not ready for a non-post-season campaign, as they will want immediate contributors. That leaves the potential of Randle, Gobert, and Donte DiVincenzo to be part of the trade. McDaniels will be on the Timberwolves, and if Durant joins them, they will have one of the most fearsome starting lineups in the league with the length and offensive firepower to boot.
