What we know
At the Trinity Overlook in West Dallas, there's a growing memorial for 17-year-old Angela Nino-Herrera, a Dallas ISD senior who was killed in a shooting over the weekend.
Nino-Herrera's family confirmed to Fox 4 the Hillcrest High School senior was shot and killed early Sunday morning.
Dallas Police showed up at a mother's door on Sunday after her daughter didn't come home. Officers responded to a parking lot near Commerce Street and Beckley just after 4 am.
The witness, 19-year-old Rena Garcia, didn't know Nino-Herrera personally but tells Fox 4 nearly 50 people gathered at the Trinity Outlook the morning of the shooting.
Garcia says she noticed a fight taking place feet away, just before the shooting began.
"They started shooting. They drove down the street and just kept shooting out of the door, out of the window of the car," said Garcia. "It was multiple guns. Multiple people just shooting. Just anyone and everything they could see. It was terrible."
One of the bullets hit Nino-Herrera, who later died at the hospital.
On Wednesday, family and friends had a balloon release in the teenager's honor.
What they're saying
Nino-Herrera's older sister, Aileen Marie Nino, pleads for the violence to stop.
"It was people being stupid, with guns…" said Marie Nino. "It wasn't right. That is the least my sister deserves,"
"She had plans. She had hopes. She had dreams," said the victim's mother, Marcela Nino.
What's next
That witness told police the suspect vehicle was a black Dodge Charger.
Dallas police did not provide clear answers to FOX 4's questions about potential suspect information or the circumstances that led to the shooting, only saying the investigation is "ongoing."

FHP searching for suspects after high-speed crash, chase on I-95

The Brief Three suspects fled after a suspected street race and crash. No injuries were reported, but one motorist's vehicle was hit. Brevard deputies and FHP deployed K-9 and air units in the search. VIERA, Fla. - Florida Highway Patrol troopers are searching for multiple suspects who fled on foot after a high-speed crash on Interstate 95 in Brevard County. What we know The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a suspected street racing incident that led to a crash on I-95 in Brevard County. The crash occurred near State Road 520 in Cocoa. The three occupants fled the vehicle on foot and remain at large. What we don't know Authorities have not released the identities of the suspects or confirmed whether the vehicle was stolen. It is also unclear whether any surveillance or dashcam footage may help in identifying those involved. The backstory The crash happened after the vehicle in question was allegedly racing near Exit 191 in Viera. Witness accounts and police reports suggest the car was traveling at high speeds before hitting another vehicle and coming to a stop. Brevard County deputies and FHP responded swiftly, deploying air and K-9 units. What they're saying The incident began near Exit 191 in Viera and ended roughly 10 miles north at State Road 520 in Cocoa. Investigators say the suspects had been racing on the highway before their car crashed, prompting all three occupants to run from the scene. A woman identified only as Sabrina said her vehicle was sideswiped by the Charger during the crash. "All of a sudden, this Dodge Charger-looking car just smashed into the side of my car, took out the whole side front end," she said. "I'm blown away right now. I'm in shock." She described a heavy law enforcement presence immediately following the crash. "They're searching for them, running around with ARs and everything," she said. The Brevard County Sheriff's Office responded with patrol deputies, K-9 units, and an aviation team to assist FHP. "Our deputies responded along with our K9s and our aviation unit," said sheriff's spokesperson Tod Goodyear. Two sheriff's office patrol vehicles were damaged while responding to the scene. No injuries were reported. "Luckily, in this case, there were no accidents on I-95 involved in this pursuit," Goodyear said. "The only accident was the vehicle itself." New details in fatal Union Avenue wreck: alleged drunk driver was underage

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — 17 News has long examined a signature issue we call Kern's Sober Reality. The reality is that too many people still drink and drive — often with deadly consequences. The latest case in point, a fiery crash Tuesday night in central Bakersfield that left one person dead and two others seriously injured. The collision was caught on camera just after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night, at the intersection of Union and East California avenues. A white BMW headed northbound on Union Avenue ran a red light and crashed into a Dodge Charger that was headed westbound on East California on a green light. The crash left the 27-year-old driver of the Charger dead. BPD confirmed with 17 News all three involved were men — the driver of the BMW — who was moderately injured — is 19; the passenger — in unstable condition — is 20. Detectives said both remain in the hospital. 'The driver of the Dodge was pinned inside the vehicle, so officers would've had to wait for fire department personnel to arrive,' said Sgt. Joshua Deutinger, with the BPD traffic division. The BMW crashed into the fence next to San Joaquin Tractor Company, narrowly missing the business, and caught fire. First responders and passerbys rushed to distance them from the car. 'With how north they came from the intersection and the separation of those cars, it definitely speaks to the speed that was involved in the collision,' Sgt. Deutinger noted. In addition to speeding, underage drinking and driving under the influence is suspected by the 19-year-old in the BMW. 1 arrested on Chester Lane after barricaded subject forces SWAT callout: police The sergeant said toxicology results aren't yet available. He also said the deceased driver of the Charger likely was not speeding, nor driving impaired. The speed limit out is 40 miles-per-hour in the area of the wreck. An employee told 17 News speeding and running red lights in this area is not uncommon. 'Usually in that intersection, if there is a major injury crash, a lot of times, speed does have to do with that,' the sergeant said. Chris Hagan with the local law firm, Chain Cohn Clark agreed. 'Union [Avenue] is heavily travelled by pedestrians…and so, we do see a lot of automobiles versus pedestrian fatals on Union,' said Hagan. Hagan detailed that in 2024, there were 37 DUI-related deaths and 731 DUI-related injuries in Kern County. 'In Kern County, we have the highest arrest record in the nation for drivers who are under the influence,' Hagan said of the local severity of driving impaired. 'You are more likely to be involved in a DUI collision in Kern County as compared to virtually any other city or any other county in the nation.' Negotiations ongoing in Candie Springer case, hearing postponed 2 weeks

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Negotiations are continuing in the case of a Bakersfield woman who's facing a felony charge in connection with a deadly crash that occurred after she allowed her unlicensed teen son to drive her Dodge Charger. David A. Torres, defense attorney for Candie Springer, said in court Wednesday he submitted a mitigation packet to prosecutors and they need two weeks to review it. Judge John W. Lua set the next hearing for June 25. Springer, who was not present Wednesday, was ordered to appear. A mitigation packet is intended to provide a complete picture of the defendant and can include school and work history, character letters and information on prior minimal or lack of a criminal record. Springer, 47, has no prior cases listed against her in Kern County. She's charged with felony child cruelty and a misdemeanor count of allowing an unlicensed person to operate a motor vehicle. In 2023, Springer let her then-15-year-old son take her car for what she thought would be a quick trip to the market. Jace Springer instead picked up friends, sped on city streets and led police on a chase that ended with him crashing into a tree. A passenger died. Jace Springer accepted a plea agreement in juvenile court. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
