Cristopher Sánchez has been taking the ball every fifth day and giving the Philadelphia Phillies good results. Doing so is a lot simpler than it sounds, but just three months into the four-year extension he signed last June, Sánchez is making that deal look like a bargain.

That continued Thursday night, when Sánchez threw eight innings of one-run ball, limiting the Miami Marlins to five hits while striking out four and walking none. It was the first time all season that a Philly starter recorded an out in the eighth inning.
It was also Sánchez's fourth straight quality start and the 10th time he's limited an opponent to two runs or fewer over five-plus innings. His ERA now sits at 2.87, becoming the fourth Philly starter to lower it below 3.
After the game, he described his mindset on wanting to go deep into starts:
"That's always my goal," Sánchez said on the NBC Sports Philadelphia postgame show. "To stay in the game as long as I can and give a chance to my team to focus on the offensive end."

"If you ask any starter, they're going to say the same... every single starter wants to go seven, eight, or even a complete game every single time that they're on the mound."

Sánchez had a chance to go the distance in this one, as he wrapped up the eighth at 91 pitches. But manager Rob Thomson elected to send in Orion Kerkering for the last three outs. He was successful in securing the save.
"I talked with him, and I think he was ready to come out," Thomson said. "He was a little bit gassed. But if I had asked him to go out (for the ninth), he would have."

Jamal Musiala injured again for Bayern Munich at Club World Cup
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Star German midfielder Jamal Musiala went off injured only 25 minutes after entering Friday night's Club World Cup match for Bayern Munich and was substituted by national team veteran Thomas Müller in the 82nd minute. Musiala came on in the 57th minute against Boca Juniors. The nature of his injury wasn't immediately known. The 22 year-old had been recovering from a torn hamstring during the Bundesliga season. Musiala had not played since April and returned to Bayern training on May 7.
