Ishan Kishan, Akash Deep To Miss East Zone's Duleep Trophy Quarterfinal Clash; Abhimanyu Easwaran To Lead
Though Kishan has been at BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, it is understood that he has been advised more rest, keeping in mind that India 'A' are also due to host Australia 'A' for two four-day games and three 50-over games next month.
In Kishan's absence, Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran, who didn't get a game on India's five-match Test tour of England, will captain East Zone while all-rounder Riyan Parag will serve as the side's vice-captain.
Odisha's Aashirwad Swain comes in as Kishan's replacement in the squad, while Jharkhand's Kumar Kushagra will become the first-choice wicketkeeper-batter. East Zone will also be without the services of Akash, who has been advised to rest.
IANS understands that the exact nature of Akash's injury remains a mystery. However, a source claimed he is dealing with a back-related issue and has been subsequently advised to rest. Akash had missed the fourth Test against in Manchester due to a groin niggle.
In all, he claimed 13 wickets in three matches on the England tour, including a match-winning 10-wicket haul in Birmingham. Assam's Mukhtar Hussain has been drafted into the East Zone squad as Akash's replacement.
East Zone will open their campaign against the Shubman Gill-led North Zone in the Duleep Trophy quarterfinal starting on August 28 at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) grounds in Bengaluru.

The final 15 member squad announced yesterday by BCCI also saw the likes of Shreyas Iyer not making the cut. Iyer, who had scored 604 runs at a strike rate of 175.07 including six half-centuries in IPL this year, had led Punjab Kings to this year's final. Iyer, who earlier had made a return to the Indian ODI side in the Champions Trophy, had last played for India in T20I format in 2023 during the India Australia T20I series. Singh believes the Indian team management could have made a spot for Iyer considering his fine T20 recent form. 'I had hoped he (Shreyas Iyer) would get a place in the team. He scored a lot of runs, played in the IPL final, and was in very good form. I thought his name could have been there. As for whose spot he would take, you have to see whose place it would have been. When someone has to be included or left out, a spot is made. But I did not see Shreyas Iyer's name there, which surprised me a little,' Singh said. Earlier, former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin too had put a case for inclusion of Iyer and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Indian team for Asia Cup and criticised the move. 'I'll say if I am (Yashasvi) Jaiswal or Shreyas (Iyer), now my chance is gone, so from the next time if a risk has to be taken, I won't. I'll play for myself because I need to secure my place.
