Ishan Kishan, Akash Deep To Miss East Zone's Duleep Trophy Quarterfinal Clash; Abhimanyu Easwaran To Lead
Though Kishan has been at BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, it is understood that he has been advised more rest, keeping in mind that India 'A' are also due to host Australia 'A' for two four-day games and three 50-over games next month.
In Kishan's absence, Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran, who didn't get a game on India's five-match Test tour of England, will captain East Zone while all-rounder Riyan Parag will serve as the side's vice-captain.
Odisha's Aashirwad Swain comes in as Kishan's replacement in the squad, while Jharkhand's Kumar Kushagra will become the first-choice wicketkeeper-batter. East Zone will also be without the services of Akash, who has been advised to rest.

‘I feel that the 'X-factor' that Siraj brings might be somewhat missed…' Harbhajan Singh wanted Mohammed Siraj in Asia Cup squad
Being the highest wicket-taker with 23 wickets in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj broke a number of records during the five Test series. The 31-year-old not only matched Jasprit Bumrah's tally of 23 wickets in a Test series taken in 2021-2022 series against England but also became the first opposition bowler after Shane Warne in 2005 to take nine wickets or more at The Oval with his nine-wicket haul in the final Test at The Oval. While Siraj, who plays for Gujarat Titans in IPL, who was part of Indian T20 World Cup winning team last year, had last played a T20I for India in July 2024 and missed on a spot in Indian T20I team for Asia Cup, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh believes the Indian team management missed a trick and the team could miss the 'X-factor' which Siraj brings to the team. 'I feel that (Mohammed) Siraj's name should have been included as well. Siraj bowled very well in the recent series. Yes, he did a lot of bowling in England, but he also got adequate rest. So he could have been included. If he had been taken, the team would have looked even stronger. The bowling unit would have seemed stronger. I feel that the 'X-factor' that Siraj brings might be somewhat missed,' Harbhajan Singh said on his Youtube channel. The final 15 member squad announced yesterday by BCCI also saw the likes of Shreyas Iyer not making the cut. Iyer, who had scored 604 runs at a strike rate of 175.07 including six half-centuries in IPL this year, had led Punjab Kings to this year's final. Iyer, who earlier had made a return to the Indian ODI side in the Champions Trophy, had last played for India in T20I format in 2023 during the India Australia T20I series. Singh believes the Indian team management could have made a spot for Iyer considering his fine T20 recent form. 'I had hoped he (Shreyas Iyer) would get a place in the team. He scored a lot of runs, played in the IPL final, and was in very good form. I thought his name could have been there. As for whose spot he would take, you have to see whose place it would have been. When someone has to be included or left out, a spot is made. But I did not see Shreyas Iyer's name there, which surprised me a little,' Singh said. Earlier, former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin too had put a case for inclusion of Iyer and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Indian team for Asia Cup and criticised the move. 'I'll say if I am (Yashasvi) Jaiswal or Shreyas (Iyer), now my chance is gone, so from the next time if a risk has to be taken, I won't. I'll play for myself because I need to secure my place. It's unfortunate you'll have to play for that in T20s,' Ashwin said on his Youtube channel Ash ki Baat.

Mohammad Kaif on making Shubman Gill vice-captain for Asia Cup 2025: ‘I hope Axar Patel was informed…did no wrong so he deserves an explanation'
All-rounder Axar Patel, who was the vice-captain before the Asia Cup, has been removed from the designation, and Shubman Gill, who has not been a part of the T20I sides in recent times, has been given the responsibility. Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif believes that Axar needs an explanation. 'I hope Axar Patel was informed about his removal from vice-captaincy in advance and he didn't come to know about it from the press conference. Axar did no wrong so he deserves an explanation. @akshar2026,' Kaif wrote on X (Formerly known as Twitter) The BCCI on Tuesday announced the Indian squad for the Asia Cup, bringing an end to months-long speculation with Suryakumar Yadav set to lead the team while Gill made his way back into the T20I setup as his deputy. Gill returned to the shortest format for the national team since June 2024. The India Test captain recently guided the team in against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy where they tied the series 2-2. Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal, however, missed out while Kuldeep Yadav came back into the team after missing the England T20I series at the beginning of the year. Big-hitter Rinku Singh as well as pace star Jasprit Bumrah was also included. However, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that this won't be the final selection for the T20 World Cup 2026. 'We have had a nice break…We are trying to look after him: Agarkar said on Bumrah's workload management. Talking about Jaiswal, who was a standby, Agarkar said, 'he will have to wait.' 'We have lovely players around with amazing skills which makes my job easier,' Surya said. Surya Kumar Yadav (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson (WK), Harshit Rana, Rinku Singh Standbys: Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

'They have complained about three people. One is Gautam Gambhir…': Dinesh Karthik lifts lid on India vs England letters
In a light-hearted exchange during the broadcast of The Hundred, former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik revealed that UK fans had written complaints to broadcasters about India head coach Gautam Gambhir not smiling throughout the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between India and England. India head coach Gautam Gambhir(AP) Speaking to Trent Rockets coach Andy Flower after their seven-wicket win over Manchester Originals at Trent Bridge, Karthik jokingly said, 'All of the UK has complained and tweeted about it, written to SKY Sports... Three people over the summer, they haven't found a way to get them to smile... One is Gautam Gambhir, two is Nasser Hussain in the commentary box and the third person is you. Why aren't people able to see you smiling when you wear the coach's hat in that dugout?" Flower, who was previously England's head coach and is currently leading the Rockets in The Hundred, responded with a chuckle: 'DK, people misunderstand me completely, you know that for sure.' 'I surely do,' replied Karthik even as former England pacer Dominic Cork could not control his laughter. Gambhir, known for his intensity on the field, maintained a stern expression through the high-stakes Test series, prompting fans in the UK to take notice. While his serious demeanour is typical during matches, those familiar with the Indian dressing room know that the former opener does have a lighter side that often surfaces behind closed doors. Gambhir was under a lot of presure after India lost back-to-back Test series against New Zealand (at home) and Australia (away) but under new captain Shubman Gill, a relatively inexperienced Indian side put up a stellar show against England to draw the five-match series 2-2. Karthik and Flower, who were part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's support staff during their triumphant IPL 2025 campaign, share a strong rapport. The exchange was a continuation of that camaraderie, giving fans a rare glimpse into the personalities behind the coaching roles. Despite the public perception of being stoic, Gambhir has often engaged in playful banter with players and support staff. However, during the intense India-England series, the high-pressure environment left little room for light moments on camera. Former England captain Nasser Hussain, the third name on Karthik's list added to the trio of 'serious faces' that caught fans' attention during the English summer.
