The Tu dress our fashion editor says will 'go with everything' - and other stylish items from Sainsbury's new collection

Daily Mail29-04-2025

Hold on to your shopping trolleys – Tu at Sainsbury's has launched its summer clothing collection, and there are quite a few pieces that wouldn't look out of place much pricier fashion ranges.
From chic co-ords in on-trend butter yellow, to flattering dresses that could be dressed up or down according to the occasion, there's plenty to love in Tu's latest drop. The details make them look more expensive; from elegant tortoiseshell-effect buttons to linen-blend fabrics. The new collection also includes accessories, with a range of affordable shoes and bags.
You magazine's fashion bookings editor Lila Flint Roberts is among the fans of the brand, and has shared with us the pieces she'll be snapping up from the Tu at Sainsbury's supermarket range this spring, plus her thoughts on each piece...
The goes-with-everything dress
£22.50 Shop
'I have this in khaki from last year, and it's the perfect do it all dress. I love the white and the fun Pepto-Bismol pink shade that Sainsbury's has brought out this year.'
The waistcoat £26
Shop
'This linen co-ord absolutely screams high-end. I'd wear this outfit either for work, or on a fun city break with the girls. Price-wise, it comes in at under £50 for both pieces which is a real steal – especially for the high percentage of linen in the fabric composition.'
The perfect summer trousers
£20 Shop
'Worn as a co-ord, I think this outfit might be little too much like pyjamas. But the trousers alone are so fun – striped poplin trousers were huge last year and I imagine they will still be trending this year. I love Tu's green version.'
'Fisherman sandals are quite a divisive trend, but if you're a fan then you'll love Tu's faux suede iteration here. They're a brilliant summer shoe – more practical than a flip flop but not as claustrophobic as a trainer.'
'These heeled mules will carry you through all of your weddings/birthdays/batmitzvahs this summer.'

Not only is there so much choice out there, but some dresses can cost a fortune. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up And that's an added cost on top of actually attending the wedding itself. Luckily the high street is full of options that don't have to break the bank and will still make you look and feel amazing. From feathered one shouldered gowns, to tummy flattering ruching and dresses to accommodate a fuller bust, Deputy Fashion Editor Abby McHale has scoured the shops to bring you ten of the best dresses all for under £50. Tu at Sainsbury's 10 Dress, £28, Tu at Sainsbury's Credit: This red crochet dress from Tu at Sainsbury's is a steal at just £28. George at Asda 10 Dress, £32, George at Asda Credit: Can you believe this dress is from the supermarket? And just £32. Part of George at Asda's collection with Billie Faiers, this orange satin halterneck dress is floor length with a bow detail at the neck. Not only will this make you look super expensive, but totally hits the brief for a chic wedding guest dress. New Look 10 Dress, £32.99, New Look Credit: Empire line dresses are super flattering and look great on those with a fuller bust. Vogue Williams shows off her wedding outfit Not only does this New Look dress plunge into a v-neckline, but the lining underneath the bust will hold shape, before flowing over the rest of your body. This pretty check floral pattern is soft and romantic, plus it has a cut out detail at the back, but it's high enough that you can still wear a bra - result. H&M 10 Dress, £22.99, H&M Credit: Ruching is a great technique that looks great and flatters all, especially in areas you may feel more self conscious of. This H&M dress keeps you cinched in at the waist with its stretchy fabric, the asymmetric element gives Grecian vibes with the gold clasp on the shoulder making this dress look a lot more expensive than its £22.99 price tag. This is certainly a dress that you'd be comfortable in all day long. Zara 10 Dress, £45.99, Zara Credit: Nothing screams glam quite like a one shouldered cape dress with a feathered cuff. And for under £50 - practically unheard of. This dress from Zara really brings the wow factor and if you're after something that is lightweight, airy and most importantly comfortable for the day, then this ticks all the boxes. Very 10 Dress, £25, Very Credit: Pale yellow is one of the big colours for the season, so why not hop on board the trend for just £25. The twist front around the bust area makes this a great option for everyone no matter what size you are and the tie straps also make a nice additional detail. The dress is made from a stretchy ribbed fabric, meaning it won't cling where you don't want it to. River Island 10 Dress, £46, River Island Credit: Wrap style dresses are always a fail safe flattering option for all and this dress from River Island is a new take on the look. The fabric gathers together at one side, giving the illusion of a wrap dress and the bardot sleeves are also a great way of showing your decolletage and having some of your arm covered if you wish. Next 10 Dress, £36, Next Credit: This puff sleeve floral dress from Next is a great option for a wedding. As well as the classic navy floral pattern it also comes in a polka dot and a red. The puff sleeves and empire line detail elevate the dress and also make it flattering at the same time. A great way to decide what colours to accessorise with is to pick them out from the dress and with plenty of other colours in this look you'll be spoilt for choice. F&F at Tesco 10 Dress, £29.50, F&F at Tesco Credit: F&F at Tesco has not only launched online recently, meaning you no longer can only shop in store, but it's new rage of occasion wear will make you feel like a million dollars. This particular dress is just £29.50, with ruffle capped sleeves and that empire line cut. The small polka dot print is also bang on trend. Boohoo 10 Dress, £35, Boohoo Credit: If you're looking for a long sleeve maxi dress then this one from Boohoo could be for you. Not only is it a fun vibrant colour perfect for summer, but the elasticated waist panel in the middle makes this dress extra comfy and gives you some wiggle room. Having the elastic in the middle then means the dress fans out and flows over the body to create a lovely shape.

Bargain US supermarket Walmart became a social media sensation when its £60 dupe of Hermès' Birkin bag, dubbed the Wirkin, went viral. Influencer @styledbykristi gushed: "Eighty dollars (£60), you can pretend that you got a Birkin. I mean, everyone will probably know it's not, because who the hell has the money to spend on the real Birkin? Not me.' Me neither. And why bother? I would never spend that on a designer bag (although if someone wants to buy one for me, that's a different story). Plus, if I splashed that much, I'd feel I was being ripped off... We've all been told how the leading brands use the finest leather, thread, dyes and craftsmanship in the world. But all that is inflated by fashion houses to create the desired illusion of exclusivity. Just last year, Dior came under investigation for paying £44 to assemble a bag that sells for £2,000. Dupes — not to be mistaken for knock-offs that copy everything from the logo to the inside label — are a more practical and all-round sensible way to go. I bought my first when I was 18. It lasted me four years and only broke after I wore it in the shower. And these days, British high streets have plenty of dupes. In the past three years, Marks & Spencer, H&M and Mango have all seen huge spikes in sales thanks to their canny copies. They use the same viral, must-have marketing tactics that pricey brands have. Fashion folk will tell you that you are making an investment and buying a 'heritage piece' and will turn their noses up at a high street equivalent.
