First responders rescue man who jumped on ice in Ipswich
On Saturday, February. 22, around 8:30 p.m., police received a call reporting that a person had jumped from the County Street Bridge.
Upon arrival, crews found a male lying on an ice shelf in the river, conscious and breathing. The male had fallen approximately 16 feet from the bridge onto the ice.
Ipswich Police officers maintained verbal contact with the victim from the bridge while Firefighters Mike Sikora and Keith LeBlanc donned Mustang ice rescue suits. Firefighter Sikora then made his way onto the ice to evaluate the male's condition.
Once in contact with the male, Sikora conducted a primary assessment and moved him away from open water, which was just three feet from where he had landed. He then applied a cervical collar for spinal stabilization. Sikora and LeBlanc were able to successfully remove the male from the ice.
The male was transported to Beverly Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
In a joint statement, Chief Parisi and Chief Nikas said, 'The members of the Ipswich Fire and Police Departments worked together under dangerous, dark, and cold conditions to effect the rescue of this victim. These members are to be commended for their actions in conducting this high-risk, low-frequency operation.'

Dozens of drivers stopped after New Hampshire State Police conduct traffic enforcement
A traffic enforcement initiative by the New Hampshire State Police on Interstate 95 resulted in 35 drivers being stopped for excessive speeding, including two individuals driving over 120 mph. Perez had a 13-month-old child in the car and was charged with reckless operation, endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. He is also scheduled to appear in court on October 16. The penalties for driving at excessive speeds in New Hampshire are significant. Driving at 86 mph or greater can result in a $434 fine and a potential 30-day license suspension. Reckless driving at 100 mph or more carries a minimum fine of $620 and a 60-day license suspension, with penalties set to increase in 2026. The NHSP SEU utilizes advanced technology, including aircraft, to monitor and enforce traffic laws effectively. Their goal is to promote highway safety and reduce crashes on New Hampshire roads. 'As the summer winds down, Troopers ask drivers to slow down, put distractions away and focus on driving,' New Hampshire State Police wrote. 'They want everyone to get to their destination safely. Troopers will continue to work with their partners at the New Hampshire Office of Highway Safety to conduct focused traffic enforcement to reduce speeds, detect impaired driving, prevent serious crashes and ensure the safety of the residents and visitors to the Granite State.' Corvette, Mustang Street Racing Ends In Serious Crash
Read the full story on The Auto Wire A C6 Corvette and S550 Mustang engaged in a street race on a California highway, ending in a serious accident. Fortunately, no innocent bystanders were harmed by the foolishness of the two drivers, but one of them ended up being thrown from his car and the other was thrown into the backseat of a police sports and pony cars were racing each other on northbound SR-99 in Modesto on the afternoon of August 10, says California Highway Patrol, weaving through slower traffic as they tried proving which was faster. Both were going over 100 mph. Behind the wheel of the C6 Corvette was 26-year-old Tyler Azadzoi, who veered onto the dirt and gravel median, to avoid slower cars. That move caused him to lose control of the sports car, which veered right across all the southbound lanes, over the shoulder, and into a chain link fence. That collision caused the 'Vette to roll multiple times onto another road. Because Azadzoi wasn't wearing a seatbelt, he was thrown from the vehicle. He suffered major injuries and was rushed to the hospital. But his 28-year-old passenger who was belted in escaped with minor injuries, reports The Modesto Bee. Even better, the driver of the Mustang, 22-year-old Raul Torres Jr., reportedly stopped briefly where the Corvette crashed, then he took off. Torres fled to his house in Manteca, parking the Mustang in a garage. Because others got the license plate number of the Mustang, CHP showed up at Torres' address, arresting him and impounding his car. He's now facing felony charges for reckless driving proximately causing bodily injury and speed contest causing injury, as well as several lesser criminal charges. The big takeaway here is street racing is dumb. It's even dumber when you don't wear your seatbelt. 400-pound black bear roaming Massachusetts neighborhood, police warn
Police in a northern Massachusetts town are warning residents to be on high alert due to the presence of a large bear. The Townsend Police Department said there have been multiple reported sightings of a 400-pound black bear roaming the area of Mason and Greenville roads in recent days. The most recent sighting was reported by people who were outside grilling around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Police asked residents to take the following safety precautions for at least the next week: Remove all bird feeders Secure and store trash Close all doors In a Facebook post, the department wrote, 'Let's work together to help encourage the bear to move along to a safer place!
