Morocco to host 2nd leg of UAE President's Cup Series for Purebred Arabian Horses
Under the patronage and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, the second leg of the UAE President's Cup Series for Purebred Arabian Horses will take place on Saturday at the Anfa sand racetrack in Casablanca, Morocco.
This race marks a key milestone in the 32nd edition of the prestigious series.
Held as part of the UAE-Moroccan Festival, this special edition of the UAE President's Cup brings together eight competitive races and boasts a total prize fund of €250,000— making it one of the most valuable Arabian horse racing events in Morocco's history.
The President's Cup Series continues to enjoy unwavering support from the UAE leadership, with the vision of elevating the Arabian horse racing industry globally, empowering breeders and owners, and preserving the enduring legacy of the Arabian horse.
The race will feature the participation of 17 horses representing leading Arabian stables from Morocco, North Africa, and Europe.
They will compete over a distance of 2,100 meters in this Group 3 race, open to horses aged four and above.
Among the leading contenders is Buraak, a powerful colt by Mahabb out of Shumoos, trained and owned by Mohamed Daissaoui.
Returning to defend his crown is Ghasham, the pride of Atlas Stud. Fannae Rachid, who won last year's H.M. King Mohammed VI Grand Prize, trains the son of Dahess.
But hot on their heels is Vica Grine, the French-trained warrior who once shared the glory of this Group 3 title and recently placed a strong fourth in the prestigious Al Ubayyah Cup. With Bernard Jean Francois guiding his training, he's ready to climb back to the top.
Then there's Gassaan, another Atlas Stud representative, by RB Burn out of Djezika, under the careful eye of trainer Al Mourtaki Mohammed. A rising star with much to prove, his powerful stride hints at greatness.
The Moroccan leg of the prestigious series promises an electric showcase of talent, with a rich field of contenders blending local pride and international pedigree.
Leading the charge is Lamine Bouznika, owned and trained by Ajghough Hassan, alongside Mamouni Fal and Amine Grine, both owned and trained by Taleb Rabia and El Mouhib Fouad.
Veteran names like Al Awal, Al Zaraffa Cham, and Matrix Al Ashai add depth to the lineup, while international entries such as Al Najeeb, under the watchful eye of Bernard Jean Francois for Ecuries Royales d'Oman, bring global prestige to the field.
From the powerhouse Zain El Hala and Zayash Maamora of Al Ssakab Racing, to Nayel Maamora of Al Mortajez Racing, each entry is poised to leave a mark.
Sawt Essalam RM and Rislou Fal represent their stables with confidence, while all eyes will be on Der'h Al Shahania, a royal runner from the stables of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani, trained by the renowned Fourcy Thomas.

Next leg of the will be held in France on May 11 with an impressive €350,000 purse. The series then crosses the Atlantic to the United States on May 17, where a $200,000 prize is up for grabs.
The momentum carries on with the Italian leg on May 18, presenting €300,000 in prize money, followed by Sweden on June 6 with €100,000.

The UAE ended their third round campaign in the Asian World Cup qualifiers with a 1-1 draw against Kyrgyzstan at Dolen Omurzakov Stadium in Bishkek on Tuesday. It seemed the UAE would their campaign on a high, but Kyrgyzstan never-say-die attitude saw them grab a last-gasp equaliser. Kyrgyzstan late salvo saw them end their campaign on eight points while Cosmin Olaroiu continues to wait for his first win as UAE head coach with his side finishing on 15 points. With UAE's progress to the fourth round and Kyrgyzstan's elimination already decided going into the match, the game saw a cagey start before the visitors stole into the lead at the half hour mark. Valerii Kichin was dispossessed by Luanzinho at the halfway line, with the UAE midfielder driving forward before laying the ball off for Harib Abdalla to strike home past the advancing Erzhan Tokotaev. Kyrgyzstan emerged after the interval a different side as they looked to put more pressure on the UAE defence. Ermek Kenzhenbaev's attempt from distance took multiple deflections and was easily claimed by Al Hosani before Joel Kojo set up Kimi Merk inside the box, only for the latter to crash his shot against a UAE defender. With 10 minutes of regulation time remaining, Kojo had a close range header caught by Al Hosani but Kyrgyz Republic fought until the very end, eventually finding the equaliser through Kai Merk in stoppage time. Meanwhile, Uzbekistan ended their campaign with a commanding 3-0 win over Qatar on Tuesday. Timur Kapadze's men, who have already booked their spot in their first Fifa World Cup Finals, finished with 21 points from 10 matches. Qatar will have to navigate the fourth round, where two additional places at next year's global showpiece are up for grabs. The West Asians finished fourth in Group A with 13 points. A slow first 20 minutes was highlighted by a half-hearted try by Qatar's Amro Syrag, a looping header by Uzbekistan's Husniddin Aliqulov and a run down the middle from his captain Eldor Shomurodov, who outran three defenders only to be dispossessed. UAE residents plan holidays around sporting events, Hyatt survey finds
Forty-five per cent of UAE residents would plan an entire holiday around a sporting event, a new report finds. The research, conducted by Perspectus Global during March 2025 among 2,100 UAE respondents, found that individuals plan to participate in an average of 12 sporting activities and attend seven events as spectators over the next year. UAE sports travel boom According to the survey commissioned by Hyatt, 45 per cent of UAE residents say attending live sporting events is one of life's pleasures, and 30 per cent would travel thousands of miles to experience an event. Additionally, 27 per cent say they would pay a premium to stay in a hotel that enhances their event experience, from location and amenities to atmosphere. Football remains the most travelled-for sport at 52 per cent, but interest in cricket (29 per cent), cycling (28 per cent), swimming (27 per cent), and bodybuilding (21 per cent) reflects a sports culture across the region. Stephen Ansell, Managing Director Middle East and Africa, Hyatt, said: 'Sports-tripping is reaching fever pitch, and we are increasingly seeing more travellers, with a passion for building their holidays around watching live sporting events, stay in Hyatt properties. Whether people are discovering a new destination, or revisiting a firm favourite, travelling to watch sporting events offers the perfect opportunity for fans to enjoy a unique event as well as the wider experiences a city has to offer.' The survey found that 52 per cent of respondents say proximity to sports venues is a factor when booking a hotel, whilst 30 per cent are inspired to stay in hotels frequented by athletes or sports teams. One in three value onsite facilities or access to fan zones. Hyatt has observed a shift across its regional properties, where travel is centred around sporting events. Travellers seek stays that support their performance and well-being, from proximity to venues and recovery facilities, to nutrition dining and spaces designed to support performance. F1, football fuel UAE's hotel boom Events like Formula 1 and football fixtures have driven occupancy levels across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, indicating that sport has become part of the region's identity. The desire to travel extends beyond the spectator experience. Two in five UAE residents say they love travelling to take part in competitive sports. For many, these trips are about personal health and fulfilment as much as competition. Whether it's maintaining fitness routines (40 per cent), developing discipline (33 per cent) or spending time with family and friends, these journeys help people redefine what it means to relax. Travellers blend movement with meaning, creating holidays where sport, well-being, and connection intersect. The mindset influences business travel. 42 per cent of UAE respondents say the ability to practise sport during a work trip is an incentive, and 40 per cent try to combine attendance or participation in sporting events with business schedules. Whether it's squeezing in a morning swim, catching a match after meetings, or joining a cycling group between conferences, professionals aren't abandoning their well-being goals whilst travelling, the report said.

Claiming victory on a back-nine countback, Valentine edged out a strong field of 84 players to earn the top honour on the Fire course. In the Ladies Division, 2026 Lady Captain Michelle Walsh-Hall came out on top with a three-under net 69, securing victory on a back-nine countback. The Junior Division highlighted emerging talent as Abdulla Darwish posted a level-par net 72 to take the win. Moments later, his father, Mohammed Darwish, delivered a net 69 to capture the senior's title - making it a day to remember for the Darwish family. Harrison tops Stableford Division In the Stableford Division, James Harrison led with 41 points. Though a mid-round ruling removed him from medal contention, he showed great composure to claim the Stableford prize. Willemijn Roeterdink followed with 39 points, taking second on countback. The event wrapped up in the Jumeirah Golf Estates Ballroom with a vibrant prize ceremony and buffet, celebrating another successful OMA Emirates Medalford in Dubai's premier golfing destination.
