Mock drill held in 22 districts in Haryana
Around 10,000 civil defence volunteers along with National Cadet Corps, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Home Guards and National Service Scheme volunteers from 22 districts of Haryana participated in mock drills as part of Operation Shield across Haryana on Saturday. The mock drills were aimed to test readiness for emergency situations like air raids, blackouts and evacuations.
Additional chief secretary (ACS) home Sumita Misra who supervised the execution of Operation Shield from the State Emergency Response Center at Panchkula said that district-level war rooms led by deputy commissioners conducted tactical briefings and deployed volunteers to critical zones. The drills included mock evacuations, first-response triaging, and cyber-incidents protocols tested across urban and rural areas. Advanced technologies such as drones, emergency alert systems, and GIS-based resource tracking were deployed to replicate real-world emergency scenarios. These efforts helped stress-test the state's readiness and highlighted areas for future capacity building, she said.
The ACS said that civil defence master trainers were trained under the guidance of NDRF and MHA. These master trainers shall impart training in every district, she said. The ACS said that exercise involved high-intensity simulations of security threats such as air raids, drone attacks, and wartime scenarios.
Misra monitored live updates from 22 districts issuing operational instructions in real time. She emphasised that preparedness should not be treated as a one-time drill but must evolve into a continuous culture. The exercise demonstrated a seamless coordination between senior officers, local administrations, and community-level volunteers, marking a significant step in improving the state's response capabilities, an official spokesperson said.

He also congratulated the NCC Mount Everest Expedition team for their successful summit on May 18 describing it as a powerful example of cadet courage and resilience. Calling for continued Centre-State collaboration, Mr. Seth urged the States to fulfil their commitments towards manpower, infrastructure, and funding to support the expansion. 'Director General NCC Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh outlined the Corps' achievements and roadmap ahead, with a focus on establishing robust training and camping infrastructure nationwide. He emphasised the goal of fostering greater youth participation and improving cadet performance,' said a release. Among those present on the occasion were Ministers of Education and Youth Affairs & Sports, senior Defence Ministry officials, State Department representatives, and NCC heads from all States.

Cabinet gives nod for filling 4,799 posts in various departments, corporations
Patna: Bihar cabinet on Tuesday gave its nod for filling 4,799 posts of various categories in different departments and corporations of the state govt. A maximum of 2,361 posts of different categories have been created in the education department, followed by 1,350 posts in the urban development and housing department. The cabinet approved the education department's proposal for creation of 1,503 posts that included 568 posts of the education development officer (EDO) and 935 posts of the assistant education development officer (AEDO) under the Bihar Education Administrative Cadre Rules 2025, additional chief secretary (ACS) S Siddharth said here after the cabinet meeting. The decision to create these posts will help carry out micro monitoring of schools right from primary to higher secondary level to ensure quality education in the state, he said. The AEDO will be given the job of inspecting and monitoring schools of every 10 panchayats while the EDO will monitor schools at block-level. Notably, there are 8,053 panchayats while there are 534 blocks in the state. It also created 818 posts for the Bihar State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. Besides, two posts of estate officers and 38 posts of assistant estate officers were created for three years on a contract basis. The cabinet also gave urban development and housing department's proposal for creation of 1,350 posts for running offices constituted under the Planning Area Authority in every district, Siddharth said. It also created 653 posts for Bihar State Jeevika Fund Credit Cooperative Federation Ltd, Patna constituted under Bihar Cooperative Society Act 1935, the ACS said. It also gave its nod to urban development and housing department's proposal to expand the area of municipal councils of Phulwarisharif, Danapur Nizamat and Khagaul in Patna district. It would enable the residents to get facilities provided by urban local bodies. Besides, the move would increase the urban area. The decision would extend Phulwarisharif's municipal area by 16.51 square km while Danapur's 23.14 sq km and Khagaul's 9.4 sq km. In yet another important decision, children (3-6 years) getting pre-school education at Anganwadi Kendras will now get uniforms prepared by the Jeevika. The cabinet took a decision in this regard making an amendment in the existing provision as per which Rs 400 per child per year is transferred into the bank accounts of parents. Two sets of uniforms will be provided by the Jeevika at Anganwadi Kendras, the ACS said, adding that Jeevika would get an annual increase of 5% in the rate of uniform. The cabinet gave its nod to handover five acres of land located on the southern flank of river Ganga at Mauja Dujra Diyara in Patna on temporary lease for 25 years to the Inland Waterways Authority of India to repair ship and construction of dry dock, the ACS said.
