You won't believe the incredible secret hiding inside this Aussie 'servo'

Daily Mail21-07-2025
At first glance, it looks like just another old-school servo at the top of Port Kembla's main drag in Wollongong, NSW.
But through the doors of this retro 1950s Mobil station is one of the Illawarra's best-kept secrets - The Servo Food Truck Bar, a thriving hub for food, music and art.
The venue has quickly become a cult favourite among locals for its food offerings, drag shows, live gigs, fire pits, and fully BYO-friendly atmosphere, as well as open-air movie screenings.
It has certainly been giving Sydney 's cool inner-west scene a run for its money -and the best part is that it's only 90 minutes from the city.
Forget sticky pub carpets and cover bands though, because The Servo, according to their social media, is a welcoming space for humans of all identities and ages.
Curated by local James Spink, the venue's ever-changing program features everything from punk rock, folk, queer cabaret, to experimental jazz and zine fairs, to spoken word poetry and candlelit sound baths.
'The Illawarra got way cooler the day the servo opened,' one fan commented on Instagram.
'Thank YOU for creating such a safe and wonderful space,' raved another.
'Love performing at this very special space,' said one of their regular soul musicians.
'Fuuuuuun!' another added in the comments.
Every weekend (Thursday through Sunday), the forecourt transforms into a pop-up foodie mecca with a rotating lineup of food trucks.
The list now includes a rotation of some of the areas favourite cuisine options: Papi's Birria Tacos, Roy's Restobar, 2 Smoking Barrels, Pho King Delicious and Messina, among others.
Customers can enjoy deep-fried lasagne toasties one weekend, and slow-cooked pork cordon bleu bao the next.
'It's the best! So good for community, so good for music, so good for the soul!!' one customer wrote on their Facebook page.
'You guys have built a little piece of retro special space ~ thanks for supporting local artists and I wish all the best & big things ahead,' said another.
There's also house beer on tap. PK (Port Kembla) Lager was crafted just down the road with Seeker Brewing and is 'best enjoyed chilled, outside, with music in your ears and charcoal in the air.'
Set against the backdrop of the Port Kembla steelworks, the space also features mural-covered walls, fairy lights, reclaimed timber furniture, a mural-splashed performance space and crackling fire drums.
Each week it opens its doors from 4pm untill late on Thursdays and Fridays, and from 2pm until late on Saturdays and Sundays.
From queer comedy night, local punk sets, craft markets, or just a space to grab a drink and some dumplings with mates, The Servo has community at the helm.

EXCLUSIVE Tennis at the Australian Open, a visit to Ramsey Street... and Roar & Uncut tracks down James Haskell in the pool during the Lions' tour

Nik and Kev's Lions tour adventure continued as they arrived in Melbourne for the crescendo moment of the series. They touched down in Victoria where they were reunited with some old friends to show them the city that prides itself on being every bit different. With hidden gems around every corner, they ended up stepping out of the rugby bubble to experience street art, coffee culture and the state's vibrant multi-culture. Here is what the guys got up to in the fifth episode of Roar & Uncut, in association with Dr Squatch. MONDAY It was an early start for the Wallabies ' press conference at the Crowne Plaza Melbourne by IHG. As the official tour partners, IHG decked out the riverside hotel with paraphernalia ahead of the big match, so we checked out their pop-up bar before heading out of town to Ramsay Street. The Neighbours set brought back a few teenage memories, visiting the houses that played out so many storylines for the likes of the Bishops and the Kennedies. TUESDAY All kitted up, we made tracks to the iconic blue tennis courts that host the Australian Open. Kev prides himself on being the Essex schoolboys champion at Under 15 level so we brought Mail Sport columnist Dan Biggar along to step up the competition. Dan was a professional sportsman until last month and his athleticism shone through, wiping the court with both of us to win the inaugural Dr Squatch trophy. After the match, we stopped off at Proud Mary, which was recently named in the top 10 coffee shops in the world, to fuel up before the Lions match against the Pasifika XV. WEDNESDAY We boarded a boat up the river for a memorable tour of the Melbourne Cricket Ground. It is a colossus of an arena, with 100,024 seats that host concerts, AFL, cricket and more. Damien Fleming, Australia's fast bowler from the 1990s, gave the travelling media a private tour, joining us for lunch in the Long Room. Come Christmas, the iconic stadium will be packed to its old rafters for the upcoming Ashes series. THURSDAY After Andy Farrell and Joe Schmidt named their teams for the second Test, we visited the Lightscape exhibition at the Royal Botanic Gardens. It was an immersive display featuring dozens of illuminations, strolling through floral canopies that offered an enchanting escape from the day-to-day touring schedule. And then it was back to the MCG, where the Hawks were hosting Carlton in an all-Victorian AFL derby. FRIDAY Our hotel, the voco Melbourne Central by IHG, was situated in the heart of the action. We were surrounded by the bright lights of China Town, vibrant street art and independent outlets on every corner. James Haskell and Mike Tindall were also staying in our hotel, as part of their work with the The Good, The Bad & The Rugby. We caught up with Haskell in the hotel's skyline swimming pool, where he shared a few hilarious anecdotes from his rugby career. SATURDAY Match day in Melbourne, but not before some fish and chips down on the beach in St Kilda. We boarded the city's free tram service for a hit of sea air, enjoying the winter coastline. Then it was back to the MCG to join more than 90,000 supporters for the series-defining Test. Kev was a guest of Qatar Airways in their hospitality area, while Nik was sat up in the media tribune to report on a thrilling Lions victory for the ages. Roar & Uncut comes to you in association with Dr Squatch, ensuring Nik and Kev are the best-smelling guys on tour.

Bachelor star Bec Cvilikas announces engagement to long-time boyfriend Kody Griggs after romantic sunset beach proposal

Bachelor star Bec Cvilikas is officially off the market. The 29-year-old reality TV favourite announced her engagement to long-time boyfriend Kody Griggs on Monday after he got down on one knee during a picture-perfect sunset proposal on the beach. In emotional footage shared to Instagram, a stunned Bec is seen covering her mouth in shock as Kody drops to one knee on a white towel laid out on the sand, holding out a sparkling diamond ring. Moments later, the couple is seen sharing a passionate kiss as the waves crash behind them, sealing their commitment with a beachside embrace. 'A forever thing,' Bec captioned the sweet moment, set to Chris Stapleton 's romantic ballad Joy Of My Life. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Their engagement comes as Bec continues to build her brand away from reality TV, having first risen to fame on Locky Gilbert's season of The Bachelor in 2020 The post quickly drew hundreds of congratulatory comments, including messages from some of her fellow Bachelor stars. 'I knew that one of these sunset beach videos was going to be a proposal! SOOOOO HAPPY for you both! Congratulations!' gushed Irena Srbinovska. 'Congratulations darling!' added Georgia Glass, while Davey Lloyd chimed in with, 'Congrats guys xx.' In the snaps, Bec kept things casual but chic in an oversized white jumper and black pants, while Kody opted for a tan pullover, beige shorts and a cap. The pair, who have kept much of their relationship out of the spotlight, have reportedly been dating for several years and are said to be stronger than ever. Their engagement comes as Bec continues to build her brand away from reality TV, having first risen to fame on Locky Gilbert's season of The Bachelor in 2020. Bec previously made headlines when she was forced to break her silence on her long-running feud with former best friend and co-star, Bella Varelis. The friendship soured after the pair shared a flat together in the beachside suburb. Bec pulled no punches about the pair's acrimonious split when she was quizzed about their falling out during an Instagram Q&A. 'Bella and I have no contact whatsoever. I will never disclose the reasons why we are no longer friends,' she wrote. She went on to say the two women have 'well and truly closed the chapter' as they continue on with their lives. Bec has since moved on with her influencing career in the Sunshine Coast and Bella is an in-demand influencer in Sydney. The once close former reality stars had a 'disagreement'. 'They had a disagreement a few months ago and unfollowed each other on Instagram,' a source told the publication.

Ed Sheeran reveals he'll need security until 'I pass away' after his family faced kidnap threats

Ed Sheeran has revealed how crazed fans have threatened to kidnap his young children, even breaking into his home. The singer, 34, who shares daughters Lyra, four, and Jupiter, three, with wife Cherry Seaborn, told Australia's 60 Minutes on Sunday that he employs extensive security measures due to the threats. He said: 'It's things that people don't really even take into account. Like kidnap threats and s*** like that. We've had attempted break-ins, things left on my car. It's way more sinister than just fans turning up and wanting selfies.' SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO Ed said that he had to accept that his family will always need protection, adding: 'We have a level of security that probably won't change until I pass away. That's just our life now.' Ed went on to explain that he is fiercely protective of his daughters' privacy and does not allow fans to take photos of them - even facing off with those who try. He said: 'I've had some real arguments before. I'm fine with taking pictures, but I just think it's weird with a four-year-old and a three-year-old.' Ed wishes life was more 'normal' for his family but has accepted that fame has its downsides: 'To be within the public sphere, you have to take it all, the good and the bad. But I think I would definitely want a more normal life for my kids.'
