183 tech snags reported by 5 Indian airlines in 2025; over 100 Air India pilots went on leave post AI171 crash
Out of the 183 technical snags reported to aviation watchdog Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), 85 have been reported by Air India and Air India Express together. IndiGo and Akasa Air reported 62 and 28 technical defects, respectively, while SpiceJet reported 8 defects, according to the government data.
"All defects reported by the airline to the DGCA are required to be investigated for taking appropriate rectification action. The investigation of all defects, particularly major defects, has to be completed expeditiously so as to take preventive/corrective action at the earliest possible," Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said in the written reply.
Meanwhile, the government also informed the lower House of the Parliament that as many as 112 pilots working with Air India have taken sick leave after the deadly Ahmedabad plane crash on June 12 that killed at least 260 people, including all but one of the 242 onboard.

"I am the trustee of Baba Baidyanath Dham as a member of Parliament, as per the law. I am in a higher position than the priest. On what basis was the FIR lodged?" he asked while speaking to reporters in Deoghar. Dubey claimed that he went to Baba Baidyanath Dham Police Station so that the police personnel could arrest him, but they refused to do so.

Meghalaya: Man stabbed by armed gang from across Bangladesh border
Shillong: An armed gang from across the Bangladesh border stabbed a man allegedly for trying to block their movement in the Indian territory in Meghalaya's South West Khasi Hills district on Friday night. Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier inspector general O P Upadhaya said, 'We have arrested four of them and will arrest all of them. Combing operations are on with BSF, police, and local residents working together.' The attack took place in Rongdongai village under the Nongjri–Nonghyllam sector near the Bangladesh border. According to SWKH police, a group of about nine Bangladeshi nationals — armed with weapons including a firearm — crossed into Indian territory illegally under the cover of darkness. Their target appears to have been far more calculated than a random intrusion. The victim, identified as Balsrang A. Marak, was assaulted and stabbed, possibly for trying to block their movement. The gang fled soon after but did not immediately return to Bangladesh. The items recovered from the scene include Bangladeshi currency, communication equipment such as walkie-talkies and chargers, and an identity card belonging to the Bangladesh police. This has led authorities to suspect that the attackers may have links to rogue law enforcement elements across the border. 'We strongly believe this group entered with the intention of abducting locals for ransom,' said a senior police officer in the know of things. 'The level of preparation, the type of equipment, and their movements suggest an organised gang, not petty criminals,' added the officer. Earlier this week, chief minister Conrad K. For those living on the frontlines, however, the fear now outweighs those objections.
