Spurs extend Wales defender Davies' contract
Tottenham Hotspur have exercised the option to extend Wales defender Ben Davies' contract, which will now run until the summer of 2026.
The 32-year-old is Spurs' longest-serving player, having joined from Swansea City in 2014.

Davies' current deal was due to expire this summer and Tottenham say they are "delighted" he will be staying for the 2025-26 season.
Capable of playing at left-back or centre-back, Davies has made 358 appearances in all competitions for Spurs, scoring nine goals and captaining the team 13 times.
He is currently with the Wales squad preparing for Monday's World Cup qualifier in Belgium.
Davies has regularly worn the captain's armband for his country in the absence of injured midfielder Aaron Ramsey and led Wales to a 3-0 win over Liechtenstein on Friday.

Shaq shared that it had crossed his mind to keep the cash in the wallet, but once he realised who it belonged to he changed his mind. "I was walking one day in Beverly Hills and I found a wallet," the 53-year-old recalled during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden. "Usually when I find wallets, I just take all the money out and I just throw them," he joked. "But this was a nice wallet." Shaw then noticed Beckham's ID inside the wallet, and decided to play a prank on his friend. "First I played a joke," the American said. "I was like, 'I have your wallet, it's going to cost you a million dollars to get it back'. But he knew it was me. [Beckham said] 'Shaq, stop playing'. I was like 'Dave, I found your wallet'. The funny thing is he [Beckham] said, 'There was some money in this wallet, you know what happened?' And I was like, 'Nope.'" Shaq retired from elite basketball in 2012 and is recognised as one of the greater players of the sport. Towering at 7ft 1in, he helped the Lakers to secure four NBA titles including three with the Lakers during the Kobe Bryant era, and one with the Miami Heat. Beckham retired from professional football in 2013, and has recently been finally confirmed as receiving a knighthood in the king's birthday honours list.

Italy coach Spalletti says Moldova match will be his last
Italy coach Luciano Spalletti has said that Monday's World Cup qualifier against Moldova would be his last. Spalletti had come in for criticism after the Italian side lost 3-0 to Norway in their opening World Cup qualifying match last week. Advertisement "We spoke with the president of the Italian federation on Saturday and I was told that I would be relieved of my duties as coach of the national team," Spalletti told a press conference on Sunday. "I'm not happy about it. Given the relationship we have, I had absolutely no intention of leaving. Especially when things aren't going well, I would have preferred to stay and do my job. "But this is a dismissal and I have to accept it. I've always seen this role as a service to the country and I want to facilitate the future of the national team. I think it's right to strive for the best." Spalletti, 66, took over from Roberto Mancini as Italy coach in August 2023. Spalletti's dismissal came only hours after he had been stoutly defended by the same man who then fired him, Federation president Gabriele Gravina. Gravina, who is not without his own critics, said earlier on Sunday Spalletti "was an extraordinary person" adding he "believed in the team and (Spalletti's) project" which he declared was "amazing." "He is a noble soul. The attacks on him are not merited," said Gravina. Gravina had conceded the manner of the defeat to Norway was "unacceptable" though he intimated Spalletti would be responsible for leading the recovery. ROME (AP) — Italy's national soccer team coach Luciano Spalletti announced Sunday that he is being fired and will leave after Monday's World Cup qualifier against Moldova. The move comes two days after Italy lost 3-0 at Norway in its opening qualifier — already raising the prospect that the Azzurri could fail for the third consecutive time to qualify for the World Cup. 'Last night I had a conversation with the president (Italian soccer federation president Gabriele Gravina) and he told me that I would be fired,' Spalletti said in a pre-match news conference at Italy's training center.
