Vizag collector issues guidelines for Vinayaka Chaturthi and Durga Puja festivals
He added that idols and decorative materials must be made from biodegradable and non-toxic substances, such as natural clay, as prescribed in the guidelines. These instructions were issued following a coordination meeting chaired by the collector on Wednesday.
According to Andhra Pradesh pollution control board officials, the meeting was convened to discuss preparations and regulatory measures for the upcoming festival celebrations.
It was attended by the GVMC commissioner, police and revenue officials.
During the meeting, the collector reviewed the implementation of CPCB guidelines and highlighted the responsibilities of local and urban local bodies in safeguarding the environment and water bodies. He also stressed the importance of promoting clay idols over those made using Plaster of Paris (PoP), warning that legal measures would be taken against violators.

According to the guidelines, immersions shall take place only at officially designated locations. Organisers must also follow the noise pollution (regulation & control) rules, 2000, and avoid any coercive collection of monetary contributions. Structures or pandals should not obstruct or damage existing roads, nor interfere with overhead power lines. All processions must follow routes and timings designated by the district administration.
To streamline approvals, a single window system will be set up at the zonal offices of GVMC for permissions related to Ganesh mandapam installations and idol immersion.

Residents of 40-year-old Dombivli building evacuated after structure develops cracks
Kalyan: Panic gripped Dombivli residents on Friday night after sudden cracks developed in a 40-year-old residential building, forcing the evacuation of more than 100 people from around 25 families. The structure, identified as Seemantini Society on Gupte Road, was immediately sealed by the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) to avert any possible tragedy. According to residents, cracks were first spotted on the building's pillars and walls late in the evening on Friday. Grief engulfs villages after West Bengal bus tragedy
Motihari: An air of grief and disbelief hangs over Sarsawa village, where six residents, including two women and a minor boy, were among those killed in Friday's bus accident in West Bengal's East Burdwan district.
