Factory worker loses RM330,000 to investment scam
BATU PAHAT: A factory worker here claims he lost RM330,400 in a non-existent investment scheme after receiving a WhatsApp message in January.
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the victim was attracted to the high returns in the supposed "Hong Kong Share Investment" opportunity.
'The suspect then briefed the 57-year-old victim on the procedure for participation," he said in a statement on Friday (May 2).
ACP Shahrulanuar said the victim made several transactions amounting to RM330,400 into two bank accounts between Feb 19 and March 18.
'The victim only realised he had been cheated when he did not receive the promised returns," he said.
ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat reminded the public to be alert and careful when dealing with unknown persons, especially involving financial transactions.
The public can also check the Semak Mule application, contact the Commercial Crime Investigation Department's Scam Response Centre at 03-26101559 or 03-26101599, or refer to the police Facebook accounts jsjkpdrm and cybercrimealertrmp.
Scam victims are also advised to call the National Scam Response Centre at 997 to report their case.

KUALA LUMPUR: Activist and graphic artist Fahmi Reza claims he was prevented from leaving the country this morning after immigration officers at KLIA informed him that he had been blacklisted. "Today, on my birthday and Hari Raya Aidiladha, I found out I've been blacklisted and barred from leaving the country," he said in a Facebook post earlier today. In his post, he detailed plans for a short two-day trip to Singapore to attend a show featuring two of his favourite punk bands. Fahmi said he arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) around 7.30am to catch a 9.35am flight and proceeded to the international immigration clearance counter, where he was directed to the immigration office. He said the officer asked for his travel documents and destination, then requested printed copies of his boarding pass and flight ticket. Despite showing digital versions on his phone, Fahmi claimed he was instructed to print physical copies himself, even though the office was equipped with a printer. With just minutes left before boarding, an airport staff member assisted him by driving him to a nearby hotel to print the required documents. Upon returning to the immigration office, Fahmi said he was informed that he had not been granted clearance to leave the country. According to him, the officer said that Bukit Aman had not approved his departure but did not provide any further explanation. He was then escorted out of the departure area. Manjung council: Pantai Teluk Senangin open to all, no fee for relaxation
Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) has denied appointing any individual or association to collect fees at Pantai Teluk Senangin in Lumut, Perak. In a media statement, MPM said 'Pantai Teluk Senangin is a public beach that is open to all for recreation, relaxation and picnics. 'MPM does not charge visitors for leisure activities. 'MPM has not appointed, authorised or issued permits to individuals, associations or organisations to collect fees from beachgoers.' This followed a viral social media post of a family being harassed by an individual who was demanding payment for table and chair rentals at the beach, located 32km from Sitiawan, Manjung. MPM said it posted a notice on its Facebook page on Aug 15 last year, stating that no charges were imposed for beach activities. Bernama reported that MPM said it had collaborated with the Manjung District Police Headquarters to conduct enforcement at the beach against those renting out ring floats. 'Action was taken against operators renting out chairs, tables, tents and floats without a valid licence or permission from the MPM president,' MPM said. Six seizures were made, involving equipment, including tents set up along Pantai Teluk Senangin. 'All seized items were taken to MPM's temporary storage depot for further action according to applicable laws and procedures. 'The seized items included 220 chairs, 19 wooden tables, one steel table, one umbrella, 25 floats and three tents,' the statement said. MPM said so far, 10 permits had been issued to operators. However, only three of these operators were active.
