TS Galaxy Academy dominate Hotspurs in title chase at Halls Sports Ground

The Citizen21-07-2025
TS Galaxy Academy defeated Mataffin Hotspurs FC 3-0 at Halls Sports Ground last Wednesday, July 9. The young Rockets came into the match hungry for victory as they continue to chase the league title, while Hotspurs were hoping to secure a spot in the top eight.
In a thrilling youth football encounter, TS Galaxy Academy came out attacking from the first whistle. Their aggressive start paid off early, with midfielder Siyanda Xulu opening the scoring in the seventh minute.
The visitors continued to dominate, denying the home side any real chance to progress into the Rockets' half. Galaxy's defence proved unrelenting, shutting down Hotspurs' attempts to find an equaliser. Hotspurs briefly pushed forward in the 14th minute, managing to play in the opposition's half, but they failed to capitalise on their presence inside the 18-yard box.
In their push for a second goal, the Rockets were flagged offside three times in under five minutes. But their pressure soon paid off when Hotspurs lost control in midfield, and Mbuso Makhubela punished them with a clinical second goal in the 22nd minute. Hotspurs' frustration showed when Mxondisi Mdhluli received the first yellow card of the match in the 34th minute for a foul on Xulu.

The match turned increasingly physical, with Karabo Mpangane picking up another booking for Hotspurs in the 41st minute after a reckless tackle on Terry Palmer. TS Galaxy Academy went into the break leading 2-0.
The second half opened with Aphelele Kubheka receiving the Rockets' first yellow card in the 49th minute. Hotspurs continued to push for a goal, but Galaxy's defensive structure remained intact.
For ten minutes, the Rockets dominated possession and launched several attacks, forcing set pieces just outside the Hotspurs' box. In the 71st minute, Hotspurs finally had a shot on goal, but goalkeeper Clarrel Ndlovu was quick to deny them.

The Rockets sealed the win in the 83rd minute when Zamokuhle Khumalo netted their third goal, breaking through a tiring Hotspurs defence. With two minutes remaining, Luyanda Ngutshani of TS Galaxy Academy was booked for unsporting behaviour, but it did little to take the shine off a dominant performance.
The match ended 3-0 after regular time. Mataffin Hotspurs now sit in ninth place with 18 points from 19 games, while TS Galaxy Academy remain third with 37 points from 18 fixtures.

'Not what we're looking for' – Nabi on Kaizer Chiefs linked foreign striker

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has shared his thoughts on the club potentially signing former TS Galaxy star Dzenan Zajmovic. The Bosnian striker scored eight goals in 25 matches for the Rockets last season. In recent weeks, he was linked with a move to the Chiefs, but has since refuted reports that he was in contact with the Soweto giants. Nabi has confirmed the striker's statement, saying the player might not be what Kaizer Chiefs is looking for. 'I don't want to start about the striker from Galaxy. I don't know if he is in the vision of the club. I also don't know if his administrative problem is finished,' he told the media. 'I don't know. But if we have the opportunity to recruit him, particularly if he has residence automatically, yes. 'The window is not closed. I think if you have opportunities, our scouting team will do the work. If you have a good opportunity, then why not? 'But I want a player with more qualities than I have. I don't want a player with the same quality,' Nabi concluded. Kaizer Chiefs made six signings this season, but only one of them is a striker. With Ranga Chivaviro released, Amakhosi need a top striker to assist the new man, Flavio Silva and also Ashley Du Preez. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Galaxy oozing confidence despite losing key players: Letsoenyo

TS Galaxy left-back Kganyane Letsoenyo is optimistic the team will cope this season after losing a few key players during the break. The Rockets parted ways with Keagan Dolly and Dzenan Zajmovic and sold Kamogelo Sebelebele and Lebone Seema to Orlando Pirates before the new season. Those players played an integral role in helping the Rockets finish fifth in the PSL and secure a spot in the MTN8, where they meet Sekhukhune United in their quarterfinals at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday (6pm). 'We've lost key players but our team is known for producing more, so I don't think we are going to miss them that much as we have new signings who have filled those gaps,' Letsoenyo told Sowetan after the launch of the top eight competition on Wednesday in Randburg. Fresh blood. Fresh fire. They are here to make history!💪🚀 @aQuelle @aQuelleViV #Siyadumuza #TheRockets #TSG — TS Galaxy FC (@TSGALAXYFC) July 31, 2025 Coach Adnan Beganović is in his second season in charge after an impressive first campaign leading the club to a fifth-place finish, having taken over from Sead Ramović six games into the Premiership season in November last year. Letsoenyo believes Beganović can have another good campaign in 2025-2026. 'He wants us to play possession football and since he introduced it last season when he was appointed as head coach he has been adding one or two things from what we have built.' He said the Rockets' plan is to go far in the MTN8 after they were eliminated in the first round last season, but acknowledged that Sekhukhune, last campaign's fourth-placed Premiership finishers, will pose a threat. 'They had a good previous season and we are expecting a tough game, but we are ready for the match. Last season was our first time playing in the MTN8, so this time we know what to expect and we've learnt from that experience.' Galaxy's signings include midfielder Jeffrey Dlamini from Royal AM, forward Sedwyn George from Highbury FC, wingers Anslin Williams from JDR Stars and Onke Moletshe from Venda FC and centreback Veluyeke Zulu.
