Khareef business gets boost with over 600 work permits
SALALAH, AUGUST 1 The Ministry of Labour, through its Dhofar Directorate, has issued more than 600 temporary work permits since the start of the Khareef Dhofar Season 2025, as part of efforts to facilitate commercial activity and support entrepreneurs during the peak tourism period in the governorate. According to the Director General of the Ministry's Labour Directorate in Dhofar, the temporary permits — provided free of charge — allow the hiring of expatriate workers for non-Omani-exclusive jobs, particularly roles that citizens are typically reluctant to take. He explained that the initiative helps regulate seasonal employment, meeting the surge in demand from small businesses and entrepreneurs, especially in sectors such as food services, logistics and event management. The official added that the service has seen strong demand from owners of small and seasonal enterprises, offering a legal and flexible mechanism to bring in workforce support without breaching labour regulations. Permit holders are also expected to employ and supervise Omani staff, ensuring that nationals remain engaged in seasonal business operations. He stressed that the initiative reflects the Ministry's commitment to promoting entrepreneurship and reducing administrative burdens, by waiving fees and streamlining the application and approval process. It also ensures legal compliance and labour protection across all operational fronts. This effort comes as part of wider government measures to encourage local and seasonal investment in Dhofar Governorate, which welcomes tens of thousands of visitors during the annual monsoon season. The facilitation is expected to boost the quality and scale of tourism and retail services, while maintaining a well-regulated business environment. Labour ministry announces 811 government jobs
MUSCAT: The Ministry of Labour announced the availability of 811 vacant job opportunities across several government units. These positions are distributed across various educational qualifications, ranging from Bachelor's degrees to less than a General Education Diploma (GED). Specifically, there are 607 vacancies for Bachelor's degrees and post-General Education Diploma holders; and 204 vacancies for General Education Diploma holders and below. The Ministry stated that the registration for these advertised opportunities is open until August 7.

Top performing service providers get awards
Muscat Governorate, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, honoured the best public service providers in Muscat Governorate for 2024. This initiative aims to encourage ministries and public authorities to excel in providing the best services to the people. The event was held under the auspices of Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality. Eight public service providers were recognised for reaching the highest levels of excellence in delivering government services in Muscat Governorate. This event is part of an effort to strengthen the institutional excellence system and motivate entities to improve performance efficiency and the quality of government services. The winners included the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the National Museum, Al Amal Club - the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Ministry of Education, the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, and the Consumer Protection Authority. The selection process was based on a comprehensive evaluation that considered performance indicators, operational efficiency and beneficiary satisfaction surveys. Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, expressed that this recognition acknowledges the sincere efforts and commitment of the institutions to provide excellent services to citizens and residents. He highlighted that the honoured entities serve as role models for performance excellence and emphasised that service excellence is a result of a culture of continuous learning in the workplace. He also mentioned that Muscat Governorate, within the framework of decentralisation and strengthening the roles of governorates, aims to monitor service quality and oversee the implementation of development plans. This is done by evaluating the performance of service outlets in coordination with relevant authorities to ensure alignment with the priorities of Oman Vision 2040. Muscat Governorate values the honoured entities for their effective commitment to institutional work methodologies and a culture of sustainable improvement. Muscat Governorate appreciates the efforts of the honoured government agencies and emphasises the importance of sharing successful experiences to enhance government performance in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
