Shedeur Sanders impresses in his Browns preseason debut
All eyes in Cleveland were on Shedeur Sanders on Friday night, as the fifth-round rookie quarterback got the starting nod in the Browns preseason kickoff against the Carolina Panthers. The polarizing Sanders made those eyes bright and excited with an impressive performance in Cleveland's 30-10 win in Charlotte. Sanders, who hadn't taken any first-team reps at QB before getting the start on Friday, was poised, accurate and quite effective at the helm. He completed 14 of his 23 pass attempts, netting 138 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 19 yards. At least two of his passes were dropped by Browns receivers. Beyond the stats, Sanders played very well with his decision-making, his ability to run Kevin Stefanski's ball control offense and his ability to handle pressure--from the defense and from many vociferous critics just waiting for him to fail. This is an impressive Sunday throw to WR Kaden Davis for a touchdown: As Cory Kinnan from Browns Wire noted, Sanders was really dialed in outside the highlight plays, too, Some of his more impressive throws were not his scoring plays, either. Backed up inside his own 10, Sanders threw a dart from the endzone over the middle to convert a third-and-long. Right before the half on his second scoring drive, Sanders got on the move, evaded pressure, and layered a nice football down the sideline to Kent State alum Luke Floriea for a big gain. Sanders is battling with third-round pick Dillon Gabriel (who didn't play due to injury), veteran Kenny Pickett (also DNP with an injury) and venerable vet Joe Flacco in a four-way contest to earn Cleveland's starting QB role. Given his first real chance at running the show, Sanders put his best foot forward. This article originally appeared on Draft Wire: Shedeur Sanders impresses in his Browns preseason debut

Borussia Dortmund: Guirassy rules out move to Saudi Arabia
The Guinean striker denies receiving any offers from Saudi Pro League clubs Serhou Guirassy / Borussia Dortmund Serhou Guirassy has put an end to speculation about his future. The 29-year-old Guinean striker has officially denied persistent rumors linking him with a move to the Saudi Pro League during this summer transfer window. In an interview with German media, the former Stuttgart frontman clarified his situation. The Guinea international expressed his surprise at how widespread these rumors had become. Guirassy insists he has never been directly approached by representatives of Saudi clubs, specifying that such negotiations typically go through his brother and his agent. "There's often a lot of talk about a transfer to Saudi Arabia, but I haven't heard anything. People keep asking me about it, but I've never heard a thing. I don't deal with these matters myself. If anyone calls about it, my brother and my agent handle it. It's not my problem, so I can't say for sure if there was interest. Of course, it's possible, but I'm happy here at BVB and I want to win trophies," the Guinea international assured. These comments come as the Saudi Pro League continues to make enticing offers to lure European stars. Several media outlets had mentioned interest from Al-Hilal in the Guinean striker, but these reports have not been confirmed by the player's camp. Guirassy is thus committed to continuing with the Dortmund project after a brilliant 2024/25 season. Across 47 matches in all competitions, he scored 35 goals and provided 9 assists.

Former Barcelona boss Xavi sends message of support to under-fire Blaugrana star
Ex-Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernández has late this week sent a public message of support the way of Blaugrana goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen. This, of course, comes fresh off what was an altogether difficult week for the German in Catalunya's capital. Already under fire from all angles amid mounting claims regarding questionable recent behaviour, Ter Stegen over recent days emerged as public enemy number 1 at Barcelona. This came after the shot-stopper left the club hamstrung, in refusing to sign off on a medical report drawn up regarding his recent surgery. The Camp Nou brass, in turn, went as far as to strip Ter Stegen of the captain's armband in Hansi Flick's squad. The situation has since been resolved to at least some extent, with a change of heart on the part of the 33-year-old having culminated in his captaincy status being restored. Even prior to as much, though, Ter Stegen had already received the backing of the aforementioned Xavi. Taking to the comments section of his former teammate's heartfelt letter to the Barcelona fanbase on Friday, Blaugrana icon Xavi wrote: 'Always exemplary' Conor Laird – GSFN
