Chinese Hackers Exploit Microsoft Flaws, US Nuclear Agency Hit
Microsoft Corp. warned that Chinese state-sponsored hackers are among those exploiting flaws in its SharePoint software to break into institutions globally, with the US agency responsible for designing nuclear weapons now among those breached. In a blog post, the tech giant identified two groups supported by the Chinese government, Linen Typhoon and Violet Typhoon, as leveraging flaws in the document-sharing software that rendered customers who run it on their own networks, as opposed to in the cloud, vulnerable. Another hacking group based in China, which Microsoft calls Storm-2603, also exploited them, according to the blog.

Airo unveils development of new cargo drone with range of over 200 miles
- Airo has announced the development of a new cargo drone, as the firm looks to provide an alternative to traditional freight solutions like box trucks and tractor-trailers. In a statement, New Mexico-based Airo said the drone would be designed to carry between 250 to 500 pounds over distances of 200 miles or more. The aircraft, which would utilize technology from Airo's Jaunt electric air mobility segment, combines the "vertical takeoff capability of a helicopter with the cruise efficiency of a fixed-wing" plane, the company added. "[T]his cargo drone represents a strategic milestone -- delivering advanced air mobility solutions to customers sooner while building the foundation for potential future mixed-use and passenger services,' said Airo CEO Joe Burns. A ground control system which integrates real-time flight monitoring and secure communications management would also support the drone, Airo noted. Jaunt leader Martin Peryea called the aircraft an "innovative solution" that aims to serve both "remote and urban communities." Meanwhile, Airo outlined plans for Jaunt to spearhead the expansion of the group's operations into the YMX Innovation Zone, an area within a cargo airport in Quebec, Canada dedicated to aerospace research. Major industry players like Airbus, Safran (EPA:SAF), and Pratt & Whitney also have a presence at the site, according to Aeroports de Montreal. The strategic location will allow Jaunt to move products from concept to real-world deployment more efficiently, Airo said. "[W]e're creating a scalable, interoperable ecosystem that addresses both cargo and passenger needs. Our expansion into the YMX Innovation Zone accelerates this vision," said Airo Executive Chairman Chirinjeev Kathuria. Tuesday's announcement comes after Airo made its market debut in June, pricing its initial public offering of 6 million shares of its common stock at $10 per share. It closed on Monday at $22.89. Lucid Air owners will soon be able to use Tesla Superchargers — but there's a catch
Owners of the Lucid Air sedan will be able to charge their luxury EVs at thousands of Tesla Supercharger stations in North America starting July 31, nearly two years since the automakers reached an agreement. But there is a notable caveat: Lucid Air vehicles won't be able to charge as fast as Tesla vehicles. Switch Auto Insurance and Save Today! Affordable Auto Insurance, Customized for You Great Rates and Award-Winning Service The Insurance Savings You Expect Lucid said on Tuesday that all Lucid Air sedans, regardless of model year, will be able to access Tesla's network of fast chargers with an approved adapter that costs $220. Tesla V3 (and above) Supercharger stations are compatible with the Lucid Air adapter. However, the Air will only be able to charge at 50 kW, a far lower rate than the 250 kW peak rate that these Superchargers provide. The issue stems from a mismatch between Lucid's 924-volt charging system and the 400V Tesla Superchargers. Lucid, and any other EV with 800-volt charging systems, simply can't charge as fast as they might with chargers designed for them, as Consumer Reports notes. Lucid spokesperson Andrew Hussey explained that engineers repurposed hardware in the Air's integrated charging system, called Wunderbox, to make the system work and activate 50kW boost charging when using a Supercharger. He added that Lucid views the 50kW charging for Air as another option for owners who are on road trips, or live or work closer to Superchargers. Unlike the Lucid Gravity SUV, which launched earlier this year, the Air is still built with the Combined Charging System (CCS). The CCS was considered the go-to EV charging standard in North America and used by all automakers, with one notable exception. Tesla developed its own charging standard, which includes the built-in charging port on the vehicle as well as an EV charging connector. In 2022, Tesla shared its EV charging connector design in an effort to encourage network operators and automakers to adopt the technology, and help make it the new standard in North America. Tesla calls the standard the North America Charging Standard, or NACS. In May 2023, Ford became the first automaker to reach an agreement with Tesla that would give its EV owners access to the Supercharger network. Existing Ford EV owners would use an adapter to use the Tesla network. But Ford — and soon nearly every other automaker, including GM, Rivian, Honda, Mercedes, Hyundai, Kia, and Toyota — also agreed that its future EVs would have the NACS charging port built into its vehicles. Lucid was among the last companies to strike a deal with Tesla. And like the others, Lucid announced that its next EV, the Gravity SUV, would have a built-in NACS charging port.
