Six Maoists killed in encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur
A gunfight broke out in the afternoon in the forest of the Abujhmad region when joint teams of security forces were out on an anti-Maoist operation following inputs about the presence of ultras, State Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) P. Sundarraj said.
Operation underway
'Multiple exchanges of fire between the security forces and Maoists occurred since the afternoon. So far, the bodies of six Maoists have been recovered from the encounter site along with AK-47/SLR rifles, other weapons, explosive material and daily use items,' he said.
The operation is still underway, the officer added.
Hailing security forces, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, his government has been marching ahead firmly towards fulfilling the resolve of making the country completely Maoist-free by March 31, 2026.
'In a major operation by security forces, six Naxalites have been neutralised so far in Abujhmad of Narayanpur district. I congratulate all the brave jawans of the security forces involved in the operation and salute their indomitable courage,' he said in a statement.
'The valour of the jawans has further strengthened our resolve of 'Naxal Mukt Chhattisgarh'. Under the leadership of PM Modi ji and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah ji, we are moving forward firmly towards the accomplishment of the resolve of making the country completely Maoist-free by March 31, 2026,' the Chief Minister added.
With the latest action, 221 Maoists have been killed in separate encounters in Chhattisgarh so far this year. Of them, 204 were eliminated in the Bastar division, which includes districts of Bijapur, Bastar, Kanker, Konadagaon, Narayanpur, Sukma, and Dantewada.
Notably, anti-Maoist operations have intensified in Chhattisgarh since the BJP was elected to power in the 2023 Assembly polls.
More than 420 Maoist cadres, including senior functionaries, have been gunned down by security forces in separate encounters during this period.

90 weapons, ammunition seized by security forces in Manipur
Written by Leivon Jimmy As a part of their continued efforts to recover looted weapons, security forces in Manipur made another significant recovery of a large number of firearms and ammunition in separate search operations conducted on Saturday. Speaking to reporters, Kabib K, Inspector General of Police, said 90 weapons, along with ammunition and explosives, were recovered during multiple search operations conducted in Bishnupur, Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, and Kakching districts. The IG termed the recovery a major accomplishment for the Manipur Police and security forces in restoring peace in the state after ethnic violence broke out in 2023. He said the operations were carried out simultaneously by a joint team of security forces, acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding concealed weapons in various locations throughout the valley districts. The joint team comprised Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF) and the Assam Rifles. The recovered items include three AK series rifles, a light machine gun, five rifles, four self-loading rifles, and 20 pistols. The joint team also recovered 728 pieces of assorted ammunition, including 21 hand grenades and six improvised explosive devices (IDEs), among others. While some of the recovered items include weapons looted from the state's armouries, the IG did not give the exact figure. Miscreants looted over 6,000 weapons and over one lakh ammunition were looted from state forces' armouries since ethnic violence erupted in the state on May 3, 2023. On July 15, the Manipur Police, in another joint operation, recovered 86 weapons and several rounds of ammunition. The recovery was made during search operations conducted across multiple valley districts based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the peripheral and vulnerable areas of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts. The seizure included five AK series rifles, three rifles, 16 self-loading rifles, five .303 rifles, 19 pistols, two carbines, nine other rifles, 16 SBBL and bore action guns, two anti-riot guns, one JVPC, one double-barrel gun, six bolt-action guns, and a 2-inch mortar. On July 4, the forces seized 203 weapons and explosives during joint search operations in the hill districts of Manipur. Before that, in another operation, 328 guns and 8,665 assorted ammunition were recovered.

Ashok Gajapathi Raju takes oath as Goa Governor
Former Union Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju was sworn in as the Governor of Goa on Saturday (July 26, 2025), succeeding P.S. Sreedharan Pillai. Mr. Raju was administered the oath of office at Raj Bhavan by Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Alok Aradhe. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and other dignitaries attended the event. Mr. Raju, 74, said he would follow the Constitution of India while serving the people. 'We all work as a team, and I am very delighted that I am associated with Goans,' he said. 'Though I don't understand the local language and this is my first assignment in this (gubernatorial) office, I have had a long innings in the political set-up. I was a seven-time legislator in Andhra Pradesh before it was bifurcated into two states,' he said. Referring to his political career, Mr. Raju said he had a short tenure in Parliament. 'I have been in and out as a minister in the government and also sat in the opposition. I have wide experience,' the Governor added. A veteran Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader from Andhra Pradesh, Raju served as the Civil Aviation Minister between May 27, 2014 and March 10, 2018. He has also held ministerial posts in the Andhra Pradesh government. Later, addressing reporters, Mr. Raju said he was looking forward to working with the people of Goa. 'I am looking forward to working for you, or rather, I should say 'working with you. 'For' is a mind terminology, but (I prefer to say) 'with you' because if people don't work with the government, democracy suffers. We don't want that situation. We want everyone to work unitedly,' he added. He appealed to people to take India forward by working together. 'India will be second to none in the world'. Mr. Pillai had completed four years in the gubernatorial position in Goa. He was accorded a farewell on Thursday (July 24, 2025).

Jharkhand: 3 Maoists killed in encounter with security forces in Gumla district
Ranchi: Three suspected Maosits were killed in a gun battle with security forces under in Jharkhand's Gumla district on Saturday, people aware of the development said. The security forces recovered three automatic rifles including an AK-47 from the site, he added.
