On today's Beyond The Gates recap:
Fairmont Country Club – Dining Room: Hayley tells Chelsea she understands why she wants her parents to reconcile. Chelsea gets all kinds of snarky asking how she would know as she is an orphan (damn!). Hayley thinks it's time to set the record straight since a new little Hamilton is on the way. Bill confirms saying there is no way in hell he's returning to Dani. With that, Chelsea storms off. Hayley apologizes for being rough with Chelsea, but Bill gets it. Just then, Martin arrives and says he has business to discuss with Bill.
Hayley says she needs to check her voicemails and gives Bill and Martin some space to talk. Bill rightfully guesses Martin is confronting him about his chat with Smitty and asks if there is trouble in 'pride paradise.' (Oh Bill…) Martin can't believe he engaged Smitty as he is a reporter who is trained to ask questions. He reminds Martin he is no position to push someone who knows what he knows.
Martin wants to understand why Bill would dangle his huge sin in front of Smitty in the way he did. Bill says he's not trying to send any particular message, only a reminder that someday they might have a connection which could be mutually beneficial. Bill says Vernon and Anita know his services come with a price. He never wants Martin to forget how he cleaned up his mess that night and made his life right again.
Fairmont Country Club – Lobby: Hayley takes a seat to check her voicemails when Naomi and Jacob arrive, fresh from playing basketball. Naomi spots Hayley and approaches. Hayley says she is there with Bill as they are celebrating. Naomi walks away and Hayley wonders why her former friend isn't asking why. Hayley reminds her former friend they used to tell each other everything. Naomi says their friendship expired when Hayley decided her dad was a better catch than her best friend. Hayley says Naomi isn't being fair and misses her best friend but Naomi isn't on the same page and decides it's time to go (good moment there when Hayley looks genuinely hurt that she can't share good news with her former friend).
Bill says they are done and tells him to stand down. Just then, Hayley re-enters the room and says Martin should join them for a drink. Bill says Martin is done and leaving but before he leaves, he makes mention of Hayley's pregnancy. Martin turns around and starts a slow clap and declares Bill the crown prince of moral bankruptcy. He turns to Hayley saying he might have done something horrendous one night, but her husband continues to use it as a business opportunity.
As everyone looks on, Bill reminds Martin to mind his surroundings. Martin tells Hayley he thinks her husband is worried about his reputation as folks might finally see him for the vulture he is. He tells her not to ignore the great Bill Hamilton and lists his sins one by one, including her as his side piece. Hayley thinks they should go and Martin says she should run screaming as that child should be protected before it turns into an arrogant bastard like its father. With that, Bill stands up and chokes the ever-loving fire out of Martin. Suddenly, Martin makes his apologies to Hayley and exits (Wait, I'm very confused. Was that all a fantasy sequence? What just happened?). As Martin exits, the wait staff man grabs his phone and follows.
Hayley says sometimes Bill scares her and he admits he often scares himself. Bill reminds Hayley of times he helped the Dupree family, including when he helped Ted with his problematic girlfriend (From a continuity perspective, didn't Hayley just learn this information?). Hayley immediately remembers the situation and wonders whether to refer to that particular woman as Dana or Leslie. Bill tells her to let go of all that mess and focus on the new Hamilton baby.
Martin and Smitty's Place: Jessica and Tyrell continue to kiss when Samantha walks in and quickly exits. For some reason, he apologizes to Jessica and gets up. He says he thought he took advantage of her when Jessica reminds him that she kissed him. She tries to grab his hand and Tyrell pulls away. Jessica admits she's experiencing all kinds of anxiety and wants to know what's up. He thinks Jessica simply feels sorry for him after all the trauma he experienced at school. Tyrell thinks girls like him don't usually come around him and thinks there must be another reason for her interest.
Samantha has her laundry and TIDE in a basket as she listens in on the conversation between her brother and his not girlfriend. Tyrell explains he's never had rizz as he is very much the opposite. He says he doesn't understand why she's with him and and this point she doesn't either. Tyrell asks if she's playing a social media prank and that's the last straw. Jessica says she is done and apologizes for catching feelings for someone but now realizes he is simply toxic insecure trash. As she gathers her stuff and exits, Smitty walks in.
Smitty questions the situation, but Tyrell has nothing to say. Just then, Samantha returns and asks where Jessica went. Smitty said she couldn't leave fast enough but has no clue what's going on. Tyrell becomes a complete ass before heading upstairs, leaving his father and sister to wonder what in the world is happening.
Orphey Gene's: Derek and Ashley take a seat, and he wonders why they chose this particular place for their date. She says this place is where they finally decided to fix their relationship. They chat about a possible sleepover and get a wee snarky about their previous living arrangement. With that, Derek pulls out her house key and slides it across the table. Ashley knows they need to work through some things but is still surprised he surrendered his key. She sends it back his way and makes another reference to her 'neat and tidy' apartment. She confronts him and Derek says he's making fun of himself and loves her standards. He just hates he keeps disappointing her. Ashley is willing to admit she's a bit controlling but thinks they should want more than living apart. They join hands and Derek says happiness looks different for different folks. Just then, Naomi and Jacob arrive on the scene. Ashley and Derek tell their friends they've decided they love each other too much to live together. Naomi and Jacob seem to be very happy that Derek and Ashley are back on good terms without actually asking any questions.
Naomi makes note Ashley and Derek should have been around when she and Jacob tried to blend households. Jacob has no clue about what she is speaking but Derek and Ashley kind of get it. With that, Naomi admits she had huge growing pains when she moved in with Jacob… even though he didn't quite understand the situation in the same way. Ashley sides with Naomi whilst Derek puts his money on Naomi.
Jacob heads off to field a call and promises to wait for Kat until she gets there. At the table, Naomi talks to Ashley and Derek about June and how she collapsed at the table. They are all amazed to realize her back story was completely ripped from the headlines. With that, Naomi, Derek and Ashley decide it's time to go. Jacob tells Naomi he has to stick around, and they all make their exit.
Dani's Home: Chelsea arrives, and Dani says she was about to call her. Before Chelsea can talk, Dani begins to talk about a social influencer who wants to work with her. After he saw her scene at Bill and Hayley's wedding, he wants to work with a 'shotgun wedding' momentum. Chelsea tries again to speak but Dani continues saying she would love to profit from her ex-husband's momentum. Chelsea finally grabs a moment to speak and asks her mother to take a seat. Dani keeps talking over her daughter when Chelsea is finally able to say Hayley is pregnant.
Dani is somewhat surprised but calms it by saying she guesses Chelsea and Naomi will now be big sisters. Chelsea is surprised her mother didn't lose her s*** but Dani says she has to find a way to cope. Chelsea appreciates her mother's calm but notes she wasn't quite so reasonable when she heard the news. Dani says it makes total sense they are pregnant and fits the mold for Bill and Hayley's relationship. Dani suddenly gets less calm and wonders if Hayley has a side piece and utilized his vital sperm when she was ovulating (Not Dani saying Hayley couldn't possibly have cultivated a taste for AARP!).
Dani looks online and is surprised not to see an announcement about the pregnancy. Chelsea notes she just told her father, but Dani says Hayley has been planning this moment for a while and would have planned this roll out very far in advanced. She halts her thought process and Chelsea wonders what's up. Dani thinks it's a possibility that Hayley is completely faking this pregnancy. As Dani loses her s***, Chelsea freaks out more and more at her mother's reaction.
Dani pulls out her good liquor in an attempt to toast the happy couple. Chelsea wants to rewind to when she wasn't buying the pregnancy story. She wonders what Hayley would gain by faking such a thing. Dani thinks she's only trying to gain sympathy which works brilliantly in some place like Fairmont Crest.
Chelsea asks if her mother actually thinks Hayley is lying or if she just can't deal with the possibility of a new Hamilton baby.
Martin and Smitty's Place – Living Room: Martin arrives home to find Smitty, once again, awaiting his arrival. Martin asks about the kids and Smitty says they're ok and briefly mentions Tyrell and Jessica. Martin is dismissive and says Smitty will clearly get to the bottom of things. Smitty understands Martin hunted down Bill because he knows how his mind works.
Previous Beyond The Gates Recap:

The AI copyright standoff continues - with no solution in sight

The fierce battle over artificial intelligence (AI) and copyright - which pits the government against some of the biggest names in the creative industry - returns to the House of Lords on Monday with little sign of a solution in sight. A huge row has kicked off between ministers and peers who back the artists, and shows no sign of abating. It might be about AI but at its heart are very human issues: jobs and creativity. It's highly unusual that neither side has backed down by now or shown any sign of compromise; in fact if anything support for those opposing the government is growing rather than tailing off. This is "unchartered territory", one source in the peers' camp told me. The argument is over how best to balance the demands of two huge industries: the tech and creative sectors. More specifically, it's about the fairest way to allow AI developers access to creative content in order to make better AI tools - without undermining the livelihoods of the people who make that content in the first place. What's sparked it is the uninspiringly-titled Data (Use and Access) Bill. This proposed legislation was broadly expected to finish its long journey through parliament this week and sail off into the law books. Instead, it is currently stuck in limbo, ping-ponging between the House of Lords and the House of Commons. The bill states that AI developers should have access to all content unless its individual owners choose to opt out. Nearly 300 members of the House of Lords disagree. They think AI firms should be forced to disclose which copyrighted material they use to train their tools, with a view to licensing it. Sir Nick Clegg, former president of global affairs at Meta, is among those broadly supportive of the bill, arguing that asking permission from all copyright holders would "kill the AI industry in this country". Those against include Baroness Beeban Kidron, a crossbench peer and former film director, best known for making films such as Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. She says ministers would be "knowingly throwing UK designers, artists, authors, musicians, media and nascent AI companies under the bus" if they don't move to protect their output from what she describes as "state sanctioned theft" from a UK industry worth £124bn. She's asking for an amendment to the bill which includes Technology Secretary Peter Kyle giving a report to the House of Commons about the impact of the new law on the creative industries, three months after it comes into force, if it doesn't change. Mr Kyle also appears to have changed his views about UK copyright law. He said copyright law was once "very certain", but is now "not fit for purpose". Perhaps to an extent both those things are true. The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology say that they're carrying out a wider consultation on these issues and will not consider changes to the Bill unless they're completely satisfied that they work for creators. If the "ping pong" between the two Houses continues, there's a small chance the entire bill could be shelved; I'm told it's unlikely but not impossible. If it does, some other important elements would go along with it, simply because they are part of the same bill. It also includes proposed rules on the rights of bereaved parents to access their children's data if they die, changes to allow NHS trusts to share patient data more easily, and even a 3D underground map of the UK's pipes and cables, aimed at improving the efficiency of roadworks (I told you it was a big bill). There is no easy answer. Here's how it all started. Initially, before AI exploded into our lives, AI developers scraped enormous quantities of content from the internet, arguing that it was in the public domain already and therefore freely available. We are talking about big, mainly US, tech firms here doing the scraping, and not paying for anything they hoovered up. Then, they used that data to train the same AI tools now used by millions to write copy, create pictures and videos in seconds. These tools can also mimic popular musicians, writers, artists. For example, a recent viral trend saw people merrily sharing AI images generated in the style of the Japanese animation firm Studio Ghibli. The founder of that studio meanwhile, had once described the use of AI in animation as "an insult to life itself". Needless to say, he was not a fan. There has been a massive backlash from many content creators and owners including household names like Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney and Dua Lipa. They have argued that taking their work in this way, without consent, credit or payment, amounted to theft. And that artists are now losing work because AI tools can churn out similar content freely and quickly instead. Sir Elton John didn't hold back in a recent interview with the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg. He argued that the government was on course to "rob young people of their legacy and their income", and described the current administration as "absolute losers". Others though point out that material made by the likes of Sir Elton is available worldwide. And if you make it too hard for AI companies to access it in the UK they'll simply do it elsewhere instead, taking much needed investment and job opportunities with them. ‘60 Minutes' has history of cozy interviews and self-promotion

Beware of those who publicly declare that their stuff doesn't stink. Recently, CBS newsman and '60 Minutes' regular Scott Pelley made news and noise when he seized the close of the venerable program to deliver an appeal, threat or whatever, depending on how one heard it, to CBS News parent Paramount, as it was reportedly preparing to settle a lawsuit brought last year by President Trump over the show's very cozy interview with VP Kamala Harris during last year's presidential campaign. Pelley cited the week's resignation of '60 Minutes' executive producer, Bill Owens, adding, 'Paramount began to supervise our content in new ways. None of our stories has been blocked, but Bill felt he lost the independence that honest journalism requires. … Bill made sure they were accurate and fair. Advertisement 'He was tough that way, but our parent company Paramount is trying to complete a merger. The Trump administration must approve it.'

Who Will Slip and Tell Bill His Son Is Dying on Bold and the Beautiful?

Right now on Bold and the Beautiful, only a few know Liam is living on borrowed time, but the truth is starting to leak like a sieve. What began as a private moment between Liam, Steffy, and Grace has turned into a tangled web of whispered confessions and hallway run-ins. Despite efforts to keep things under wraps, the list of those in the know keeps growing…and so does the risk of someone slipping. The biggest surprise? Dollar Bill (Don Diamont) still doesn't know. That's right – Dollar Bill, the fiercely loyal, wildly emotional, and sometimes unpredictable patriarch, is completely in the dark. And fans are on edge wondering not if he'll find out, but how… and who will break the news. MORE: Find out what happened last on B&B. Hope (Annika Noelle) got the news from Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and has already spilled to Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor), which was a risky move considering how close he is to so many Forresters. Taylor (Rebecca Budig) knows now, too and she's not great at keeping explosive secrets to herself. If Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) hears it next, you can bet it'll find its way into Bill's ear – intentionally or not. Then there's Bridget (Ashley Jones), who literally stumbled upon Liam and has to be bursting to talk to someone medical about what she knows. Could it be Finn (Tanner Novlan) who accidentally tips off Bill in a well-meaning conversation about family? Or what if Grace (Cassandra Creech), overwhelmed by the emotional weight, vents to someone in confidence who happens to know Bill? And let's not count out Steffy – her heart is in the right place, but she's already told too many people for this to stay contained. Maybe, just maybe, Liam will sit his father down and tell him the horrible news. He came close when they hugged it out at Il Giardino, but he simply could not bring himself to do it. (Did you miss that episode? Read all about it here.) However, after that talk with Finn about his love for his family and yearning for support, maybe that's a decision he'll soon rethink. No matter who says it, once Bill finds out, all bets are off. Will he rally around Liam, or will he rage against the people who kept him in the dark? Either way, the Spencer family is about to face one of its most emotional reckonings yet.
