Beyond The Gates Recap: Anita Demands The Truth From Vernon

Beyond The Gates Recap: Anita Demands The Truth From Vernon originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Beyond The Gates recap: Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Vernon tells Anita the surviving attacker returned to the area. He got a job as a bus boy at the country club and listened in on their conversations. He says the man has been back for more than a month. Anita is furious he kept the secret and demands to know every detail. Vernon says he tried to pay the man off but things spun out of control. He says the man tried to get to Martin through his children but did them no harm. Martin scheduled a press conference to take all responsibility. He didn't go through with it because the man is dead, gunned down in a robbery (Not Vernon continuing to lie to Anita!). Anita turns and asked if he made this happen. Vernon says he had nothing to do with that man's death. He also wanted to stay out of it so he left the details up to Bill. Anita tells Vernon he couldn't have known Bill would resort to murder. Vernon continues by telling her the Joey Armstrong of it all. She hates that Martin and Joey are now tied together forever. Anita wonders if the press got wind of anything, but Vernon says Martin ended the presser before anything got out. That being said, it's all a mess and Dani and Nicole are going to have questions. She thinks Nicole is going to be especially difficult to deal with. Vernon wonders if they should have included her the entire time since Martin and Ted are so intricately involved. Anita worries Nicole will pull away when she learns more secrets have been kept from her. Martin and Smitty's Place: Smitty has no clue how Kenneth could be dead then wonders if Martin had something to do with it. Martin vehemently denies any involvement. He realized to protect his family he needed to admit the truth. Martin was ready to go through with revealing all at a presser but then learned Kenneth was deceased. Smitty isn't stupid and knows someone made this happen to help him. Martin says the only thing he knows is his grandfather wasn't a part of Kenneth's murder. Smitty starts to ask who did kill Kenneth but stops as he's certain Martin already knows. Martin says his family didn't tell him what was going on (True, but he sort of knows who's responsible). Smitty counters saying Martin knew Malone was involved and then hired him to protect their family. Martin says he doesn't know if Malone was involved in today's events. Smitty asks about Joey and Smitty admits he was at the press conference and doesn't think it was a coincidence. As they continue to argue, Samantha and Tyrell march downstairs and demand to know what's going on. Smitty begs the kids to go back upstairs but Tyrell says they deserve to know what's going on. Martin agrees and says he will fill them in. Martin tells them the story of that fateful night two years ago, while smoothing over many of the details. Smitty watches as Tyrell and Samantha go to search their phones for details. Martin says they didn't report the incident to the police which confuses the kids. Martin didn't think the police in that area would believe they were acting in self-defense. He then reveals the man was Kenneth. Both kids are stunned and wonder why, like Smitty, their pop didn't tell them the truth. Martin says it was better for them not to know for their protection. Samantha asks what they do about Kenneth now but Martin says he's gone. Tyrell and Samantha have all kinds of questions about the presser and Kenneth. Smitty intervenes and says their pop waited too long but finally decided to tell the truth about the situation. Samantha thinks pop's plan worked as Kenneth probably ran when he realized how much trouble he would be in. Tyrell jumps in asking why he ended the press conference early. Martin simply says Kenneth is gone. Samantha wants so badly to crush the conflict saying she's so happy everything has been settled and they can go back to normal. Smitty says he's going to need a little more time. Samantha can't imagine why and doesn't want her dad to punish her pop for being the hero. Smitty says he's not trying to punish anyone and Tyrell backs him saying pop has been lying to them from the beginning. Samantha backs Martin who steps in saying her dad and brother have a right to be upset. Martin says it's going to take more than apologies to fix what is broken. Smitty says he can't make any promises about what's to come. With that, Martin says he won't be far, takes his bags and exits. Samantha rolls her eyes and heads upstairs. Tyrell follows saying he will talk to her. Nicole's Home: Vanessa arrives to see Nicole and says her blood pressure is up after dealing with 'that bitch' Leslie. She explains about the scene at Orphey Gene's after confronting Leslie about Laura. She hates she didn't just walk away. Vanessa is certain Leslie deserved whatever words Nicole threw her way. Nicole admits she threw more than insults as she came close to strangling Leslie. Vanessa thinks she was justified. Vanessa says no one is talking about her and Leslie as all are focused on Martin and his very odd presser. Nicole is strangely unaware of this event which puzzles Vanessa. Nicole grabs her tablet and finds some news. She immediately wonders why Bill was there, which also surprised Vanessa. She says Bill was acting like his spokesman and was very supportive of Martin. Vanessa fills Nicole in on all the details. Nicole is beyond annoyed her family didn't bring her in the loop. Vanessa thinks Martin is in trouble and suggests she not wait for an invitation to get involved. Nicole thanks her friend and heads out to find Martin. Fairmont Country Club: Dani and Bill continue to snark and chat. Bill tells Dani to stand down as he's met his 'read for filth' quota for the day. Dani realizes Vernon's words really cut Bill, who says her father cut him to the core. He admits he still desires her father's approval and is annoyed it's still the case. Dani isn't buying it as Bill is so cold. She notes the only person whose approval he's ever needed was his own father, who only withheld it because Bill wanted it so badly (Oooooh, a mention of Bill's father!). Bill says approval and respect are different. What he wants from Vernon is respect. Martin and Smitty's Place: Nicole arrives and promises not to always stop by unexpectedly. Smitty is happy to see her but she recognizes things are not well. Samantha runs downstairs and greets her grandmother. She asks about Martin and Smitty says he's not staying there right now. Nicole is rightfully surprised and hugs Samantha when she learns these events just happened a few minutes prior. She mentions the press conference and Smitty says that was about something Martin should explain himself. Nicole tells Samantha her family adores and supports her. She looks at Smitty and says that sentiment is for everyone. Smitty thanks his mother-in-law. Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Vernon tells Anita that Smitty was assigned to write a profile of Malone. It was intended to be a puff piece but Smitty did a deep dive, uncovering Malone's connection to Joey. He continues saying that deep dive led Smitty to connect to Jacob who joined the investigation. Anita can't even imagine what Smitty will do with the information as he built his career on uncovering corruption. Vernon thinks Smitty's sense of loyalty will come before his career. Just then, Martin storms in with his bags. Martin says he gave the kids a sanitized version of what happened, but told Smitty everything… which is why he's there. Anita says it was unfair of them to pressure him to keep everything from his husband. Martin counters he should have told Smitty everything two years ago but he would have never gone along with covering it up. Vernon realized he was dead wrong to set the coverup in motion. Anita pushes back but Vernon says they could have dealt with the situation despite the consequences. If they'd done so, there wouldn't be another death on their hands. With that, Vernon says the situation is different now. They can't come forward or Joey will retaliate. Martin and Smitty's Place: Jacob arrives and tells Smitty an unidentified man was found dead by a single gun shot wound in the park, discovered by Malone. Smitty tries his best to avoid making connections but Jacob says he thinks there's a connection to Joey. Smitty thinks the connection is a stretch which confuses Jacob. He continues saying there has to be a larger issue going on here. Smitty doesn't disagree but says he's kind of done for the night. Jacob realizes something is going on and Smitty admits Martin moved out. Upstairs, Samantha tells Tyrell she doesn't understand why he and dad are so mad at pop. Tyrell says they can have differing opinions. Samantha thinks their parents should just forgive each other and be done. Tyrell says dad will eventually forgive pop. Previous Beyond The Gates Recap: Endings Samantha calls Tyrell a hypocrite because he wanted folks to stay out of his business. Tyrell rightfully says that situation was very different. He says Kenneth was dangerous and no one knew. Samantha admits pop should have informed them sooner but no harm no foul. Tyrell says there is way more going on than they know about. Jacob asks Smitty about Martin not being there. Smitty thinks it's for the best right now as he doesn't recognize the man he's become. Jacob says he and Naomi will do whatever they can to be supportive before making his exit. Martin tells his grandparents Smitty understands the entire situation which is why he's upset. He is trapped in a situation not of his own making. Vernon offers to talk to Smitty but Martin says to give him the time he asked for. Anita says they will support him no matter what. Just then, Nicole storms in and demands to know what the hell is going on. Keep checking back for the latest Beyond The Gates recaps! Beyond The Gates Recap: Martin Tells Smitty The Truth About Two Years Ago

Beyond The Gates Recap: Martin Tells Smitty The Truth About Two Years Ago originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Beyond The Gates recap: Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Anita arrives home and immediately ignores a call (Tracy?). She calls out for Vernon but gets no response. Orphey Gene's: Bill, Martin and Vernon are chatting. Martin can't believe Kenneth is dead and his nightmare is over. Bill lies and says Kenneth was at the wrong place at the wrong time and is dead. Either way, it works well for them. Vernon remembers back to a few minutes ago when he saw Malone with a gun pointed at Kenneth. Martin can't believe he almost burned his whole world to the ground. Martin grabs Bill's phone when he realizes the picture of dead Kenneth was sent to him at the perfect time. Bill tells him to focus on the two-year weight that has been lifted from his shoulders. Martin doesn't think the weigh has been lifted. Kenneth may be dead but his nightmares will remain. He won't be free until he stands in his truth. Bill wants his nephew to straighten things out with his family but thinks going public is crazy. Martin thinks he's seeing everything clearly as he looks around the room and sees Joey and suspects either Malone or the Chief of Police is in on the situation. Just then, reporters approach and ask about the cancellation of the presser. He doesn't make a comment and they are ushered out. Martin mouths off at both Bill and Vernon before storming out. Joey won't reveal any more details. He says his business is such that he can't tell her every little thing. He knows she gets turned on by the rush, but Vanessa wants to be the judge of what she can handle. Vernon is furious with Bill for not calling off his thugs. Bill shoots back that his 'self-righteous ass' heard what he wanted. Money wasn't going to fix anything and a more permanent solution was necessary. Vernon says his entire family is now an accessory to murder. Bill shoots back saying he's not that sloppy. They continue to snipe back and forth until Vernon stops him saying, 'we both know who really holds the power in this room.' With that, he exits. Vanessa pushes Joey about being his alibi. He tries to charm her but to no avail. She says she's involved with the Duprees and wants to know every dirty detail of whatever is going on. Joey tries to get out of telling her anything but Vanessa pushes. He gets close and says they disposed of a very bad man. Malone arrives and Vanessa makes a spectacle of calling him over to their table. She looks at him and says she hears the evening has been quite productive. Vanessa gets snarky with Malone and Joey about the adrenaline rush of the night's activities. She continues but Joey yells, 'ENOUGH!' Joey says if she ever brings up his business in this way again things will not end well for her. Martin and Smitty's Place: Samantha is beyond irked they are just sitting and waiting for pop. Smitty reminds her and Tyrell that their pop made a choice, and he chose to leave. Smitty's phone rings. He says it's not their pop but he still needs to take it. His boss fills Smitty in on Martin's press conference and how it was quickly cancelled. Next, Smitty gets a call from a reporter at the presser who asks about the family emergency. He knows better than to answer and quickly hangs up. Martin returns and finds his family waiting and his bags at the door. He begs Smitty to let him explain. Smitty is not trying to hear any of it and can only focus on the secrets and lies. Samantha and Tyrell are just happy their pop is home, but their dad is on a roll. Martin says he's done with the secrets and hiding. He asks the kids to leave the room, but Smitty stops him. They've all been impacted by Martin's deception and deserve to know the truth. Samantha agrees to go upstairs, and Tyrell reluctantly follows. Martin apologizes to Smitty, but he only wants to know what happened two years ago. Martin goes directly into the story. He and Vernon were at a political event. On the way back, they took a wrong turn. Flashback: Martin is driving and talking to Vernon about life on the political trail. Just then, they get a flat tire. In real-time, Martin says they were alone on a dark, deserted country road. Flashback: Martin gets out of the car and opens the trunk to get the spare tire. Just then, a car approaches and pulls up behind them. Kenneth and presumably his brother get out and size up the situation. Vernon hops out and thanks them for stopping but says their foot to go. Kenneth says they can help but not for free. He asks how much money they have. Vernon mentions calling the police to help. The brother gets too close to Martin who pulls back the tire iron as if to strike him. The brother says, 'let's see what color's your money.' Kenneth goes for Vernon while the brother goes after Martin. Kenneth pulls a gun and Martin knocks him to the ground with the tire iron. The brother comes for him and Martin knocks him down, as well. Martin then jumps on top of the brother and beats him until blood splatters all over his shirt. Vernon begs him to stop and then pulls him off. Vernon reaches down and says the brother is dead and Kenneth is unconscious. In real-time, Smitty is in shock but Martin says there's more. He isn't even certain what happened afterwards as he was in shock. Smitty begs him not to shut down now. Martin says his grandfather knew who to call to make everything disappear. Smitty knows he means Malone. Martin confirms and says he showed up with Chief Hawthorne right behind him. His grandfather told the Chief to get him out of there and he drove him home, which is when Smitty saw him in a disheveled state. Smitty knew something serious had gone down. Martin says he was in his grandfather's clothes because there was so much blood. He admits he killed a man, snuffing his life out like it was nothing. He continues to see what he did to Kenneth's face in his nightmares. Smitty asks about the dead body and the witness to the crime. He asks if Martin was a part of the cover up. Martin says he went along with all of it, even when Joey was brought in. Smitty realizes that's when Malone's bank account blew up. Martin explains his rage. When he saw the white man lay hands on his grandfather, he couldn't control himself. The rage exploded against the situation and the hatred of those two men. Smitty is in tears as he can't believe Martin has lived with this much pain for so long. With that, the two embrace. Martin asks if Smitty wants to hear the rest and he says yes. Martin says Kenneth was one of the two men. He just found out Ted was called in for the plastic surgery and Kenneth was given money to start a new life overseas. He always worried Kenneth would return and he did, weeks ago. Martin explains he was working at the country club but he didn't realize who he was, until Kenneth made contact. Smitty begins to breathe like a bull when he realizes Martin kept quiet despite the danger looming over their father. Martin says granddad insisted but Smitty isn't hearing it. He is beside himself knowing how Martin's inaction kept them in all kinds of danger as they walked around oblivious. Smitty reminds Martin of how he held him through every nightmare and begged to be let in. Even so, Martin should have told him immediately when Kenneth returned. Smitty says he should have protected them but he failed. Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Vernon arrives home and is thrilled to find Anita waiting for him. She can tell something is wrong and asks him to tell her everything. Vernon is evasive asking all kinds of questions about Chicago. Anita stops him dead as she wants to know what is going on. Fairmont Country Club: Bill is drinking when Dani approaches. Previous Beyond The Gates Recap: Endings Vanessa wants to leave but Joey holds her there until he checks in with Malone. Afterwards, Joey grabs Vanessa and the two get all kinds of dangerous in public. Dani and Bill drink together and she asks what's wrong. After they go back and forth a bit, Bill admits her daddy raked him over the coals. Dani says if her father gave it to him hard then he knew Bill could take it. Further, she thinks Bill and her father compliment each other but he disagrees. Vernon tells Anita the night from two years ago has all come back, and Martin is drowning. Martin admits the worst choice he made through the last two years was not being honest with him. Smitty believes him and is horrified by what his husband experienced. He can even understand Martin maintaining the lie until a few weeks ago. His loyalty should have been to his family. Smitty looks upstairs towards the children and tells Martin he needs to go as he is a danger to the family. They argue back and forth until Martin admits Kenneth is dead. Beyond The Gates Recap: Vanessa and Doug Stop Joey From Killing Randy

Beyond The Gates Recap: Vanessa and Doug Stop Joey From Killing Randy originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Beyond The Gates recap: Police Department: Jacob and Smitty are chatting over coffee. Jacob is stunned at how forthcoming Malone has been with information that day. He thinks the good detective is absolutely shook. They both agree his dad and Malone are running interference. Smitty says he wanted Malone to know he was the one who hacked his accounts. Jacob is impressed he was playing the veteran cop like a fiddle. Smitty wants them to remember that something major must have gone down to result in a payment of 500 grand. Smitty asks if Jacob is still in and they get back to breaking down the information they know. They think all the information they know doesn't add up. Smitty wonders if Malone was at the station that night two years ago. Jacob pulls up time logs and notes the day before the incident Jacob took his detective exam and was there late. He flashes back and remembers running into (Malone?). They chat a bit more before Smitty makes his exit. Just then, Elon walks up behind him. He asks his son if everything is ok and Jacob flashes back to running into his father that night two years ago. Jacob recounts some of the information Smitty has on Malone but Elon thinks the reporter is trying to dig up trouble. Jacob disagrees and wonders if his father knows what Smitty will find. Elon is evasive and Jacob says he remembers the night two years prior because he took the detectives exam. He remembers running smack into his father when he was in street clothes which is the same night Martin came home to Smitty looking completely frazzled. Jacob reminds his father that he molded him as a police officer. Elon always told his son to stand on justice even if it hurts. He asks his father again what happened that night. Martin and Smitty's Place: Samantha arrives home to an annoyed Martin. He says she will be staying home the rest of the evening and Tyrell fills her in on the Kenneth of it all. Martin says, as a Congressman, sometimes folks target him and his family. He's not providing them details but is simply trying to keep folks safe. Samantha and Tyrell are made nervous by Martin's behavior and head upstairs. Afterwards, Martin checks the doors and sits on the sofa with a baseball bat. Joey's Gambling Pit: Malone hauls Randy in to take his punishment from Joey. He thought he knew the rules of the game and wonders when and why he went rogue. Randy says he just needed a little money to start over and was then going to pay him back. Malone indicates he found Randy at the international terminal about to leave for Bali. Joey makes it very clear that Randy is headed to a very cold climate (six feet under). Randy scrambles saying he tried to take out Kenneth but only nicked him. When he got away, he knew he hadn't done his job. Randy wanted to get away until he could figure out how to finish the job. He reminds Joey this is the first time he messed up. Joey says he is useless but Randy promises he can still do the job. Joey indicates he will not get another chance but will leave his kid and the mother alone. Malone is told to escort Randy out just as Doug and Vanessa arrive. Randy tells them to get gone and Joey concurs. Vanessa recognizes Malone and wonders what Internal Affairs will think about his moonlighting gig. Joey asks for the room and Malone exits. Doug stands up for Randy saying he has his back. Joey tells them to mind their own business. Vanessa and Doug say they followed Randy to the airport and saw Malone cart him back here. Joey says the conversation is over. Vanessa agrees and says they are leaving with Randy in tow. Joey pushes back when Vanessa says harming Randy will cost him and references their business connection. She says all will work well if Randy remains alive and is allowed to relocate. Joey relents and agrees to leave Randy alone for now. He tells Vanessa to stay as Doug and Randy exit. Uptown: Dani walks over to Andre and Ashley's table and takes a seat. She's surprised to see them together. Ashley and Andre get all kinds of awkward as they aren't on the same page with how they're defining their get together. Dani wonders if Ashley is just another notch on Andre's bedpost. Andre begins double speak saying there was a woman he got close to but she was too focused on the past to move on with him. Dani asks what drew him to this woman and Andre says she was a lot like her. Ashley thinks anyone who lets Andre slip through her fingers is crazy. Dani says their words are valid. They go back and forth with this game long enough that one wonders why Ashley doesn't catch on. Ashley stops Dani's spiral and says they were there for a while before she showed up and thinks it's time for her to head home. She heads off to 'freshen up' leaving Dani to give Andre the business. He accuses Dani of being jealous over what she so carelessly threw away. Dani is bored with the conversation. She thinks he can't handle a real woman which is why he went after someone 'so basic she makes vanilla look spicy (Giggle). Just then, Ashley returns. Martin and Smitty's Place: Martin has fallen asleep and dreams of the night from two years ago. In the middle of the dream, Smitty's voice wakes him up and he tells his husband he's home and safe. Smitty once again asks about the nightmare but Martin continues to be evasive. Smitty doubles down and says he deserves answers. He'll support him no matter what his husband tells him. With tears in his eyes, Smitty begs Martin to tell him the truth. Martin says he can't but Smitty says they can face anything together. Previous Beyond The Gates Recap: Endings Ashley asks if Andre is ready to go. Ashley asks if Dani needs a ride but she sends the couple on her way. Vanessa hardens and sends Randy and Doug on their way. Joey is furious at Vanessa for the lines she just crossed. She toys with him and he says she drives him crazy. Joey pulls her to him and they get started on another romp on the poker table. Elon tells Jacob all the pieces he's trying to put together don't add up. He says Jacob's passion for justice is blinding him. Elon flat out lies saying there is nothing to tell and let ghosts rest. Jacob appears to relent and Elon exits. Martin tells Smitty he loves him and keeps things locked away to protect their family and future. Smitty begs his husband to be honest with him. Martin says he is too tired to have this conversation and Smitty backs down. They agree to talk in the morning and head upstairs. Keep checking back for the latest Beyond The Gates recaps!
