Beyond The Gates Recap: Vanessa and Doug Stop Joey From Killing Randy
On today's Beyond The Gates recap:
Police Department: Jacob and Smitty are chatting over coffee. Jacob is stunned at how forthcoming Malone has been with information that day. He thinks the good detective is absolutely shook. They both agree his dad and Malone are running interference. Smitty says he wanted Malone to know he was the one who hacked his accounts. Jacob is impressed he was playing the veteran cop like a fiddle. Smitty wants them to remember that something major must have gone down to result in a payment of 500 grand.
Smitty asks if Jacob is still in and they get back to breaking down the information they know. They think all the information they know doesn't add up. Smitty wonders if Malone was at the station that night two years ago. Jacob pulls up time logs and notes the day before the incident Jacob took his detective exam and was there late. He flashes back and remembers running into (Malone?). They chat a bit more before Smitty makes his exit. Just then, Elon walks up behind him. He asks his son if everything is ok and Jacob flashes back to running into his father that night two years ago.
Jacob recounts some of the information Smitty has on Malone but Elon thinks the reporter is trying to dig up trouble. Jacob disagrees and wonders if his father knows what Smitty will find. Elon is evasive and Jacob says he remembers the night two years prior because he took the detectives exam. He remembers running smack into his father when he was in street clothes which is the same night Martin came home to Smitty looking completely frazzled.
Jacob reminds his father that he molded him as a police officer. Elon always told his son to stand on justice even if it hurts. He asks his father again what happened that night.
Martin and Smitty's Place: Samantha arrives home to an annoyed Martin. He says she will be staying home the rest of the evening and Tyrell fills her in on the Kenneth of it all. Martin says, as a Congressman, sometimes folks target him and his family. He's not providing them details but is simply trying to keep folks safe. Samantha and Tyrell are made nervous by Martin's behavior and head upstairs. Afterwards, Martin checks the doors and sits on the sofa with a baseball bat.
Joey's Gambling Pit: Malone hauls Randy in to take his punishment from Joey. He thought he knew the rules of the game and wonders when and why he went rogue. Randy says he just needed a little money to start over and was then going to pay him back. Malone indicates he found Randy at the international terminal about to leave for Bali. Joey makes it very clear that Randy is headed to a very cold climate (six feet under).
Randy scrambles saying he tried to take out Kenneth but only nicked him. When he got away, he knew he hadn't done his job. Randy wanted to get away until he could figure out how to finish the job. He reminds Joey this is the first time he messed up. Joey says he is useless but Randy promises he can still do the job. Joey indicates he will not get another chance but will leave his kid and the mother alone. Malone is told to escort Randy out just as Doug and Vanessa arrive. Randy tells them to get gone and Joey concurs. Vanessa recognizes Malone and wonders what Internal Affairs will think about his moonlighting gig. Joey asks for the room and Malone exits.
Doug stands up for Randy saying he has his back. Joey tells them to mind their own business. Vanessa and Doug say they followed Randy to the airport and saw Malone cart him back here. Joey says the conversation is over. Vanessa agrees and says they are leaving with Randy in tow. Joey pushes back when Vanessa says harming Randy will cost him and references their business connection. She says all will work well if Randy remains alive and is allowed to relocate. Joey relents and agrees to leave Randy alone for now. He tells Vanessa to stay as Doug and Randy exit.
Uptown: Dani walks over to Andre and Ashley's table and takes a seat. She's surprised to see them together. Ashley and Andre get all kinds of awkward as they aren't on the same page with how they're defining their get together. Dani wonders if Ashley is just another notch on Andre's bedpost.
Andre begins double speak saying there was a woman he got close to but she was too focused on the past to move on with him. Dani asks what drew him to this woman and Andre says she was a lot like her. Ashley thinks anyone who lets Andre slip through her fingers is crazy. Dani says their words are valid. They go back and forth with this game long enough that one wonders why Ashley doesn't catch on.
Ashley stops Dani's spiral and says they were there for a while before she showed up and thinks it's time for her to head home. She heads off to 'freshen up' leaving Dani to give Andre the business. He accuses Dani of being jealous over what she so carelessly threw away. Dani is bored with the conversation. She thinks he can't handle a real woman which is why he went after someone 'so basic she makes vanilla look spicy (Giggle). Just then, Ashley returns.
Martin and Smitty's Place: Martin has fallen asleep and dreams of the night from two years ago. In the middle of the dream, Smitty's voice wakes him up and he tells his husband he's home and safe. Smitty once again asks about the nightmare but Martin continues to be evasive. Smitty doubles down and says he deserves answers. He'll support him no matter what his husband tells him. With tears in his eyes, Smitty begs Martin to tell him the truth. Martin says he can't but Smitty says they can face anything together.

If you're loving The Couple Next Door S2, here's how to watch the gripping Scandi drama it's based on for free
If like us you're already hooked on the second season of The Couple Next Door and just need a little bit more of the drama, you're in luck! Unfortunately, this isn't a season three announcement (we'll let you know once we hear more about this). But, you may or may not already know that the second season of the Channel 4 thriller - which centres around heart surgeon Charlotte (Annabel Scholey), her husband Jacob (Sam Palladio) and their mysterious neighbour Mia (Aggy K. Adams) - is loosely adapted from the Danish series Dopamine - and you can watch it in the UK for free! Here's everything you need to know. Dopamine focuses on Maiken who works alongside her boyfriend at the University Hospital, where everything appears picture-perfect on the surface. But beneath the calm, she's grappling with a troubled personal life and a relationship that's slowly unraveling. When new nurse Ida joins the ward, their carefully balanced world is thrown into chaos, much like Charlotte and Jacob's. The series originally premiered in Denmark on the 31st March 2022 and is made by Kamikaze Film CPH. Speaking about the inspiration behind the second season of The Couple Next Door, the writer David Alison said: "In terms of the story, we took inspiration very, very loosely from a Danish series called Dopamine but we have had enormous creative freedom to develop it exactly the way we wanted and run in whatever direction we wanted to do, and hopefully that's what we've done." Dopamine is available to watch for free on Channel All eight episodes from season one are available to stream directly from there, and they're all about 30 minutes long, so you'll be able to binge the entire series in one afternoon. The episodes are also available to stream via Apple TV. Danish actress Amalie Dollerup stars in the lead role of Maiken. Below is a full cast list: The Couple Next Door season 2 is currently airing on Channel 4.

Did The Couple Next Door's Mia kill the patient in episode 2? Shocking moment explained
**Contains spoilers on The Couple Next Door season 2 episode 2** The Couple Next Door season 2 kicked off on Channel 4 last night (Monday 14th July), and viewers (including myself) are already hooked. The new series centres around heart surgeon Charlotte and her consultant‑anesthetist husband, Jacob, whose seemingly perfect life is interrupted by their new neighbour and nurse at their hospital, Mia (played by Aggy K. Adams). From the minute she arrived, Mia's behaviour has raised suspicion - from her move to the Leeds from Sweden, to her being able to afford a home on the posh street where her boss lives while on a nurse's salary. And in episode two, she raised major alarm bells, as one of the patients at the hospital suddenly died, and she showed zero remorse. So, did she kill the patient? Here's everything you need to know. As of episode two, it's not clear whether Mia did in fact kill the patient, but all the signs are pointing towards her. At the beginning of the episode, the patient groped Mia while she was getting him ready for surgery. "I bet you have all the boys chasing you don't you," he said, before touching her bum. She left the room in disgust and bumped into Jacob, who had witnessed the whole thing. He tried to check if she was ok, but she stormed off saying that she could handle it herself and she wasn't a child. She later thanked him. Following surgery, the patient's blood pressure began to fall and his heart rate increased. Mia was the only nurse in the room at that point, with Jacob later entering to see what was up. He pressed the alarm and asked her to assist him with trying to stabilise the patient, but she just froze in the corner. More nurses and doctors rushed into the room to help, but she could be seen in a panic in the corner. Mia didn't move until the patient was pronounced dead. "He really wasn't a pleasant man," she said as she left the room. On her way home, she bumped into Alan (Hugh Dennis) who asked if she'd had a bad day. She told him a patient had died and he said he was sorry. She replied: "Don't be; he was a sexist perve. I don't think anyone will miss him." The staff at the hospital were later interviewed by the hospital manager, and one of them mentioned that the patient's death was "unexplained". "Something wasn't right," he added. Speaking about Mia, the head nurse said: "You know I would always back my nurses, but Miss Eldegard's response to the death really shocked me. "Firstly she hesitated when she was asked to help the anaesthetist save his life and I had to take over." The hospital manager mentioned that situations don't always run smoothly, and the head nurse agreed, however, felt that Mia continued to act suspiciously. "But afterwards, she acted almost pleased about the patient's death because she'd taken against him. I'd say she was quite cold about it as if justice had been done," she said. When being questioned herself, Mia said: "No I didn't like that man. He was disgusting." Asked by the hospital manager if she didn't think other's might find her reaction unusual, she continued: "I did my job properly; I have a clear conscience. I'm sorry I'm not emoting in a sufficiently correct British way for you. The hospital manager then ordered a post mortem on the patient... Mia's looking pretty guilty right now! The Couple Next Door season 2 is currently airing on Channel 4.
