Beyond The Gates Recap: Vernon Helps Reunite The Articulettes
Beyond The Gates Recap: Vernon Helps Reunite The Articulettes originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Beyond The Gates recap: Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Vernon reads the article in the paper about Kenneth's death when Sharon and Tracy arrive. Sharon asks why Anita is ghosting them when she walks in the room. Tracy says they didn't come her to ambush her and Vernon suggests they head into the parlor. He then exits to grab some tea. Sharon immediately goes at Anita, saying she brought them together for a reunion and then dipped the minute things got tense. Tracy tries to get her to calm down but Anita says Sharon is right. She admits she opened the door but they never gave her or their reunion a real chance. Sharon bites the bullet and says they want to proceed with the reunion. After Sharon curtseys, Anita says they clearly don't know her at all. Vernon returns and says he is standing with one of the most successful music groups of all times. He doesn't understand why they are acting like children. They all admit they behaved badly but Anita and Sharon continue to snipe. Tracy jumps in saying she agrees with both women's points. She admits they never gave Anita a chance, which is received well. That being said, Tracy thinks Anita was too used to being in charge. Vernon asks what made The Articulettes so special. Sharon gets snarky but Anita says they told their story and people saw themselves in their songs. Tracy says it was like they were three sides of the same person… four. Anita agrees saying Barbara brought them all together. She knows Tracy and Sharon have never forgiven her for making their quad a trio and she hasn't forgiven herself. Vernon says they can't go back and need to start over. He thinks they should make each step forward one that would make all four of them proud. Sharon and Tracy think they could maybe figure out a way to forgive each other. Vernon remembers when he fell in love with Anita. He says he was moved by their group as they inspired the world. He thinks the world could use a little more Articulettes magic. He suggests they rent a studio in town and just focus on the music. All three women agree, grab each other's hands and declare themselves 'Articulettes Strong.' With that, they make plans to meet up and exit. Orphey Gene's: Chelsea tells Kat about her and Madison running into Allison and how weird she was acting. Kat wonders if there is any heat left between them when she gets a text from her father and exits. Just then, Allison walks in holding her bloody head. She knows she needs to get it checked out and Chelsea offers to drive her to the hospital. With that, they exit. Bill's Law Office: Bill chats on the phone about how Malone handled Kenneth and hopes Vernon can keep himself in check. Just then, Tomas arrives, and Bill tells him he needs to learn to make tough calls. Tomas hands him an envelope with a picture which surprises Bill. Just then, Hayley walks in and says the photos are the ultrasound of their baby. Bill wants to make sure he's at the next appointment so he can hear their baby's heartbeat. Tomas exits as they continue to gaze at their bundle of joy. Hayley goes into talking about Martin's press conference and wants the skinny on the latest Dupree drama. Bill effectively avoids her questions and says he needs to get back to court. Hayley says the presser was messy and reminds him to put more focus on his upcoming role as Big Daddy Hamilton. She worries getting back involved in Dupree drama will bring on another stroke. Hotel – Ted's Room: Kat arrives to see her father asking why he wants to see her. Just then, Eva walks in saying she's the one who called this little meeting. Eva makes Kat think she is going to reveal her manipulation to their father. Instead, she pulls out the accreditation and says she convinced the inspector do a rush job. Kat wonders what Eva had to do in exchange. Eva says she threw Kat under the bus saying the accreditation slipped through the cracks after she suddenly left. Kat is annoyed but Ted is grateful and so very impressed with Eva. With that, Eva smiles at and side eyes Kat before making her exit. Ted is so impressed with Eva's accomplishment. Kat is about to throw up and says she would have never made the mistake in the first place. Ted can't believe Kat never made mistakes when she first started and is impressed with Eva trying to start fresh. Kat continues to get on Eva and says he should never have sneezed in the direction of Leslie Thomas. Ted stops his daughter saying playing around about what's going to get him divorced isn't cute or funny. He says Eva's errors are only a product of his original mistake. Kat goes on and on about how awful Eva is and says her hands are in everything she cares about, including her boyfriend. Ted thinks Kat is mistaken but she says Eva is full press going after her boyfriend. She mentions Eva inviting Tomas up to her hotel room but can't quite admit how she knows as she was under the bed. Garland Memorial Hospital – Lobby: Shanice sweet talks Derek on the phone when Ashley approaches. She quickly hangs up and starts to get into it with Ashley when Dr. Montgomery arrives. She talks to Ashley about a nice catch with a patient. Just then, Chelsea walks in with Allison. Madison gets all kinds of snarky with Chelsea asking what happened with 'her girlfriend.' Chelsea tells her to slow her roll saying she brought Allison in because she fell on the sidewalk outside Orphey Gene's. Madison wonders if she saw her fall and clearly believes Chelsea is being manipulated. They go back and forth before Madison walks away to go check on her patient. Garland Memorial Hospital – Exam Room/Outside: Madison arrives to see Allison and says she'll be running some tests. She says to tell Shanice or Ashley if her pain worsens. Just then, Chelsea walks in and then walks out with Madison. She notes they are checking for a concussion. Chelsea tries to make a joke, but Madison is in no mood and walks away to check on her other patients. Chelsea returns and Allison asks to hold her hand to calm her fear of hospitals. Chelsea says 'Dr Montgomery' will take great care of her. Allison says she doesn't have to continue the formalities as she knows Madison and Chelsea are whatever they are. Chelsea says she will talk to her cousin Martin about fixing the sidewalks so other folks don't fall. Allison admits she didn't fall. Orphey Gene's: Tomas and Eva run into each other and get to talking about the book they are reading. He asks about her job and Eva indicates she almost got fired and tells him about the accreditation issues. He is impressed with how she figured out how to handle the situation. Tomas wonders if her problems involve Kat and Eva tells him the story about how her half-sister set her up. He can't believe she would set Eva up like that. Tomas is surprised she didn't rat her out to Ted. Eva says she put her dad through so much, he didn't want to destroy his opinion of Kat. Tomas notes Eva is trying to make up for her mistakes whilst Kat is stuck in a loop of revenge. He says maybe it's good they never… Eva tries to get him to fill in his blank. Previous Beyond The Gates Recap: Endings Dr Montgomery asks Shanice to text her when Allison's test results are in. Ashley approaches Shanice and starts to bring up their earlier conversation. Shanice is too focused on the love triangle between Dr Montgomery, Chelsea and Allison. Ashley doesn't get pulled in and goes back to what she heard Shanice say to Derek about making her jealous. Shanice makes mention about Ashley acting a fool in public about Andre. She doesn't blame her as both men are snacks. That being said, she wants Ashley to back off as her glass house is already cracking. Allison says her husband Craig pushed her so hard she hit her head on the kitchen table. He wanted to take her to the hospital, but she refused to let him touch her. Chelsea asks why she went to Orphey Gene's and not the hospital. Allison grabs her hand and says she was driving straight to her (how did she know?). Just then, Madison returns to the room. Tomas promises Eva not to say anything to Kat about their conversation. She believes she can trust him, and they embrace. After they pull away, they lock eyes and kiss all up in Orphey Gene's in front of God and everybody! Ted thinks Kat is imagining things about Eva because she wants to. Just then, Kat gets a message and needs to go. She hugs her father and exits. Hayley can't believe Bill asked Tomas to spy on Chelsea and Naomi. He says he asked Tomas to keep an ear out with Kat to make sure his kids are still good with him. She gets it but says he better never do any such a thing with their little bundle of joy. Just then, Bill gets a call from Ted regarding the article in the paper about dead Kenneth. He says he needs to get something from the conference room and she bristles. Hayley grabs the ultrasound photo and makes a call, saying the person had her worried and will be in touch (a surrogate?). Beyond The Gates Recap: Jacob Questions Nicole About Strangling Leslie originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Beyond The Gates: Nicole's Pad: Nicole is chatting on the phone with Dani when Kat walks in to vent about Eva. Nicole shifts and wants to discuss a serious family matter. Just then, Jacob walks in and says he has police business with Nicole. He says there has been a report of assault against Nicole by Leslie at Orphey Gene's. Nicole admits she and Leslie had words and then 'scuffled' but says they are both equally responsible for the skirmish. Jacob says Leslie has contusions on her neck and asks if Nicole tried to 'choke her to death.' A flustered Nicole says she wishes she had succeeded, which stuns Kat. Kat tries to run interference for her mother and Nicole says she barely touched Leslie. Jacob asks for witnesses and Nicole notes Ted walked in on it and there were plenty of folks in the restaurant. Kat decides to find Eva and get her mother to back off but she says she's not at work. Nicole is ready for Jacob to take her in but he says he's not ready to go that far just yet. With that, he exits. Kat asks what her mother wanted to talk about before Jacob came in but Nicole says it's going to have to wait. With that, she exits. Hotel – Ted's Room: Ted is yelling at Bill about their dead Kenneth problem. He hangs up when Leslie arrives at his door. She walks past him and thanks Ted for driving her home after Nicole tried to strangle her. Leslie pulls a scarf aside and shows red marks on her neck. Ted didn't realize Nicole got a hold of her neck in such a way to cause those marks (Is Ted this daft?). He tries to calm down her dramatics and opens the door for her to leave. Leslie mentions the accreditation issue at the office and says Eva was quite upset. Ted says it's all been settled. Leslie figured Eva would find a way out of Kat's trap. A surprised Ted shuts the door as he wants details. Leslie thinks he should ask Eva. Ted can't believe Eva wouldn't rat out Kat as the two are always at odds. Leslie says Eva denied it to her, as well, but she knows her kid. She thinks Ted should think about which mother/daughter duo is there for him and which one is always on the attack. Leslie gets all kinds of flirty with Ted who is clearly impacted by her touch. He says it's not going to happen, and she says it's all good as she has to go. Leslie tells her Teddy Bear goodbye and exits. Orphey Gene's: Eva and Tomas are upset with themselves over their kiss. Tomas notes he really liked the kiss. Eva admits she feels the same but doesn't want to upset Kat's apple cart. He says he knows how Kat treats her. Eva admits she was bad to Kat at the beginning but no longer. For some reason, Tomas decides it's a good idea to tell Eva about not having sex with Kat. Eva and Tomas take a seat at a table so she can get the skinny on the no sex situation. Eva is stunned to learn Kat is a virgin. She thinks it's so old fashioned for someone so seemingly worldly. Tomas asks she not repeat the information and Eva promises. He continues to spill and tells Eva about the night he turned her down for sex. He thought the whole thing felt forced and felt a lot of pressure. Eva thinks it's always better to communicate for the sake of clarity. Tomas thanks her for being easy to talk to. He admits he feels a little guilty about their kiss but doesn't quite know where he and Kat stand. Eva admits she doesn't have this kind of energy with anyone else. Tomas wants them to keep getting to know each other and takes her hand. Garland Memorial Hospital – Exam Room: Madison listens at the door as Chelsea tells Allison she needs to leave her husband. Allison defends Craig a bit and says he has all kinds of good quality and doesn't get physical all the time. Chelsea says it's never ok for Craig to ever lay hands on her. Allison shifts to telling Chelsea how grateful she is for her help and thinks it proves their connection. Chelsea says she would help anyone who needed that kind of assistance. She mentions calling Bill to find out Allison's options but she shuts her down. Allison loses her cool and tells Chelsea to go. Chelsea runs into Madison in the lobby. Madison thinks Allison is possibly making up the allegations of her husband's abuse. She notes Allison's timing is coincidental as it coincides with wanting Chelsea back. She thinks Chelsea should put two and two together. Madison thinks there is something very off with Chelsea. Previous Beyond The Gates Recap: Endings Chelsea returns to Allison's room after getting her text. Allison apologizes saying she doesn't actually want to drop her husband into the legal system. She says she will be ok. Chelsea says she was only trying to help and says, once again, she should leave her husband. She wishes Allison well but can't be a part of getting her help moving forward and won't be back to visit. Chelsea asks her not to reach out to her again as their interactions have been very strange and are hurting her relationship with Madison. With that, she exits. Tomas and Eva can't believe how long they have been talking. Eva says she's going back to her place and Tomas asks if he can join. Jacob arrives to see Ted who clearly thinks he's there to arrest him for some role in the Martin/dead Kenneth debacle. Jacob then asks about what he saw when Nicole and Leslie go at it. Ted inquires and Jacob specifically asks if he saw Nicole choke Leslie. Ted says he can't implicate Nicole when he's trying to save his marriage. Jacob asks if he is refusing to make a statement and Ted confirms. Nicole arrives to see Leslie and walks right in and wants to see Leslie's contusions. She pulls the scarf back and Nicole immediately discovers her bruises are simply purple eye shadow. Leslie giggles a bit and says she has pictures of her injuries for court. Nicole says her plan is doomed to be a failure. Leslie says there is always another plan as there is always a next time. Nicole looks forward to it and makes her exit. Beyond The Gates Recap: Nicole Learns Bill Orchestrated Kenneth's Murder
Beyond The Gates Recap: Nicole Learns Bill Orchestrated Kenneth's Murder originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Beyond The Gates recap: Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Anita is practicing her choreography when Vernon walks in and fawns over her. Just then, Martin walks in and says he's headed to his mother's house. He says he's coming clean to her about what happened to Kenneth. Smitty has told him the only way they are getting back together is if he comes clean to family about everything. Nicole's Pad: Nicole is on the phone with the head of the hospital. She says she is ready to come back to work. Nicole thinks the storm has passed with her family and she shouldn't have to deal with anymore surprises. Martin arrives and notices his mother's smile. She says she's moving forward and going back to work. Martin hates the thought that he might be about to set her back. He promises it's the last detail he left out. They take a seat, and Martin tells his mother about Kenneth and how Bill, Malone, Joey and Elon took care of him. She is stunned to hear about Elon as she thinks he's of high moral character. Nicole asks if her dad knew and Martin says they were both in the dark (Oh Martin, what you don't know…). Nicole says she doesn't understand why folks won't tell her things as she isn't a delicate flower. No one is going to love and protect him more than she will. Martin understands but says he didn't want to lose the dream of being President and knew she would make him face the truth. Nicole realizes she's at fault for not asking questions as she should've known something was going on both with him and Ted. She thinks they should work some of these issues out under the guise of client-patient privilege (um, no). They agree and Nicole says she needs to go take care of something. Orphey Gene's: Jacob arrives and takes a seat with Naomi. He tells her about Leslie pressing charges Nicole with Ted as the only witness. She thinks it was smart for him to decline a statement. Naomi hopes and prays her husband didn't put cuffs on another member of her family. Jacob says he took the evidence he had to the DA who said it wasn't enough for an arrest. He says he tries to ignore the Dupree missteps but wonders what Vernon would do. Naomi says her grandfather would protect his own no matter what. Martin arrives and Jacob walks up to chat. He says he heard about him and Smitty and is rooting for them to get back together. He probes a bit why Martin stepped away from the family and says he wants to help with the man who was stalking them. Martin shades the truth saying, as far as he knows, the man hasn't made contact with anyone recently. Martin appreciates Jacob's offer but says he and Smitty will work it out. Jacob continues bringing up Kenneth's death in the park and how it can't be a coincidence it happened around his press conference. Martin goes into politician mode and says he and his constituents are always concerned about a rise in crime in the area. He's glad Marcel is on the case as he's certain he will find the culprit. With that, he gets up to grab takeout and leave. Hotel – Eva's Room: Eva and Tomas arrive back as she looks for the book to give him. He gets tickled when she acts all kinds of shy. Tomas isn't concerned about the book. He just wants to hang with her. Eva says she's a wee bit freaked out and doesn't know what happens next. Tomas says they could simply talk about books or continue what they started at Orphey Gene's. With that, they kiss and hit the sheets. As they get hot and heavy, Eva stops because of Kat as it's what she's been accusing her of this very thing. Tomas says he and Kat aren't exclusive. She wonders if Kat has the same understanding. Eva says she wants to be the main character rather than the side piece. She finally has the chance to be the heroine of the story. Just then, Kat bangs on the door saying they need to talk. Eva pushes Tomas to head to the bathroom but her refuses. Eva answers the door and Kat rushes in. She is stopped dead in her tracks when she sees Tomas, who says he's just there to pick up a book. Kat has no time and exits. Tomas is annoyed he didn't hide in the bathroom. Eva is more than irritated that Tomas still hid by lying to Kat about why he is there. She finds the book and tries to push Tomas out. He apologizes and hopes Eva will continue to allow him in her life. With that, he exits and Eva says 'the end.' Bill and Hayley's Place: Bill notices his wife's new dress and says she looks wonderful and would never know she was pregnant. They chat a bit about their upcoming child and he says he put another deposit in the college fund that covers everything for undergraduate education. Hayley thinks they are all lucky to be Hamiltons. Hayley asks where he stands with the Dupree. Bill says they only call him if they need something. She was hoping their grip on him would loosen and is disturbed that he can't quit them. Bill says that is no longer the case. Nicole arrives, storms into the living room and calls Bill a murderer. Hayley sees the resemblance between Nicole and Dani and tells her to get out. Bill intervenes and asks his wife to give them a moment. Bill chastises Nicole as Hayley knows nothing of the Martin situation. Nicole thinks Hayley deserves to know who her baby daddy is as she should have known Ted was someone else's baby daddy. Bill tries to avoid giving up any details of his own actions, but Nicole is done. She says she knows the whole story and is DONE listening to his foolishness. Bill pushes back saying she is clearly joining the Dupree hypocrites and sitting up on high whilst he does the family's dirty work. He asks how Martin would have fared if he had to go through a trial for killing a racist. Bill says, no matter the means, he's the one who saved Martin, not her. Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Naomi arrives and tells them about the new case that landed on Jacob's desk which makes it seem like Martin is guilty of something. She can't imagine how Martin is in trouble and they don't know anything about it. She then realizes she might be the only one out of the loop. They're silence speaks volumes and she realizes they can't say because she's married to a police officer. Anita and Vernon don't want her to have to carry the burden of the truth but Naomi wants to know everything. Vernon hands her a dollar and retains her as their attorney which begins privilege. With that, Vernon tells her the story of two years prior. They continue by telling her about Kenneth dying at the hands of Malone. Vernon says Elon played his part in both the investigation around Martin and Kenneth. Anita says Elon is a good man as they all thought they were doing the right thing by protecting Martin. Naomi can't believe what she's hearing. Anita goes on to tell Naomi that Martin and Vernon wanted to pay Kenneth off, but Bill and Joey had other plans. Naomi can't believe Bill instigated murder. Vernon says he is also at fault for going to Bill but thought there were lines 'the fixer' wouldn't cross. Previous Beyond The Gates Recap: Endings Kat walks in and vents about Eva and Tomas to Martin. She says Tomas is a liar and a cheater like all men. Martin tries to get his sister to pump the brakes, and she takes a breath. Nicole wishes the Dupree family never came in contact with the likes of Bill. He says the almighty Vernon is to blame. Bill can't imagine the patriarch of an upstanding family needing a cleanup man. Nicole thinks he is a piece of work. Bill continues saying he was once a Dupree believer. He says he is just as disappointed in the Duprees as she is right now. Nicole does a slow clap and tells Bill to stay away from her entire family. She says SHE is the fixer now! Naomi tells the grands she thought her father had changed. She let him back in but thought the worst of the secrets and lies had passed. Killing someone was something she thought her father wasn't capable of. Naomi moves on reminding her grandparents of Jacob's investigation into Martin and now dead Kenneth. Anita asks how much he knows. Naomi says Jacob is putting the pieces together quickly. She says they need to prepare for the possibility their dirty laundry may be aired quite quickly. The View Remembers Malcolm-Jamal Warner
The View Remembers Malcolm-Jamal Warner originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On Tuesday's episode of The View, the co-hosts paid tribute to actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner. Warner best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on the hit 80s and 90s NBC sitcom The Cosby Show, died in an accidental drowning in Costa Rica over the weekend while on vacation with his family. He was 54. Whoopi Goldberg said about Warner's passing: He was really a great kid. I knew him well, I mean, it just…You know, the person who [broke the news to her] sent me a note that said, this is why what you did on Friday matters, and that is something that I will impart to you all. Because our lives move so quickly and we can disappear at any second, do not let much time pass before you say to your loved ones, hey, I'm thinking of you or hey, how you doing? Make sure you contact somebody today and reach out. Co-host revealed she knew The Resident star due to previously dating his friend, stated how down to earth he was. According to Hostin: I knew him also – I dated his friend – and he was always so nice to me. He didn't behave the way I thought movie stars or television stars would behave. He was very welcoming to this kind of outsider. Hostin went on to explain how important Warner was in pop culture especially in the Black community and how he and the show represented a positive representation of the Black family. Hostin stated: I think [Warner's death] was so shocking because of the place that he had in pop culture for African Americans. I remember growing up and watching this family as a kid from the South Bronx projects, watching a Black doctor and Black lawyer married to each other living in a beautiful Brooklyn townhouse. And for me, it became something that was a possibility. That depiction, I think, was an overdue corrective against these harmful stereotypes of the Black community that existed for so very long, and he was just such a crucial part of it, especially I think for young Black men.
