Reports in Germany yesterday suggested that United had matched the Toon's £74million bid.
The offer is said to be worth £65m plus £9m in add-ons.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United believe that Sesko only wants to join them.
The Red Devils remain in negotiations with RB Leipzig regarding a transfer fee.

But club bosses reckon that they have now moved ahead of Newcastle in the race to sign Sesko.
A swoop for the Slovenian would take United's summer spending on a new front three to more than £200m.
Ruben Amorim's side signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a £62.5m deal back in June.
Red Devils bosses then sealed a £71m swoop for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo last month.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have been desperate to recruit a striker amid speculation surrounding Alexander Isak's future.
The Swede, 25, told Toon chiefs last month that he wants to leave St James' Park.

Liverpool had a £110million bid knocked back for Isak, and could return for the forward later in the window.
Newcastle are already light up front, having released Callum Wilson at the end of last season.
Sesko trained alone yesterday as he nears an RB Leipzig exit.
The German side's bosses are happy for Newcastle and Man Utd to engage in a bidding war, but don't want the situation to drag on as they recognise that they need time to replace their forward.
According to The Athletic, RB Leipzig have contacted Liverpool regarding a possible move for Harvey Elliott.
The Reds are said to want more than £50m for the England youth international.
Arne Slot's side would accept a lower fee, however, if they can include a buy-back clause in the deal.

Benjamin Sesko boasts Cristiano Ronaldo-esque leap set to strike fear in Premier League defenders upon Man Utd move

BENJAMIN SESKO is finally making the leap into the Premier League. After choosing Manchester United ahead of Newcastle, the RB Leipzig striker will be delighted if he can make half the impact of another forward known for gravity-defying jumps at Old Trafford, namely Cristiano Ronaldo. 11 Benjamin Sesko is closing in on joining Man United Credit: AFP 11 He possesses an incredible leap Credit: Getty 11 The striker can outjump most defenders Credit: tiktok Play Dream Team now! Eight years ago, when still in his native Slovenia, Sesko posted an incredible video of him flying so high he could kick out at a basketball hoop — the global standard height is TEN FEET or just over three metres. In slow motion, the footage shows him jumping towards the backboard and dislodging a ball from the rim with his foot. This video eventually came to the attention of the recruitment department at Red Bull Salzburg and they started tracking this freak of nature. Aged 16, Sesko would eventually head to Austria. Sesko now stands at 6ft 5in and can jump not far off a further four feet, which is extraordinary. He is literally head and shoulders above his peers. United boss Ruben Amorim will utilise Sesko's super-human strength this season to finally help the Red Devils restore their bite in front of goal. Sesko's aerial ability, speed and power make him a real threat. SUN VEGAS WELCOME OFFER: GET £50 BONUS WHEN YOU JOIN He will certainly give defences food for thought — fuelled by plenty of protein. His breakfast consists of FOUR fried eggs, yoghurt with berries, muesli and freshly-squeezed fruit juice. For lunch, Sesko has chicken, rice, carrots and broccoli, with two slices of bread, followed by a fruit salad featuring mango, watermelon and pineapple. His approach is bearing fruit, and although Sesko's shot accuracy and conversion rate need to improve with experience, he could be a huge success for the Red Devils over the next few years. It is turning into a nightmare for Newcastle, especially with star striker Alexander Isak looking to leave with Liverpool heavily linked. Meanwhile, the Old Trafford side will get a player who at Salzburg was known as the 'new Erling Haaland', with Manchester City's Norwegian star having made his mark at the club before leaving for Borussia Dortmund. 11 Sesko could lift Man United back to its old heights Credit: AFP 11 He can compete with basketballers Credit: Youtube / RB Leipzi 11 He could be a threat from lofted crosses Credit: Getty 11 His aerial ability has been compared to that of Cristiano Ronaldo Credit: Getty 11 CR7 made gigantic leaps one of his calling cards during his career Credit: AFP Sesko's leap only became famous a few years ago and until he began to flourish in Salzburg, was largely unknown. Yet as he found his feet in Austria, he moved to Leipzig and then started to terrorise Bundesliga defences. Sesko has remained a shy person and rarely gives an insight into his private life on Instagram unlike other players. Right now, you could argue, Sesko's possible future brother-in-law is actually more famous across the UK than him. His girlfriend, Anita, is the sister of Boris who has recently starred on Love Island. Sesko will form part of a new, three-pronged attacking dream team with £62.5million Matheus Cunha and £65m Bryan Mbuemo. The three scored 48 league goals between them last season, which is more than the entire United team managed in the Prem (44). Amorim opting for this line-up would mean skipper Bruno Fernandes dropping back into a deeper midfield role instead of occupying a No 10 spot himself. 11 He will have lofty ambitions at Old Trafford Credit: Getty 11 He was also wanted by Newcastle this summer Credit: Getty 11 Since August 2023, striker Sesko has been the top-scoring player in Europe aged under 23. He has struck 39 times, one ahead of midfield pair Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid and five more than Liverpool new boy Florian Wirtz. After Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich (33) is Rasmus Hojlund with 26 goals. Yet United have been willing to listen to offers for Hojlund, and are ready to accept as little as £30m for the player they paid £64m for in 2023, although the Dane still wants to fight for his place in Manchester. Born just a few months before Sesko in 2003, Hojlund still has work to do but it might not be the worst thing for United — if they can afford to keep him — to allow him to grow alongside Sesko. You could see why joining Newcastle would have been a good option for Sesko. A side featuring in the Champions League this season and one where he could become a hero. Yet United are the biggest club in England and while they are not in European competition this term, their time will come again. With his three-pronged strikeforce and the genius of Fernandes pulling the strings behind them, Amorim's men could be a force in the Premier League this season. And United's fans, like Sesko, could be jumping for joy.

Jamie Carragher uncomfortable about Liverpool's mega money move for Alexander Isak

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has questioned whether the Anfield club should break their transfer record for a second time this summer to complete a deal for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. After Liverpool had a bid of around £110m for Isak rejected by Newcastle last week, the striker is in limbo as he waits to discover if a second offer will be lodged by the Premier League champions. Newcastle have stated that they don't want to sell Isak and that inspired Liverpool to suggest they would not return with a second offer for the striker. Yet there is still a strong suspicion that this deal could be revived in this summers transfer window and that has inspired Carragher to voice his concern that the move for Isak 'feels a bit messy'. Speaking on the Overlap's pre-season show, the 2005 Champions League winner questioned whether Liverpool should be spending so much money on Isak after sealing big money deals for Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike this summer. 'He will be an amazing signing, but from a fan's point of view for myself, I don't want Liverpool to spend £150 million on Isak,' said Carragher. 'There's something about Liverpool buying another striker [Hugo Ekitike], and he's backup. 'Something about it doesn't feel right to me. I know Liverpool need numbers, for a number of reasons, at the top of the pitch. 'I look at Isak, and he's obviously thrown his toys out the pram once Arsenal signed a striker and Liverpool signed a striker. 'From his point of view and from his agent's point of view, do they not tell Newcastle months ago that they wanted to move on? It feels a bit messy to me now. 'For me, when I think of Liverpool, it doesn't look really planned – I don't think the plan is to buy a striker for £80 million, and then be looking to buy another one for £120 million.' The 25-year-old Sweden striker did not travel with his Newcastle team-mates on their pre-season trip to Singapore and South Korea, citing an injury as the reason for his absence. He has been training at former club Real Sociedad, but has been back in Newcastle in recent days as he awaits developments on his possible move to Liverpool.

Arsenal 2 Villarreal 3: Viktor Gyokeres upstaged by £72million forgotten Gunners flop on Emirates Stadium bow

The way Gyokeres moved and his hair saw him compared to an Arsenal flop VIKTOR GYOKERES is wearing the No14 shirt made famous by Thierry Henry and the Swede is also looking to become an Arsenal legend. Unfortunately for the club's big summer signing, he had just 14 touches on his Emirates debut before being replaced in the 62nd minute, so this will not be a night he looks back with fondness. Not that it really matters, obviously. If Viktor Gyokeres fires the goals to end Arsenal's role as permanent Premier League bridesmaids to clinch the title, and there is no reason why he cannot, the Swede will be forgiven if he takes time to adjust in north London. On the night all eyes were on the new arrival from Sporting Lisbon, absolutely no-one had taken any notice of Villarreal's Nicolas Pepe. So while we all expected an expensive signing by Arsenal to score, you would not have had any money on it being £72m Arsenal flop Pepe. Advertisement Villarreal's Ivory Coast international scored the first goal and Karl Etta Eyong made it 2-0 before new arrival Christian Norgaard scored with a header. Yet while we have spent the last few weeks talking about the need of a top striker, Mikel Arteta's team will have to defend better than this, and sub Arnaut Danjuma made it 3-1 before Martin Odegaard pulled one back from the penalty spot. Villarreal then won a penalty shoot-out 4-3 with another new arrival, Noni Madueke, missing the decisive spot-kick. Gyokeres, who cost £8.5million less than Pepe, made his club debut as a 77th minute substitute against Spurs in Hong Kong but was given a heroes' welcome at a packed Emirates. Advertisement BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK If Arsenal are to get the best out of their new all-singing, all-dancing goal machine, they will have to give him more ammunition. Equally, Gyokeres did not have a proper pre-season as he barely trained in Lisbon. Arsenal's 2025-26 third kit 'leaked' and fans absolutely love it He will soon be in better shape and has another run-out on Saturday against Athletic Bilbao. Advertisement Gyokeres tried to score his first goal in spectacular style but failed to connect with an attempted bicycle kick from Bukayo Saka's cross and he had few other chances. In terms of the way he moves and the fact has blonde hair, it was a bit like having Nicklas Bendtner back at the Emirates although it is safe to say Gyokeres will do a bit better than the cocky Dane. Arteta also gave second half Emirates debuts to Christhian Mosquera, Martin Zubimendi, keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and Madueke. Yet the comedy moment of the night was Pepe opening the scoring from close range and then refusing to celebrate. Advertisement Pepe arrived from Lille for that massive amount in 2019 and scored just 27 goals in 112 appearances before joining Trabzonspor on a free transfer in 2023. Many Arsenal fans probably did not realise that Pepe was even playing in this fixture although there was a mixture of jeers and applause when his name was read out after scoring. Etta Eyong scored at the far post for 2-0 before former Brentford captain Norgaard pulled one back with a far post header before the break. The biggest roar of the night came just after the hour when 15-year-old Max Dowman was unleashed. Advertisement Villarreal caught Arsenal on the break with former Bournemouth forward Danjuma making it 3-1 before Dowman won a penalty and Odegaard, who replaced Gyokeres, got Arsenal's second. There was still a shoot-out although Madueke saw his shot saved with one fan shouting: 'send him back to Chelsea.' Meanwhile, Arsenal - yet again - have fitness concerns. Both defender Riccardo Calafiori, who suffered an injury on the tour, along with Kai Havertz, were missing from the squad. Advertisement
