Greece police seize cannabis at Mini-Mart after complaints
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Greece Police officers seized a large amount of cannabis following a search warrant at Dewey Ave Mini-Mart Thursday.
According to the Greece Police Department, a search warrant was executed at the Mini-Mart following complaints of illegal cannabis sales.
The store is closed and cannot operate until the owner reapplies for a building permit and resolves code enforcement violations.
GPD said the business owner was also issued a court appearance ticket for violations of Greece Town Code related to the unlawful possession and sale of cannabis.
On December 16, 2021, the Greece Town Board voted to opt out of allowing cannabis dispensaries and consumption sites under the New York State Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act causing cannabis sales to be not permitted in Greece.

‘We just want closure': Family and friends of missing 5-year-old grieve as search continues
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – On Thursday evening, family and friends of 5-year-old Zy'Jae St. Pierre came together at the Andrews Street Bridge to remember him. According to Rochester Police, the young boy fell from the bridge on Sunday afternoon and has yet to be located despite extensive search efforts. Earlier this week, RPD declared the ongoing investigation as a recovery mission. Zy'Jae's aunt Sonya Wright, shared why she sees her nephew as one-of-a-kind. 'He was a very strong kid,' Sonya said. 'Very smart, intelligent, loving and fun little boy. We miss and love him.' His great aunt Stephanie Wright also went to the bridge Thursday to grieve alongside her family. She recalled the moment she discovered what happened to Zy'Jae. 'I was just with him on Saturday, and when I got the news on Sunday that he fell over the river, I was devastated,' Stephanie said. 'I haven't slept more than an hour each day. I'm just up crying, and it's sad.' The memories of who Zy'Jae was and his impact extend beyond his family to everyone who knew him. A former teacher of his at Sunshine Village Daycare, Maria Martinez, has many memories of him. She explained that Zy'Jae loved to write, build with blocks and show love to everyone he met. 'I saw the picture, I said his name and I just started crying, because he was my kid. That was my baby,' Martinez said. Director of Sunshine Village Daycare April Wilcox said in her eyes, Zy'Jae was a student unlike any other and that he always let his colors shine inside the classroom. 'You could be having the worst day, and Zy'Jae would come right up to you and give you a hug or tell you that he loves you or missed you,' Wilcox said. 'He was an amazing, amazing child.' Now, many of Zy'Jae's family members and friends are trying to focus on remembering his kind spirit and ambition as they navigate this tragedy. 'We just want closure, we want comfort, and we want him to come home,' Sonya said. 'We love him.' Family members say they're asking community members to sign a petition which would urge city leaders to consider the installation of taller railings along the Andrews Street Bridge. It would also push to rename the bridge in in honor of Zy'Jae. A balloon release in his memory is slated to take place on Friday evening at the bridge. Rochester community unites in support as search for missing 5-year-old continues
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – The search for 5-year-old Zy'Jae St. Pierre continued along the Genesee River for a fifth day Thursday. The young boy fell from the Andrews Street bridge Sunday afternoon, according to Rochester police. Earlier this week, police deemed their efforts a recovery mission. Search efforts continue for 5-year-old who fell in the Genesee River, declared 'recovery operation' In an update Thursday afternoon, the Rochester Police Department shared they were still unable to locate St. Pierre despite ongoing efforts. The department credited assistance from RG&E in helping to control and redirect the river during the search, including lowering the water level between the Andrews St. bridge and High Falls. Police say St. Pierre was walking with his mother, who was pushing another child in a stroller, when he ran ahead of her. Witnesses said he climbed the railing, and before his mother could reach him, he fell over. Police say she ran along the waterway and was unable to reach the boy before he left her sight. Balloons, candles, and toys now line the span of the bridge. News 8's Natalie Kucko spoke to community members there, who are continuing to show their support for the family. 'They were very happy. It was a very happy family. He used to go outside and play, things like that. He was a very good little boy. Good memories. It's devastating,' said Nichelle Beale, a former neighbor of the family. 'I want him to be found and I want justice. I want the family to be at peace, and to know where he is and not to wonder every night.' Outside Rochester City Hall Thursday, community members shared a call on the city in the wake of this tragedy. 'We're calling for the city of Rochester to put up a higher gate on not just that bridge, but any bridge, whether it's over water, or a highway. We want to prevent this tragedy from every happening again to any family. There's no words to express what they're going through,' said Marquita Ladd, a Rochester resident. News 8 spoke with Rochester Mayor Malik Evans for his response to those concerns. 'I think it's admirable the community is concerned about families' safety and that's what this is about — and we'll go back and look to see if there's anything that can be done from preventing a tragedy in the future. Right now, the focus is to make sure the family has what they need. But more importantly, the recovery is what we're focusing on right now and we will continue to be focused on that until we get some closure for this family,' said Evans. At this time, community members like Beale continue to visit Andrews Street to reflect. 'It hurts. Because if it was my child, I'd be hurt, too. I wouldn't know what to do,' Beale said, 'Embrace your kids every day and let them know you love them every day.' The Rochester Police Department plans to resume search efforts Friday morning. The department continues to ask for awareness from local boaters and fishermen in an effort to locate St. Pierre. Two GoFundMe accounts have been created to assist the family during this time. MCSO deputy recovering from injury while responding to ‘disturbances' at Ontario Beach Park
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A deputy was injured after fights broke out at Ontario Beach Park Wednesday night, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. Investigators said they responded to the area to help with reports of 'disturbances' breaking out in the large crowds. Ontario Beach Park hosted the first Concerts by the Shore Wednesday evening. Deputies said they became involved in an 'active crime' — where a deputy was then injured in the hand while he was taking a suspect into custody. The deputy's injury was treated.
