In the 2025 NFL Draft, the New York Giants secured a pair of talents in the first round they think can be foundational pieces for the franchise moving forward. As one of these players continues to navigate life in the pros, they received high praise from a member of one of football's most iconic families.
After taking Abdul Carter with the third overall pick, the Giants traded into the back end of the first round on draft night. With their second selection of the evening, they went with Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart. The 22-year-old is fresh off a dominant senior season and is widely regarded as one of the top quarterback prospects of his respective class.
Heading into his rookie year, Dart is set to take on a backup role behind Russell Wilson. Even though he isn't taking the reins right away, it hasn't stopped him from turning heads with his stellar play.

Since joining the Giants, countless people have sung Dart's praises. One of the recent notable names to give him his flowers was former NFL QB Archie Manning. After getting to meet Dart at "Fanatic Fest" last weekend, he had nothing but good things to say about his skill set and character.
"Jaxson played a lot of football at Ole Miss, a lot of good football," Manning said. "I was just excited for him to be drafted in the first round and particularly New York Giants. We like the Giants. I was with Jaxson last week up in New York and he's a good guy, good player. He's very smart."

Going from Ole Miss to the Giants, Dart is on a similar journey as a former Giants legend. That being Eli Manning, who came from the same program before winning a pair of Super Bowls in New York. In the midst of the festivities last weekend, Dart had the opportunity to link up with both Mannings.

Dart began his football career at USC but went on to play his final three years at Ole Miss. During his tenure there, he racked up over 10,000 passing yards and 72 touchdowns across 39 appearances.
Seeing that everyone he's been around has glowing takeaways of Dart, it might not be long before the Giants are handing him the reins at quarterback.

Eagles fans won't appreciate a former Cowboy's prediction about the top QB in the NFC East

ESPN analyst and former Cowboys star Marcus Spears says Jayden Daniels will be the best QB in the NFC East ahead of Jalen Hurts, Dak Prescott, and Russell Wilson. Some may not want to admit this, but while watching the Washington Commanders march through the most recent NFL season, something became obvious relatively early. The Philadelphia Eagles' rivals are on their way. They may not have elevated themselves to equal footing with the Birds yet, but there's a chance they'll cause a few issues. Seeing the Commanders catapult themselves into the NFC Championship Game offered a rude awakening. Washington's rise might be nearer than previously expected. Still, while most saw the postgame handshake between Jalen Hurts and Jayden Daniels as a congratulatory gesture, one of ESPN's finest thinks he saw a passing of the torch. Welcome to Marcus Spears' wild NFC East theory It wouldn't be sports talk without prognostication. It wouldn't be ESPN without controversy. Recently, the NFL Live crew found itself engaged in a conversation about the NFC East's quarterbacks. The names are familiar: Jalen Hurts, Dak Prescott, Jayden Daniels, and Russell Wilson. Former Cowboys star Marcus Spears shared an unexpected expectation about one of them. He expects Daniels to be the best offensive signal-caller in the division soon. Well, at least he didn't cast his vote for Dak Prescott, but something else is afoot here. Where does this refusal to give Jalen Hurts the proper respect come from? He wasn't mentioned at all in Spears' theory, but if we're talking about making plays 'off-script', few do so better than Hurts. Here's another nugget, or several. While every starting quarterback in the NFC East is interesting, albeit for different reasons, two have appeared in two Super Bowls. One of those two has been so unimpressive and inconsistent for so long that few can recall when he was still effective. You all can argue among yourselves about which guy we're discussing, but here's a hint. It's Russell Wilson. Spears and everyone else who loves Daniels aren't wrong about his potential. It's just seemingly off-base to promote him to the first chair in a division where one of the game's best reigns supreme. Daniels was phenomenal in his first year, but now he has to repeat that success. Let's see how he does in year two at the helm, and once we rule out the possibility of a sophomore jinx, then we can reassess.

Former UNC wide receiver praises Bill Belichick for his coaching style

This former UNC football player had some nice things to say about Chapel Bill. 2024 was another lost football season for the North Carolina Tar Heels, whom – despite clinching their sixth-consecutive trip to a bowl game – finished with their second losing record in four seasons. If you thought last year was bad for UNC, take a look at Florida State. The Seminoles started 2024 ranked, as they typically are, then proceeded to win just two games. North Carolina reloaded its roster this offseason under new head coach Bill Belichick, who brings eight Super Bowls and countless experience to Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels' greatest replacements come on defense, though, replacing their entire starting defensive line with the likes of Pryce Yates and Vilbert Smith. Gavin Blackwell, who played his first four collegiate seasons at UNC, had an opportunity to learn from Belichick for a few months. Now on FSU, Blackwell praised his former head coach, despite never suiting up for him. "He was great," Blackwell said. "Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about Coach (Bill) Belichick. He loves football. Everything you see online and stuff like that, I would kind of say the media portrays it a little bit differently than what it is inside the building. He loves his players, he loves his coaches and he's all about ball. He kind of brought more of an NFL aspect to college and that's kind of what they're running there. But himself, he's down-to-earth dude, not a big-headed guy. You can go up to him, have a conversation, talk ball with him. He loves that type of stuff and when you show that you're interested, he's gonna make sure he gives you that same respect and try to help you as much as he can. He's got eight Super Bowls. Great dude, wish them the best." Blackwell redshirted his first collegiate season in 2021, appearing in just one game, but emerged the following year with 239 receiving yards and his lone touchdown. Now on a Mike Norvell-led roster desperately searching for productive talent, Blackwell has a real chance to put up WR1 numbers. Giants Firing Coach Brian Daboll Could Be Up To Jaxson Dart Development

Giants Firing Coach Brian Daboll Could Be Up To Jaxson Dart Development originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Giants had a less-than-stellar season in 2024, finish dead last in the NFC East with a 3-14 record. As a result, head coach Brian Daboll is thought by many to be on the hot seat. Advertisement In a recent article by Gilberto Manzano, he lists some of the biggest winners and losers so far this offseason. For one of his winners, he has the Giants, who he thinks improved enough that Daboll could be in a position to prove the doubters wrong in 2025. "After failing to make it work with Daniel Jones, a quarterback Daboll inherited, this coaching staff will get to develop first-round selection Jaxson Dart, who will start training camp behind Russell Wilson," Manzano wrote. "If Dart shows flashes like Maye did last season with a bad team, that might be enough to keep Daboll around for another season." Or ... if he doesn't? That could determine whether Daboll moves from the hot seat to getting fired. Daboll was named the NFL Coach of the Year in first season with the team in 2022, where he led not the best Giants roster to the NFC Divisional round. They have not made it to the playoffs since then, but not all of it is necessarily Daboll's fault. Advertisement Daniel Jones clearly did not work out at quarterback, but Daboll was not responsible for drafting him. He is, however, responsible for helping draft Malik Nabers, who was one of the best wide receivers in the league in his rookie season. With all of the improvements the team has made around stars like Nabers and Dexter Lawrence II on the defensive side, Daboll will be looking to prove that he should not go anywhere.
